Saying "Hmmmm" About Englander
When it came to CD12 candidate Brad Smith, the only one who had some money, some name ID (both from his community work and perhaps the ability to benefit from folks who may mistake Smith for current incumbent Greig Smith, or, perhaps as Smith's son) and some mojo dropping out of the race, we said "Hmmmm."
We may have had good reason.
Street Hassle is reporting that Smith may have based his decision to drop out following alleged pressure from Englander and his campaign consultants against Brad Smith's employer, Parsons Engineering.
Read more at Street Hassle but the bottom line reportedly is that Parsons, who has a significant business in getting government contracts, was told that it would be a "very good idea" for Parsons if Smith dropped out of the race.
Stay tuned.

I might believe that if anyone could explain to me a way that Smith could win.

Mistaken ballot identity: Greig Smith, Brad Smith.

This should be a criminal investigation. This is a very serious charge.

Now another name to compare Jose Huizar with. For the past 4 weeks or so, Councilman Huizar's practices have been compared to those of Robert Rizzo of Bell fame.
Now,in tonight's L.A. Times, (online), Douglas L. Semark, director of the Gang Alternatives Program, compares Huizar with another disgraced politician, Richard M. Nixon.
The article, written by David Zahniser, is headlined, "Huizar staff graded civic leaders on their clout and support for him."
Robert Rizzo and Richard Nixon! This must be some record. Anymore shoes to drop, Jose?

This sounds right up Englander's alley. Will it be investigated, or will he get away with it?

6:57 makes a good point.
But the observation from 9:37 is correct too.
Mitch is an experienced and accomplished political operative. This is definitely something up his alley.
However, as dirty as it may be, the only question is what he and his campaign did illegal?
Parsons told Smith it's the campaign or your job and you can do both. Right?
It's not like they said Smith keep running and you lose your job.
It sounds like Mitch and his team walked a tight rope of saying if the guy is not on leave and running it raises questions of a conflict of interest.
Still, really Mitch? You really needed to put pressure on the guy?
What are you inside poll numbers saying? Sounds like some internal figures were hinting of a possible run off and you got rattled.
The top dog stomping on the throat of a little dog is not a sign of a confidence.
I can just imagine what it will be like dealing with CLOWNcilman Englander. If you publicly disagree with him, get ready for the autocratic sleaze.

He should fit in well with Gatto if you are correct.

Sen. John McCain lost a bitter campaign against Barack Obama in 2008 and has been at loggerheads with him for much of Obama's first two years in office. But the Arizona Republican this weekend called Obama a "patriot" intent on using his presidency to "advance our country's cause" and rejected accusations -- many coming from members of his own party and the tea party movement -- "that his policies and beliefs make him unworthy to lead America."
McCain made his comments in an article he wrote for The Washington Post opinion page, posted on Saturday, in which he praised Obama for giving a "terrific speech" in Tucson at a tribute for victims of the shooting rampage that took place there a week ago.

Words of wisdom for the new Mayor Sam Religious Blog
Matthew 7:1-29
“Judge not, that you be not judged. For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you. Why do you see the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when there is the log in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye.

Higby,
Speaking of "manning up," Red Spot says he acted righteously when the Gatto controversy sprung up.
But your boy Red Spot refused to post my comment that said he DIDN'T "man up" and own his DISHONESTY garbage he posted about Gatto.
The only time you two fools took responsibility is when you saw the threat of a law suit.
That's not "manning up"
That's not "taking ownership"
It's bullshit that you guys are trying to revise history, when it's all laid out in the Times, Daily News and Weekly.
Tell Red Spot to stop trying to sell that you guys acted responsibly. You only respond to the threat of a lawsuit. Plus, you never apologized for posting FALSE information about the alleged "eviction" of Gatto from a building in which he never lived.
Very weenie of you guys.

Everyone should help putting out the word that Mitch Englander will be just another crook in City Hall. The fact he even had someone call Brad Smith's employer is enough to have many seeing RED. Englander has little man syndrome and has a huge ego. Even though he has over $400,000 he can be beat. Chris Essel had $4 million and the grass root efforts WON. The grass roots effort has already begun in little Mitch's district.

