Martin is a powerful and visionary leader for the Union. Although I'm not in lockstep with the Union philosophy, Martin is the best person to take over after Miguel. I think Charles Lester is behind all this stuff, since he was left behind in the appointment portion. Martin can weather this storm and come out stronger than before.
Go Martin... and the rest of you with your anti-views...shut the heck up and offer some solutions. Its easy to say what your against, yet so hard to say what your for.

Hey Joe Mama

Here's a solution...

let's elect people with integrity.

What am I for?...

cleaning up local politics, starting at the top - Villaraigosa, all the way down to Monica Garcia, the current school board candidate.

What solutions do you want offered - union dues were stolen and a felony was committed. Should Martin just get community service? And Martin can't weather this storm - it is the perfect storm. Wait until you find out who ratted Ludlow out. It's hilarious! But the funny part is that this is only the start of Hurricane season in L.A. politics. You thought New Orleans had it bad, wait and see what's coming for Antonio's Team.

Typical Tony Lovers/ Truth Haters. Blame it on Nick and it will be okay.

It's not Pacheco, he's too busy preparing that trigger finger. And somehow I get the feeling that this time it is not going to be okay. Has anyone heard from Maria Elena Durazo lately? Tell her the Feds are on the way.

Hey, it is a record. This is the longest period that Nick has gone without losing an election.

Pop the bubbley!

No, Nick is not blogging; it is his coterie of hangers on who contitute the Pacheco 12th CD Losers Blogging Team.

Their motto:

"We blog, we lose, so what? We keep on long enough, Nick will find an election he can win. The odds are with us right?"

(Besides, it is easier than walking precincts and actually doing the work)

Wow! All the Nick haters here trying to change the subject. Who gives a shit about Nick!!!

He's moved on and you losers keep living in the past.

So now that he's practicing law, more than I can say about the whole bunch of you losers, you guys can't handle it.

Marin Ludlow screwed up and you guys can't believe that one of the Mayor's "sons/brothers" has a problem.

Why do you guys attack Nick when he hasn't done a thing against Martin, anyway????

From what I've read here on this blog, it looks like Martin got f*cked by his own union buddies. His campaign workers ratted him out and he has no one to blame but himself.

The bigger question is who will Martin rat out to save his own ass? Who's next to fall?

If Martin accepts the plea offered to him I hope all you Nick haters have the balls to apologize to him publicly.

Nick is the only guy with balls in LA to stand up for what he believes. If you guys had his set you wouldn't be anonymously attacking him.

Has anyone ever thought that there might be Martin haters out there. He is a nice guy but an asshole to people.
He has issues that he can't get past. He's short, not that intellectual, insecure, arrogant for no reason and just a plain old ass.
Why do you think he has all those personal problems.

LMAO!

Serious, why the hell is the Pachueco cut-and-paste crew here? Shouldn't they have their little hands full with Monica Garcia?

On another note, Ludlow's personal life has nothing to do with this ongoing scandal. Every goddamn candidate uses some kind of crooked money, this is nothing new. Pachueco did, MAV did, Huizar, Jimmy Hahn, do I need to keep going?!!?!

I'm against breaking the law specially the FEDERAL LAW LIKE LUDLOW DID. I'm for integrity, honesty, character all of which is hard to find with any politican in LA.

They wouldn't be here if the lame ones wouldn't attack Nick for no good reason.

Nick lost his election but the way these people attack him you would think he was the sitting Mayor.

Every politician has friends and when you attack someone their friends will defend them.

Seriously, why are people attacking Nick for Martin's problems?? Why are people attacking Nick, right now, for anything???

BTW, I got the pun with Monica Garcia... "hands full". LMAO

Of all these only Nick and Hahn were investigated - guess what, nothing. Let's see if Antonio and Huizar can stand up to this test. They haven't been investigated yet but Ludlow is about to rat them out.

Now are Nick and Hahn just cleaner or are they just smarter.

LOS ANGELES -- Los Angeles County Federation of Labor head Martin Ludlow resigned his post Tuesday in the wake of an investigation into alleged fund-raising improprieties surrounding his 2003 City Council race.

Ludlow said he was cooperating with investigators.

The union's executive board will meet Thursday to discuss nominees to replace Ludlow as executive secretary-treasurer.

Told you guys he said he was going to cooperate. Let's see what AV does in the next few weeks.

The Times mentions that this illegal activity came to light after computers were stolen from Ludlow's campaign office. Again, what amateurs. Any campaign operative with some experience knows that information is the most important asset in a campaign. As such, you protect that information first and foremost. Only an arrogant son of a bitch would think that he is so loved that there is absolutely no threat to personal or campaign property. Besides plausible deniability, I guess Martin has never heard of a laptop, portable drive, thumb drive, etc.,. What a moron. I wonder who stole these computers, I wonder...

Referring to Nick Pacheco. I don't think you know your history very well. Think back, only one person ever beat a Miguel Contreras County Fed backed candidate - and that was Nick Pacheco. Nick kicked their ass in 1999 - and is kicking their ass again in 2006. You guys should have left Nick in office. He is much more dangerous as a private attorney, just ask Ludlow. And now he's partnered with the devil incarnate himself, Ricardo Torres. Be very, very afraid Antonio. The pecking order is becoming clearer, who do you think is next. For ultimate effect, Torres will make Antonio sweat it out a while.

