Brown vs Delgadillo

While Delgadillo is off rubbing up against Villaraigosa in a veiled attempt to steal some of his political teflon, his main opponent for AG is being prominately featured on the cover of this week's City Beat.

Steve Appleford's cover story, Uncommon Law, is a great refresher for those of you not up to speed on Brown's recent activities.

Happy Reading.

This guy re-invents himself so regularly that he probably doesn't even know who the Hell he is.

Those of us who remember Governor Moonbean know who he is, though.

He is an amoral, asexual wonk, who believes it is his right to tinker with people's lives on an experimental basis.

He has never been a practicing lawyer for any length of time, and his election as Attorney General would be a cruel joke on the People of California. He probably has no idea where the courthouse is located.

Were it not for his great father, Pat Brown, Jerry Brown would never have been elected to anything.

He was a disaster as Governor, and he will be a disaster as Attorney General.

If the people elect him, they deserve what they will get; nothing but chaos in this state for eight long years.

Hell, we've barely recovered from the hole he left us in when he was Governor, why would we ever want him as Attorney General?

ABB - Anybody but Brown.

Funny the two guys running have not practiced law for any length of time.

The cruel joke is on the people of LA who have to deal with Rocky's lack of code enforcement against slumlords. As the LA Times has shown, Rocky is morally bankrupt and spends more time handing out work to law firms who contribute to him than spending time protecting the people of this great city.

I think it's fair to say anybody but Rocky or Jerry Brown.

Why all the hate for Jerry Brown? Sure he's quirky, sure his management style is based on discord among his advisors, but you can't argue about the guy's vision. As governor he tried to move the state into a position where it lead the world in developing non-oil based energy solutions...he envisioned a day when California's defense contractor base of engineers was using its considerable collective brainpower to develop new ways to squeeze energy out of wind and solar sources, and that this new technology was driving the California economy. For as much criticism as he took then, the state and country would be in a far different, and arguably better position, had we heeded his call for change. Today, he's putting that same non-traditional approach to problem solving on issues of crime and local empowerment. Before you criticize the guy look into his ideas for requiring curfews on paroled felons and its impacts on shootings in the city of Oakland. Guys like Jerry Brown make California better, whether he practices law or not.

Good point last poster. Plus, our current AG, Bill Lockyer, has almost no experience practicing as a lawyer.

Anonymous number one is a liar. Jerry Brown did practice law -- for seven years. Instead of toiling in the courts for his entire life, he used his skills in politics, where he authored a political reform act that aimed to rinse the slimy Rockys out of politics. There's still a long way to go, obviously...

I guess keeping California schools among the tops in America while Governor doesn't count.

First off - I like all the posts by the CA staffers fucking off on a Friday.

Next off, whoever wins the Dem primary in this one wins the election. This not 1978 or 1982 California where Republicans can yell Rose Bird and Jerry loses. Its a different world.

Given that, I go with Jerry. Here's a guy who know what crime on the streets is all about and has done an excellent job as Mayor, look at all the leftists who hate him.

And he won't start running for something five minutes after he wins.

Jerry a commie? Please! If you want to use name-calling scare tactics, Terrorists are the new communists. Only a Republican could have such a low intellect as to call someone a "commie" in 2005.

Anyhow...
A rumor gaining steam among those in the know says that Rockard will drop out soon. His campaign's inner circle has already burned out and lost faith
and there are more damaging scandals in the pipeline that will make Slumlord-gate look like an unpaid parking ticket.

These bad vibrations will make it even harder to find fools willing to shell out $5k apiece. On the other hand, if Rocky pulls out and keeps his money in the bank for a few years, he can try to slip in at a later date and hope that everyone has forgotten that he's a legless slithering reptile. (On a separate note, Rocky's major Northern California endorser – San Jose Mayor Ron Gonzalez – has just been censured by the city council for his role in a case of corrupt contracting. Birds of a feather…)

It's one thing to put your money on an unknown horse, but when the jockeys are leaping off his back like fleas, his hooves are splintering and his nose
is choked with the fetid mucous of corruption, a wise player puts her money on a horse with integrity.

With Rocky out of the picture, Brown is going up against a cookie-cutter anti-choice Republican who is in bed with Arnold and some very powerful
special interests. Whoever said "anybody but Brown" obviously doesn't know much about Pooch.

I like Brown. He's a rare and honest politician who has remained engaged in the business of government. In these times, we need some wisdom in our body politic. If elected AG, I don't think he'll let us down.

Amoral, asexual wonk? Hardly. I've met the man and he struck me as very masculine and strongly guided by a sense of right and wrong.

Rocky will beat Jerry. Jerry is a has been, had his chance, needs to try to stay out of the limelight and let California be led by a guy with more integrity than Jerry can ever muster. This crap about not slamming "slum-lords" is so politically tainted that it's ridiculous to think that the intelligentsia of Los Angeles and CA would fall for that crap. Using that one is getting old pretty quickly. It sounds like another Northern Californian afraid of what a Southern Californian (a Latino one) has to offer. Hell, let's try to keep all the Latino's in So. Cal right....this political machine has got to stop somewhere right.....wrong. Wait and see.

Stop being so reasonable. Remember the thread above this one is discussing this blog being on some registered Republican blog or something like that, so of course you'll have the occasional anti-environmentalist person who will judge guys like Brown on style rather than substance. Sad because he has great substance but perhaps bad style. I'm too young to remember or relate to those old fashioned environmental haters.

I like the idea mentioned in the early thread saying that although this is in that Republican "blog club", most of the people who post here are liberal to moderate Democrats, although I'd venture to guess it's probably 70% Dem to 30% Rep.

I used to work in the City Attorney's office. It blows my mind that you or anyone else with any sort of knowledge about what kind of person Rocky is could still support him. I've seen the man in action, and he is not fit for his current position as LA City Attorney, much less Attorney General.

Brown is a bit of a nut, but he won't do everything exclusively on the basis of quid pro quo and he has more morality in his little pinky than Rocky does in his entire body.

Rocky is all about the expensive suit, the self-importance, the slicked-back hair, and the bullshit smile. No way should this man be given any more power than he already has. Let him go back to O'Melveny with the other assholes he used to work with.

LA Times exposed Rocky's donations from the slumlords. He's tainted. Brown is too damn liberal. Pretty sad if this is all CA has to offer. I want to know what law firm has the ex-CIA agent investigating Rocky right now and who is behind it. People say Chick.

Delgadillo staffers, from the community reps. to the actual neighborhood prosecutors, have been actually more useful in addressing quality of life issues in my council district. (CD 7). They've accomplished or resolved more issues than the staff of our council president. Say what you say, that say's a lot.

Strong staff goes a long way and reflects good on the elected official. Rocky has my vote on that one.

Just to add to your Rocky "Latino" line. While at Harvard, he went out of his way to inform the Chicano organization there - their name was RAZA - that he wasn't Mexican and that they should take him off their mailing list. The fool did this in writing.

I wonder if any Chicanos from Harvard - '77 - '81 - have this letter.
