Just Say NO

The Daily News headline says it all...

LAUSD rejects Meruelo's Glassell Park offer

While we certainly have not been fans of the LAUSD, this is a decision I can get behind. Granted this decision may have just been made out of spite to screw Mayor Villaraigosa's supporters due to the Mayor's ongoing war with LAUSD, but the net result is positive, even if accidental.

The LAUSD will now negotiate to purchase 23 acres of the Meruelo property to build a 2,300-student high school. The school is scheduled to open in 2010.

Now we get a chance to see Mr. Meruelo's true colors. Does the mighty dollar mean more than the kids? Can Villaraigosa influence him to do what is right, and right the wrong Meruelo originally committed when he swiped the land out from under the LAUSD to begin with? Only time will tell. We'll keep our eyes peeled

Peel away. Murelo already "bought" AV's silence on this one, to the tune of big bucks IEs last Spring.

It's "sin of Omission" (look that up in your RC catechism, Mayor "pay-me-to-stay-at-bay" AV), vs. one of COmmission. The former, Ethics can't touch you on.

"I did nothing! (Even when I SHOULD have).

MAYBE we need a "good Samaritan" law on the books for politicians. If your FAIL to do what you SHOULD do, to benefit a campaign donor, then we can nail you, too.

The Mayor will try to reason with Meruelo when, and only when Riordan tells him to. Does Antonio's entire staff of Riordan throw-aways count? Sure, because if they don't tell him what Riordan would do, how will Antonio know what to do?

I guess Murelo will be hiring Gritzner now and the Sonnenschein law firm.

Better torch another warehouse Murelo -- you're going to need the the insurance money for legal expenses.

Where's Huizar in all of this. It's amazing how big money makes big pussies out of some formerly courageous leaders. Now we know why Tony the Liar wants to take over LAUSD.

Huizar is busy hiring new staff members "from the community" (ha!) - and making sure that his own mediocre term-and-1/8 legacy on LAUSD isn't in ANY danger of being overshadowed by his successor... by endorsing someone even more clueless than he was.

This is how AV-style politics by narcissists ensures declining results ("make sure the person that comes AFTER me is capable of doing even less than I did").

Gritzner is now for hire. Im sure he will get what he needs, for his client, to the detriment of the kids. I wouldnt be surprised if they hired him and Sragow on this matter, they are the ones after all that brought the billions in bonds to the district on behalf of Romer. Maybe Romer will bend over a couple of times if Gritzner instructs him to as payback for being a whipping boy for so long.

He will be just as effective today as he was being Romer's advisor-savvy enough to get by and look clean but not really caring about communities or families. Always blaming someone else...