7:10am...
You're right. Essel got beat when she had a lot of cash.
And Englander can be beat.
The difference bet. this race and any other is the fact that there is no electable opponent.
Have you seen the list?
Kerkorian was a sitting ASSembly member, with a wide base.
No candidate in CD12 has a wide base. Not even Mitch.
Mitch will win in March. But with his 4 years the residents of CD12 will see that Mitch is #1 for himself, #2 for himself, #3 for the special interests that pay him, #4 for himself, and then he will and should have a tough re-election race.
Only if someone with credibility and a track record of success, and let me hold my breathe, is actually from CD12 runs.

The big problem Mitch has is that while many people fear him, not many people respect him. Eventually that leads to getting thrown under th proverbial bus.

This is exactly something Englander would do, and has done in the past.
This accusation should be investigated as it cuts to the heart of our electoral process. If found to be true, serious consequences are in order.
Englander has a large ego, but it is made of glass. He can't take criticism without it being a major personal affront to himself. Then he over-reacts like a child and this kind of stupidity is the result.
I'm not saying he did it. But to those of us who know and work with him, it wouldn't surprise me one bit.

The Grassroots effort won over Essel? Are you suffering from some sort of political mental illness?
Krekorian and his team portrayed Essel as the big money candidate while the Service Employee Unions and other unions spent 64,570.00 on his campaign and other special interests spent 31,000. He raised and spent about 600,000 and ended up getting about 11,000 votes. Just who do you think is supporting him now? Service Employee Unions, Lobbyist and others protecting their investment.

You missed the point. Chris Essel had $4million and she lost. Meg Whitman outspent Brown with millions and still lost. All it will take is bad publicity and its already happening. People of this city are tired of the corruption going on in city hall and politicians. The fact little Mitch is already lying about his real job is a red flag to all. The fact he's endorsed by all the crooks in city hall is another red flag. Englander is already getting bad publicity in local papers about registering not his real job in city hall but calling himself a police officer failing to say he's just a volunteer. The next debate will someone ask him why isn't he a real cop? Did he fail the polygraph, psych etc.
Anonymous said:
The point is one million spent on a camapaign is not grassroots. Essel spent one and a half million not four. The difference was about 2500 votes. Two carpet bagging connected political forces desended on CD2 and one won and won lost. In the end the people really lost. Those making a conscious decision to look the other way have lost their right to critize the corrupt system now in place. You have sold out and for so very little and so soon.

The argument over whether a reserve police officer is a real job or not is risky. No candidate should pursue that.
They wear the same badge, the same uniform, and are in danger just like every police officer.
Paid police officers do not treat them differently.
A good way to lose votes is to attack any police unit.
Is he a policeman? Yes. Is he a paid full time policeman? No. But does that matter?
The focus should be on whether he put pressure on Parsons, his connections to special interests, and what his plans are. Not his job title on the ballot, when it states Policeman, and he has the backing of a lot of LAPD officers in CD12.
Anonymous said:
Do you think Smith's committee assignments have anything to do with LAPD's silence? Individual officers take issue with Englander's blatant use of the LAPD to help himself get elected.
He deceives the voters by not mentioning his real, paid job and instead insinuates he is a full time police officer. This kind of deceit is what CD12 has to look forward to.

YOU PEOPLE KEEP SELLING MITCH AND HIS WIN. DID "MEG WHITMAN BEAT JERRY BROWN"? QUIT TALKING OR USING MONEY AS A AUTOMATIC WIN FOR CANDIDATES. BRAD SMITH SUNK $50,000 OF HIS OWN MONEY INTO HIS CAMPAIGN ANYONE CAN PUMP THEMSELVES UP THAT WAY. FOCUS ON OTHER CANDIDATES ARMINEH CHELEBIAN IS ONE WHO COULD WIN IF SOMEONE IN THE PRESS WOULD GIVE HER THE CHANCE. PEOPLE LIKE YOU HAVE THIS SHEEP BELIEF YOU KEEP BELIEVING THE WRONG PEOPLE. NO WONDER THIS CITY'S IN A MESS.

You are wrong Trojan. Go look at the City Clerk's website and read about ballot designations. It clearly says that you write down the job that pays you the majority of your paycheck.
Englander gets the majority of his paycheck from Greig Smith. What he did is wrong and you can't deny that. Nobody is saying that he isn't a cop but they are saying that he does it once a month for a weekend and he gets paid by the councilman for the MAJORITY of his paycheck.
Anonymous said:
1:06: Actually...the City Clerk's website says.
"Candidates for office, other than the incumbent, may have printed on the not more ballot their principal professions, vocations, or occupations in not more than three words".
