Stein Time Has Come To An End
Some time ago, we reported that Ellen Stein would be out from her cushy spot on the city's Board of Public Works. Insiders had expected Stein - the wife of connected attorney Ted Stein - to slide off before the end of 2004.
With the landslide loss of James Hahn, without comment or reason, three days later Stein has resigned from the board.
Maybe Cynthia Ruiz - who was allegedly dumped from the board by Mayor Hahn for being a Villaraigosa supporter - might get to come back. The ironic thing is that Ruiz was dumped to have Hahn replace her with longtime Councilman Tony Cardenas aide Yolanda Fuentes - which at the time was thought to be a quid pro quo bone thrown to Cardenas.
Didn't work, Cardenas eventually endorsed Villaraigosa.

I have heard that the treatment some of them received from Natalie Reyes and her incompetent staff was so unbelievable , some of them actually voted for Antonio.

Overkill on Hahn? To be honest with all of you, it's overkill on both sides.
All the Hahnistas who just can't seem to let go that Villaraigosa won still continue to trash talk him, when really, nobody cares anymore. Say what you please about the Florida donors, but it's hard to say something about one incident when your guy has a portfolio full of them. All the b.s. talk dragging in his staff is pointless, because he won and nobody cares about the gossip that we all know is untrue. Get over it and move on with your lives.
And for the Villaraigosistas, it's a great time to celebrate, and you should take this weekend to do so. But now the true work begins and it's time to stop all the Hahn-hating and move towards uniting a city that desparately needs it. Talking about the flaws that Hahn has or what he did in his administration is pointless because now your guy runs the city. Use this opportunity to outreach to those who didn't support Villaraigosa so that you can build a movement of progressive ideas in L.A. that will serve as a model for the rest of the big cities in the U.S.
Look, I know that there are going to be some adults on both sides who are a bunch of big kids and can't get the fact that as adults, we need to lead by example and show what type of mature individuals that we are (at least that I hope we are).
L.A. is just too damn important to spend our time on this fucken blog shit talking. Check your egos at the door everybody, we have work to do.
Ellen has been a wonderful commissioner and sweet person; Angelenos owe her a debt of gratitude. Even her husband Ted, people in the know say he can be very arrogant and confrontational, but not a crook. He has rubbed many people the wrong way over the years and they are paying him back by perpetuating innuendos and perceived wrongdoings. If not already, he will be exonerated.

Hey Nacho, its unbelievable how you ADV lovers crucified Hahn for the last year. You said every and any dirty thing you could. Plus this website helped you guys out a lot. Now that Antonio is the Mayor everyone is suppose to all of a sudden be nice to him. Bullshit! Antonio better get thick skinned and tone down that temper cause this is nothing compared to what he's in for being a Latino mayor.

Leave Ellen alone. She is a lovely lady who did her job well. Her only blindspot was her husband. She deserves credit for her loyaly and caring of her husband, regardless of his abusive, arrogang and offensive behavior towards most.
If she were not married to Ted, she would still be a commissioner. How disapointing that she would be mesmerized by Ted Stein.........who has cost the City millions of dollars by his mascinations and by his awful behavior in running major departments of the City like a monopoly game.
Ted Stein is making a deal; he will be indicted, but get off light. He will be turning someone, but who could it be?

Yeah, damn straight I criticized Hahn for the last few months, just like you probably did to Villaraigosa. And you want to know why that is??? Because it's a fucken election!!! You go and try to sell your candidate as best as you can, and point out the flaws that their opponent/s have so that your candidate can come out on top. That's the bottom line, and that's why EVERYBODY on this blog did it, including you and I.
Now, the election is over and Villaraigosa is beginning the heavy task of structuring his administration that has 6 weeks to get ready to take over. Go ahead and make statements of what he is doing now and how he is dealing with situation. 3 years from now when he starts to get ready for his re-election campaign, if he hasn't come through with his words, you can count on me being there to throw stones at him with you.
But for people to be bringing up false accusations that have nothing to do with his office, are without merit, or what needs to be done here in L.A. at this point is really pointless and without justification. I say that not only to you, but all the other bloggers, regardless of what side you were on.
If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem. If there was something that Hahn did that worked, bring it up in here for others to read about its effectiveness. If there was something that took place under his watch that wasn't worth the time to promote it, bring it up in here. I'm sure that your traffic problems, environmental concerns, and worries regarding public safety deserve that level of attention.

Most of the greatest leaders in the world were somehow fatally flawed. That is the human condition, we are all fatally flawed.
General PAtton Suffered with manic-depression. Abraham Lincoln suffered with MAjor Depression. Einstein was very slow in areas such as not coming in out of the rain. And of course he was flawed enough to help in the development of the atomic bomb- e=mc squared.
Now from what I have read Antonio Villaraigosa has had back surgery , knows what it is like to be paralyzed , has had throat surgery . ANd from what I have read in the papers suffers from Chronic Pain. THe Chronic pain is probably a remindeer everyday of his mortality and also probably reminds him he is still human. I suffered from Chronic pain , you better beleive I had a problem with moods. But look at him , he has made it , he is the Mayor.
We need to jump on the bandwagon , continue to hold his feet to the fire , like all other politicians and let our greivances be made known. Leadership in my book translates into service , if this COmmunity of Los ANgeles isn't served , well , then we can throw stones like someone else has said on this board.
I disagree with both of you. Let's face it Villaraigosa was an incompetent councilman. He missed more city council meetings than any other and didn't have any SINGLE accomplishment to campaign on but things from 4 years ago. I have a problem with that. If he couldn't take care of his own district he can't run a city.
Antonio was protected by the media. Many reporters stated their editors didn't let them print what they wanted about his personal baggage. A lot of people have said those John Kerry e-mails telling them to vote for Antonio helped and the corrupt Southwest Voter Project that was suppose to be non partisan also.
Villaraigosa carries a lot of baggage from all the special interests who gave so generously in expectation the favor would be returned. He kept saying he wanted to clean city hall and he starts off with the same scandal.
Victorious Villar is starting out with payback play. Nicko Patsarous is getting top "advisor" billing. This despite his previous open hatred of rail transit and his push for more and more buses. The 266,000 people a day who ride Metro rail and 41,000 a day who ride Metrolink prove him wrong, again. Besides, Nicko is a developer/lobbyist trying to get his projects approved at the MTA -- now he's got Villar to push them for him.
Republican for AV, did you see Channel 11 today, that show hosted by Tony Valdez. Who was on there as a surrogate for Tony - Richard Alatorre. What a tangle web we weave when first we practice to deceive. Tony may want to be clean - and I sincerely believe that -but when you make deals with as many devils as Tony has sooner or later you're going to get burned - just like Hahn. Watch the slime ooze from the wood work as all those corrupt hacks that will claim they, and only they, were responsible for Tony's victory take turns cashing in their chips.

