Former Mayor Riordan endorses Kevin James in 2013 Mayoral Contest

Former Mayor Richard Riordan endorses Kevin James.
Kevin James is now top choice of the former Mayor,

Former two term LA Mayor Richard Riordan has endorsed Kevin James in a big coup for his surging campaign.
The endorsement, following on the heals of the "A Better Way" IE PAC first TV ad, well-positions James to solidify his republican/ conservative base ahead of March Elections.
Your thoughts ..............

This is a major development. Riordan may be registered Republican, but he's barely a RINO. He is tied into the city establishment, he was the city establishment, but he also has a bit of a maverick streak and must be sick of how messed up the city is.

The last time LA was in good shape was during Riordan's term. I hope Kevin looks at emulating (and improving on) some of Riordan's programs such as The LA Business Team and the LA Neighborhood Initiative.

Also, a LOT of Democrats supported Riordan when he ran such as Richard Alatorre and others. Riordan was running against an unmitigated disaster in the form of Mike Woo; Wendy Greuel would be even worse.

This is bad news for Wendy. Behind the scenes work to line up the Riordan endorsement didn't happen with CCA. You know who likely pissed someone off.

Expect Jim Hahn to make a late endorsement for Jan.

Antonio won't endorse Wendy as his people are scared Kevin might actually leapfrog her to the runoff. He doesn't want one final stain on his legacy.

I may be out of touch, but I think Richard Riordan endorsing Kevin James is a game-changer. Forget that it's a Rebulican endorsing a Republican.

To old people, Riordan is still a "Siskle & Ebert" thumbs up; and old people vote, in much larger percentages.

Folks don't equate Riordan as "Republican," just Mayor they liked in good times and they think he's Mr. Smart/Successful Billionaire.

So, yeah HUGE for Kev.

And mostly, BAD for Wendy Greuel.
Wendy and Richard are former partners in Wetherly Captial shadiness, in the same getaway car.

DAMN, did he dump his hoe to the curve. Glad I don't live in Wendy's neighborhood. She must be running around screaming loud enough to register on the richter scale.

OMG...it's ZUMA DOGG!! Where has HE been? We LOVE Zuma!

He's right! Riordan is about as close as it comes to a Reagan for the LA homeowner types that Wendy needs. If James people can get out mailers with Riordan and Kevin smiling it turns old people to Kevin. BAD BAD BAD for Wendy!!!

WE LOVE YOU ZUMA DOGG!

Question: If Riordans endorsement is so valuable, why does he wait until 20 DAYS before the election to give it to James?
Why not three months ago?
Why not six months ago?

Answer: He saw Wendy pulling away with her TV ads.
He obviously doesn't want her to win.
This endorsement seems less than genuine.
Not knocking James, I just think this City is far too corrupt for a legitimate candidate to win. You have to be a member of the gang.
Perry, Garcetti, and Greuel and got jumped into the gang long ago.....

WOW! Riordan`s endorsement may stop Liar Hypocrite Greuel, and D`Arcy fully taking over City Hall. Great week for D`Arcy`s lap dog. LA Weekly roasted her. Riordan forked her.

Phil, why did Riordan wait till, now.

a) Mail-in ballots out NOW. Endorse 6 or 3 months ago, forgotten/not in media TODAY, when ballots are out.

b) Richard has been allies with City Hall for a LONG TIME. Not so easy to buck trend, in this way. Had pension reform gotten on ballot, maybe he would've supported City Hall candidate, since that wouldn't have been an issue, but is RIORDAN/DOGG's #1 issue.

c) Maybe he is SICKENED by what he is seeing, too...and can't take it, anymore...and FINALLY can't shut up and has to say something.

d) With Presidential election, what a WASTE the endorsement would have been/buried. No one ready to THINK about another election, till about, now.

e) Forget reality. It's about perception. I agree, James would get BURIED as mayor, run back to Oklahoma. But WHO CARES? Just keep Garcetti/Greuel from gettin in there. Falling apart under Kevin is better than orchestrated corruption under the others.

f) Phil, you are a nice guy, but seem envious. And the fact is RIORDAN DID ENDORSE JAMES and that means a lot to DUMB, ignorant morons who don't realized Riordan is the BIGGEST FUCKING PROBLEM this city has ever known. HE CREATED THE PROBLEM he now WHINES about, with his CORRUPT WETHERLY CAPITAL GANG.

But, again, it's about the collective conciousness, which is unconcious.

The city needs Zuma Dogg. Wish he didn't retire. of course is correct about Riordan endorsement. Where does Phil get this stuff? Can't believe Phil is supporting Wendy. He must hate gays that much. Are Joe B and Valley Doll supporting Greuel too?

For the record, I am not supporting Wendy Greuel.
Most likely I will vote for Kevin James, even though I'm not with him 100% on a lot of things. But he seems to be the least destructive choice.

Greuel, Garcetti and Perry will all bend over backwards to reward the unions and won't cut any departments. They are all equally worthless!!

I just think Greuel is doing a better job of reaching out for the labor/union support. But it doesn't mean she would do a good job as Mayor. In fact, I highly doubt she would.

February 16, 2013 11:13 AM February 16, 2013 12:41 PM: Thanks for those comments. Yeah, it'd be nice if I could be doing more things; but the People voted - and discarded ZD=can't operate/function on empty & on foot. I do what I can, online. But, not happy folks don't hit the ball I'm puttin' on the tee, with RT's/re-posts. So, it's just a spectator sport of a guy in a kayak, instead of rowing team. Nice seeing, y'all.

Phil is definitely jealous of Kevin. Kevin graduated law school and Phil didn't. Kevin has a career in the media and Phil doesn't. kevin is running a genuine outsider campaign and Phil wants to move to Orange County thinking that he will do better there than he did here.

Phil is going to change his vote at least 4x between now and the election so he can say that he picked the winner.

Did I wake up in a new world?
Riordan is the establishment man?
Really, which unions does he have?

Lets be honest, unions select our elected officials. Sometimes they are split between candidates, like the race for Mayor. But they always select our elected officials.

So, I somewhat agree with Phil. If Riordan was genuine he would have been behind James long ago and worked to bring him some major special interest support.

James will not win leap from Wendy.

The May runoff will be Wendy and Eric.

And when that happens, it will be Wendy as Mayor because the Valley is not going for Eric.

The voters should give Dennis Zine a big "F you" and vote for Jeff Bornstein for controller. He ran against ZIne twice before and I know that Zine really HATES BOrnstein. Let's piss off Zine!

Riordan's endorsement of Kevin James probably indirectly helps Zine some. A few more Republican voters that don't always vote in local elections and don't know that Zine has become a liberal will probably vote for him.
