It was not a big surprise that LAUSD board president Monica Garcia did not show up to the LAUSD District 2 Candidate Forum on October 17, 2012. It was a stupid move on her part.
She only showed how much of a coward she is. The six candidates there were all opposed to the proliferation of charter schools, they were all for parent empowerment, more funding for public education, and believe that the Mayor's Partnership for Roosevelt High School should end. I guess since Monica has $174,000 so far, that she can cruise to victory--she has the money--but remember Luis Sanchez had the money too...and lost. A big question that I have is who of the six candidates will UTLA endorse? Three UTLA officers were at the forum.Being Latino/a does not mean anything to UTLA, even if District 2 is a majority Latino district--Look what happened to in the District 5 board race, Bennett Kayser got in after UTLA president Duffy demonized UTLA's endorsed Latino candidates. That's how Monica got in the first place. Don't be surprised if UTLA endores a non-Latino/a candidate. The educational needs of Latino/a students are not the priority-it's what is in the best interest of UTLA.
