Braude v Murley

In yesterday's LA Times, there was an article entitled "He fought City Hall's Planners; Now he is One." The story is about Gordon Murley's appointment to the South Valley Regional Planning Commission. Here's the fun tidbit I thought I would share...
But former Councilman Marvin Braude, who appointed Murley to a task force studying traffic congestion on Ventura Boulevard in 1987, frequently fought Murley. He said he did not think the job would be a good fit.

"He's a kvetch and a nuisance," Braude said.

"He doesn't have the temperament for dealing with people in a reasonable fashion. I think it's a poor appointment. He's a very aggressive activist and it's easy for people in power to be impressed by somebody like him."
My guess is that his appointment had more to do with this endorsement than his way with people...

Unbelievable that Gordon "Surly" Murley got appointed. He's a self proclaimed expert on EVERYTHING.

Neighborhood NIMBY activists should not be appointed to planning bodies, but instead should be strangled with their own genitalia.

Par for the course with MAV. Commisioners have not been chosen based on their skill and ability to do the business of government. Give it a little more time and the cracks will show as they fall on their faces (as many who actually watch the proprietary departments know is already happening).

All three of you are full of it. Gordon Murley is without a doubt, the BEST thing that can happen to South Valley Area Planning Commission.

NIMBY activists are the only thing that can keep the corrupt planning department from doing what EVER they want in Council districts.

People who shouldn't be appointed to planning commissions? Relatives and friends of the developers or developers who donate money to get what they want.

The North Valley APC should be so lucky to have even one activist. Or even one commissioner who was pro open space or followed the community plan without getting favors.

You should carefully listen to Gordon's words and you'll see what he really DOES know.

If it were up to NIMBYs, we wouldn't build a freakin' fence in this City, let alone more housing, commercial or retail. LA would still be farmland.

I really love Gordon's take on fewer street lights and more green ones to keep traffic moving. There's only one minor problem with his approach - LA'S BUSY STREETS CROSS EACH OTHER, so you have to eventually stop so that other people can get where they're going too.
