Where's Antonio?
One of our readers suggested we have a daily feature to locate the Mayor and note Villaraigosa sightings. This might be fun, so feel free to add to the list.We hear that tomorrow the Mayor will participate in a promotion of the DVD release of the feature film, Crash.
Later in the day, he will receive an honorary doctor of laws degree from Occidental College.

"Dr." Antonio will receive his honorary degree knowing that, like all the other accolades he receives, it's pointless, fleeting, and vain -- because an honorary degree is like the curved tail on the pig. It serves no useful purpose other than to tickle the pig (or the good "doctor") in its ass.
Maybe Mayor Sam can rival the "celebrity spotting" blog, "Gawker Stalker." Or is this another game of "Where's Waldo?"
I like that poster. Yesterday Antonio was at a education conference (hoped he learned something)threatening that if lauSD doesn't allow him to do audit he'll seek higher authority. What a crybaby!!!
Don't think he'll be out doors today. He hates the rain.

Doctor of laws degree from Occidental College?! I guess if you can't earn one, you can "shyster" yourself one from some unsuspecting fool, or foolish institution. Its seems fitting that Occidental should give Antonio an honorary degree, Occidental is about the only California college to miss the 60's. The only notable alumni is Jack Kemp - enough said. Occidental is a living example of the "elitist college poor townie" syndrome - desperately trying to keep poor Highland Park and Eagle Rock residents off thier property.
A 3rd rate honor from a 3rd college. How fitting.

Jack Kemp? I always thought that Oxy's most famous alumni was Terry Gilliam.

I am sure the honorary OXy degree is the work of Peter Dreier, one hard core AV follower, who l;ike many refuse to realize that AV is not the progressive they think he is. he did not run as a progressive, he did not win as a progressive, and he is not acting like a progressive in the Mayor's office. he is being run by business interests and no one can get near him if they are worth less than $1 mill. But peter drank the KoolAid. here's a quote from him in March 30 Times:
"He's staking his political future on solving a problem that a lot of mayors give up on," said Peter Dreier, a public policy professor at Occidental College and director of the school's Urban and Environmental Policy Program.
"There are a lot of easier roads on which to build a national political profile than to tackle homelessness and poverty in your backyard. I think it's a statement about his core values," the professor added.

Too Bad he didn't start any processes when he was Councilman in the same area as Jan Perry.
He's just doing this to rob tax payer funds to support his developer friends.
wow, Im always surprised by the venom on this site. By reading these postings Im not sure if our Mayor is a wild eyed, immigrant loving, MECHA-poverty and homeless obsessed Mayor or is he a tool of the rich developers?
I guess the honeymoon , at least on this blog, is over for the Mayor.
he should be judged on his results, as he will be. For me, taking on the schools, transportation issues, homeless and housing is a pretty good and ambitious start!
I do worry that he is an 'operator' and may be too 'ambitious' but lets give him a shot!

P.S. "Give him a shot?!" He's been at City Hall since 2003. How long are you willing to wait before he actually has to accomplish something? End of a second term as Mayor?

being council member is way different than mayor. The Mayors power still isnt too great-very little money in the budget! NYC is twice the population of LA, and more than 10 times the budget. Alot of big ticket items are handled, or mishandled, by the County Supes. Given the resources at his command, it will be very difficult to get things done. But AV is trying and trying to utilize the bully pulpit, and whatever other powers he may have.
Agree with 7:18. Mayoral power is diluted...much more so than NYC and Chicago. Things that a big city mayor, a governor or president do are big ideas and big policies. These things take time and the holders of those seats can't be fully judged until years after when the effect of their policies actually show. I think Walter should run for council first and give the big city government a try there. Tell us what you learn!
Funny I didn't know Oxy, as we Eagle Rockers like to call it, had a law school...This honorary degree will be as worthless as the one he received from The People's School of Law. How embarrassing for Tony, although he may be too ignorant to see it. LOL

We are so disgusted. So why don't we use him as a guinea pig and track his time in office, not let the media let him slide and hold his feet to the fire to truly represent his district and hold true to his promises.