6:17 PM-

That arrogant son of a bitch was none other than Miguel Contreras. Shallman and Burnside were the official campaign directors, but those who worked on it know that all the shots were being called from that office on James Wood Blvd.

He's not turned out how to be the person we voted for. Who gives him advice now? Who does he take orders from, cause he ain't making his own decisions that's for sure.

Let's start all over again.

Just coming in from that victory party. Boy, there were some old faces in that crowd. The consensus at the gathering is that Martin's fuck up is just the tip of the iceberg. Pretty ironic that this will eventually end up at the door step of the consensus builder himself, Antonio.

Word is that Ludlow is starting to talk and drop names. One of the names he dropped is none other than Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa's own godson, Aldo Palma. The Times refers to this rat out:

"Sources said the assistant has provided a list of names allegedly submitted by Ludlow to be placed on the union payroll."

Why would the Mayor's own godson be on that list? How far does this go?

February 22, 2006 3:32 AM

Anonymous Anonymous said:

Well, the list has to include John Shallman. How could he be running Ludlow's campaign and not know where all of those extra campaign workers were coming from? Shallman is an obvious target.

February 22, 2006 9:48 AM

Anonymous Anonymous said:

This morning the LA Times tells us that Ludlow approached Local 99 and asked them to hire people at the union who instead worked on his campaign.

They go on to say that at least four of the phantom union workers are cooperating with prosecutors, telling them of Ludlow's role.

Does anybody know the names of these phantom employees that turned on Martin?

I'm sure they won't have much of a future in labor anymore.

Did Antonio's godson rat out Martin? Rumors are circulating in labor circles that Antonio's godson caved in during the DA/Fed interrogation. This despite the fact that he never worked on Ludlow's campaign, but somehow ended up on the list. The godson is the son of longtime labor party animal, Marco Palma, who supposedly threatened a sitting board member from SEIU Local 99. The board member was evidently inquiring about some payments being made when Marco responded, "It's best if you don't ask too many questions." Although this sounds like right out of the movies, it is right out of the DA investion report.

What is the relationship with Antonio and Marco Palma?

The previous poster thinks John Shallman is a target of the feds probe since he ran Martin's campaign. I wonder if that's true. His brother is a U.S. Attorney here in Los Angeles, Dan Shallman.

I do find it hard to believe that if Martin was directing this illegal activity, the campaign manager didn't know about it. Campaign managers usually know EVERYTHING that the candidate is doing, especially when it comes to money and resources.

Still, it seems like a very small amount of money to go after Martin. I'm sure they have somebody else in their crosshairs.

Look past Shallman. Others are included in this. How many folks from labor worked on Martin's campaign?
Look at Martin's staff and their histories. Get smart people, get smart.
Stop sucking the County Feds dick and Martin's and look at other players.
Martin is obviously taking a fall for AV. AV for President? White folks in the U.S. ain't voting for no hispanic with AV's background as long as there are illegals taking jobs from Americans. Martin is really on something here folks.
But that's probably AV's plan. He may run for President after he runs for Gov. Martin gave everyone a warning. Heed it.

February 22, 2006 3:29 PM

Shallman wasn't the campaign manager, he was the media consultant handling TV and mail. It's not likely he would have known about this stuff. Moreover, as someone who has worked on a campaign with Shallman, he would have been the first guy to tell them to knock it off if he smelled any monkey business. He's got a ton of integrity and, in addition to his brother being a U.S. Attorney, his other client is none other than DA Steve Cooley.

The real problem probably occurred right inside SEIU 99 and didn't involve the campaign staff.

February 22, 2006 5:41 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said:

5:41 is right. Shallman was the media consultant. The campaign manager and deputy campaign manager were two other folks.

February 22, 2006 6:03 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said:

City Council campaigns don't have media consultants. They have general consultants who are responsible for everything that happends in the campaign. Campaign mangers are administrators who take their orders from the consultant. That would have been Shallman.

February 22, 2006 6:11 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said:

In this case it's irrelevant who was taking orders from who. I've worked with Shallman also. Like the other guy (or girl) said, he's tougher than shit but he would NEVER come close to anything like this and probably would have shut it down or walked away if he knew something illegal was happening on a campaign he was working on.

If anything, ML was probably careful to keep this stuff away from anyone who would shut it down--like Shallman or his campaign treasurer Stephen Kaufman. Both of these guys are boy scouts.

But enough about this, I'm curious what dish ML has about AV that's getting people nervous?

12:01 on 2/22/06: Marco Palma worked on Martin's campaign (on the labor piece) and then was hired in Martin's administration. He was in the District Office. Martin's campaign was a who's who in labor field ops. Think about it.

11:19 on 2/22/06: You're right, but there were others.

Shallman was a consultant but don't think things did not get run by him. Shallman is a stand up guy but in politics, everyone is stand up until they are caught. After ML's computers were stolen, access was limited to the upstairs offices in the HQ and Martin did a lot work from home.

Martin is the tip of the iceberg. You know damn well all his enemies are dropping dimes all over the place to the feds. How stupid can you be to lose a powerful position because you're so damn greedy and couldn't scrape of $53,000 from your rich friends? Trust me, guilt by association and AV is next. You know he, Maria Elena and others knew exactly what was going on. They were desperate for that power.
