Mayor Sam's Hotsheet for Friday
In the fundraising sweepstakes for Thursday, Assembly Member Cindy Montanez bested Council Member Alex Padilla in donations for their 20th State Senate District race. Montanez brought in $8000, to Padilla's $3300. In the race for the Democratic nomination for the State Attorney General spot, it was a little tighter, but Jerry Brown pulled more dough than Rocky Delgadillo, $6600 to $4500.
The LA Fire Department's blog has an interesting story about some of the first female firefighters in Los Angeles. You might be surprised to learn that all female volunteer fire fighting crews were formed as far back as 1912!
Mayor Villaraigosa met Thursday with Mayors of the other cities in Los Angeles County that are served by the Los Angeles Unified School District. No doubt, the Mayor wants to get them on board for his plan totake over the District.
Blogger Clark Baker is running for the Republican nomination for the 42nd Assembly District. Baker writes the Ex-Liberal In Hollywood Blog, is a former Marine and police officer. Assuming Baker gets the nomination, he'll go up against either Mike Feuer or Abby Land on the Democratic side. Given the enormously left leaning nature of the 42nd, a Republican has no hope, but what the hell, give it a shot right? Baker seems like a worthy candidate. Too bad the LA County Republican party has flushed itself down the toilet.

10:00AM - Los Angeles City Council
2:00PM - Education & Neighborhoods Committee, Special Meeting

How much money do Alex and Cindy have cash on hand?
Anonymous said:
Mayor Sam,
Now you are only telling one side of the truth. Padilla has more cash on hand money and you've not indicated how much money both candidates have..

Yeah, what does it say when Antonio has to help out a candidate? Does anyone really think Jose would have won without Antonio? Hell No!!! Cindy is sleepy with a powerful politican and if she wins that's how she'll do it. Pretty sad in this day and age a woman still has to sleep her way to the top without having the brains.

Baker is a nut job-- He sent out an email saying he wanted to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for the campaign. Ha!

Republican candidates in the 42nd, Jim Alger....It looks like MayorSam has a thing for 2006 losers. That bodes well for Padilla.

Spent some time on Baker's blog. Besides being obsessed with the Democratic Party -- PRE-CIVIL WAR! -- he has nothing.
All I can tell is he's a man with a lot of time on his hands because of his public employee union pension who hate unions.
Oh, and I'm supposed to think he's a progressive republican because he sings with the Gay Men's Chorus. (Probably 1/4 of the chorus is straight, because frankly, who is there for straight men to sing with?)

Antonio wants control of the schools well now is a good time as any. The students are walking out today because of the illegal immigration bill. Let's see what HE does if anything goes wrong. Wonder if he'll be in front of the line at tomorrow's big march downtown. With the backlash on illegals and Antonio wanting to be governor what side do you think he'll stand with????

You guys are quick with all that Cindy love. Obviously you guys don't kow about the skeletons in her closet. Remember, at one time she was an Acevedo protege. James and Alex even got heer elected to the San Fernando city council. They know a thing or two about Cindy's illicit dealings. Parke has no clue. Just remember South Gate.

I doubt that. Cindy was always the vote of dissent on council. Acevedo was shown the exit sign long before she became a majority bloc.
If Acevedo the lackeys wanted her so bad and knew all this supposed 'illicit' stuff, they woulda hit her with it in 02. Nope.
Back to the 'cindy sleeps around' whisper campaigns. Do your research. Padilla has no clue what's coming.

In 2002 Alex and Tony and James were too full of themselves. Didn't James lose 5 elections that year? This year they won't make the same mistakes. Bring everything you got on Alex. Give him a reason to go balistic on Cindy. The public won't like what they are about to hear. And CIndy sure doesn't have the tough skin necessary to be a big time politician. How many contractsdid Pueblo Construction get while Cindy controlled that "voting bloc"?

Hey Anon 12:36 AM, if the Mayor endorses anyone he will endorse Cindy. The Mayor endorsed her in 2002 and a lot of Montanez staff were involved in the Villaraigosa campaign in 2005, and Cindy was of course one of early endorsers. Padilla jumped on the Villaraigosa train only a few weeks before the election Also Padilla's been critical of mayoral control (though he hasn't really given a straight yes or no answer, but waffled a bit). Third, since Padilla is no longer council President he can't use that pulpit to stymie the Mayor's proposals. The Mayor has little to fear from endorsing Cindy since Padilla is one vote (maybe two with Cardenas joining in) on the council and can't use a Presidency he no longer holds to threaten the Mayor.

Check the reports, Alex has commissioned like 10 polls. Is he nervous? Is that a reality check? A gut check?
Now they're polling if the mayor's endorsement has any sway.
Only checking on June 6 will be a chin-check.
Look for the dogs to be unleashed on Alex.
Cardenas is next.

Polling has nothing to do with nervousness. It has to do with strategizing, assurance, and what political scientists refer to as "the ongoing campaign," that elections and re-elections are not far from peoples' minds.

Delgadillo Rips Into Rival..LA Times
Dumb dumb Rocky. He's using the poor kid from East LA crap to get votes yet lives in a $1 million house. I hope Brown kidcks his butt.

Of course Antonio will endorse his little sweetheart Cindy. You think we're all dumb and don't know just how close they really are? Cindy's camp is talking wayyyyyy too much.

The joke was on me.
I just came across Sam Yorty online, and saw this site. After the Mary Poppins approach to delving in, I wanted to ask him to be on TPSradio.
Then I learned, well, sorry for your loss. WHO posts as Mayor Sam here, his kin, cohorts, or ?
PS On another subject (and the same one that brought my searcg to this cool blog - I guess U guys cover LB!) I am looking to connect with people from "other" LONG BEACHes (other than CaLi, there are 7 total) for local "audio" reports on TPSradio (CSULB & Cerritos College). If you can pass on the word.. Thanks!

How embarrassing the illegal immigration march was today in downtown LA. Almost 1 mil people attended and many of them waved flags from MEXICO. Then they wonder why we want them out. They threw rocks and bottles at officers trying to keep the peace. The students were radical especially the ones from MECHA ANTONIO'S PEOPLE. This is who we have as MAYOR. LA is doomed to become a second Tijuana.

What's embarassing is your pathetic lies. From CNN:
"Stunned police had only to sit and watch, as 500,000 protesters hit the streets of L.A. in what turned out to be a perfectly peaceful march Saturday. City police said there were no incidents or arrests."
You're probably one of those white folk whose biggest fear is Mexican grand children. You dread the day when Latinos run the show. Well guess what, it's already here. If you don't like it, try Idaho.

Mayor Sam,
Did you hear on KFWB this afternoon about Sergio Carrillo,
City Planning and Community Advocate for Councilmember Janice Hahn?
I can't remember whether he was fired or if he quit, but that he was involved in a car accident involving a city vehicle while under the influence. They also said that this wasn't his first time, having been charged of DUI twice before.
That's pretty interesting news for a weekend.

What makes you think that Cindy has to sleep with anyone to get somewhere?
When a woman is successful it is because she sleeps around, that is just stupid, clearly a jealous man wrote that!
She has done a great job for the community she represents and like it or not, that is what VOTERS remember.

Hey 2:41...shut the f@#% up. You are only trying to get people going and, well, you succeeded. Now, to respond...you are a dumbshit who was not there anyway. Baka yaro!