The person who announced him as much as SAID he was going to run for mayor this year -- at that point he had been on council only 11 months.
ADV talked there about how universal healthcare was a "right" - tell that to your GOP friends, fraud.
(The scroll also called him "Antonia," pretty funny that) and it's the ONLY thing this person with "national presence" shows up on on CSPAN archives.
NO slack... the countdown started two years ago, not on July 1.

Hertzberg, who has become a leading voice for reforming the city's public schools could play a key role in any effort by Villaraigosa to increase the mayor's involvement in the public schools.
S. David Freeman, the colorful former general manager of the Department of Water and Power, has been a longtime Villaraigosa supporter and advisor on environmental issues.
Richard Alatorre, who represented Villaraigosa's 14th City Council District from 1985 until 1999 and who pleaded guilty in 2001 to failing to declare income from people seeking his influence, said he would continue to offer advice to Villaraigosa when asked.
But Villaraigosa remains close to many local labor leaders, including Maria Elena Durazo, widow of the late head of the county Federation of Labor, Miguel Contreras. Durazo heads Unite Here Local 11, which represents hotel workers engaged in protracted negotiations with downtown hotels.

TV today did a story on Cristobal Aguilar, Californio alcalde from 1870s. Seems one of the complaints against him was he ran away from an anti-Chinese riot in downtown and did nothing. 12 were killed.

Finally! The Mayor and his incompetent staff will soon vacate the mayor's suite. I simply can't imagine anybody worse and more inept than Shannon Murphy and Julie Wong. Even if the mayor was doing anything, his press operation was too lame to get the message out. Shannon's interactions with reporters was laughable and completly embarassing. So much so that they were often forced to call her "boss" Julie and complain about her. Just about anyone that Antonio hires has got to be more capable than those two lame-brains.
Tim McOsker is a decent, but naive guy. Unfortunately, he didn't (or couldn't) protect the mayor from some really sleazy people. Worse, he hired several of them and had others appointed to key commissions. And, he let Doug Dowie tell Troy Edwards what to do--and how to do it--until the mayor's office became a pathetic puppet show. Dowie influenced a lot of key decisions in that office including putting Shannon Murphy in as communications director. Shannon was/is Doug's protegee and he was/is her mentor. Now they are both unemployed. And, together they brought down the entire Hahn administration (with just a tiny bit of help from sleazebag Troy). How about that?
I'm going to help Antonio out with some sound advice. If he wants to work on crime, education and health all he has to do is go after the illegals in this city. Over 1/4 of criminals in jail are illegals, a public policy study done just last week stated that in the US over 21% of kids going to schools are illegal, and all the hospitals that have been closed down and suffered BILLIONS is because of the illegals.

Everyone knows that Southwest Voter Registration was helping Antonio up to the last minute. All those new voter registrations they got and phone calls and outreach. They were suppose to be non partisan. I'm sure you all know also that they had people going into precints to vote for registered voters who didn't show up. Hey, we all know but it doesn't matter. Antonio better show this city in the first couple of months he can do the job or they'll be all over him.

Getting back to the topic...
Congratulations to Mrs. Stein. Your retirement is well deserved with many years of dedication and service to LA. Maybe Cynthia Ruiz will return, maybe she has other plans. Ms. Fuentes entered unguarded territory and has done a terrific job in such a short time, in spite of not knowing the why's of her appointment. Is it possible she stays along with Cynthia Ruiz? Will we see Huggy Bear Hertzberg at the Board of Public Works? What a pleasant addition that would be. Do we say good riddance to Janice Wood? After all, she was the reason Hahn removed Ms. Ruiz. Interesting though how that decision, way back when, might have had an impact on his and her own destiny. Good bye Hahn and his supporters. A big welcome to the new appointees of Mayor Villaraigosa. May your assignment be reflective of all dedicated employees in the City of Angels.
Mayor appointees like Mike Hernandez who was busted by a video camera buying cocaine during lunch time and getting prostitutes. Richard Alatorre who also had a cocaine problem and was caught taking money he shouldn't have. Alvin Parra another El Sereno crook who ruined his wife's position all documented in LA Times. Paul Hernandez (aka Urkel) who is an arrogant moron who acts as if he always wants to be anywhere else except doing his job. Lisa Sarno (aka Cabbage Patch) another ruthless field staffer who hated working with the community. Dora Garcia (aka. Dora the Explorer) a wannabe field staffer. Wouldn't know how to answer a simple question if her life depended on it. Jimmy Blackman (aka Samari) how he got his job is everyone's guess. He should take lessons from Parks Jr. who is respected and an all around nice guy.
