Los Angeles Politics Hotsheet for Thursday
Rizzo by the Sea |
UPDATE; Yep, he's gone!
We've got tree sitters in LA County! Protesters are branch camping in an effort to stop the removal of 179 coastal oaks and 70 sycamores by the LA Department of Public Works. LADPW claims they need to make way for debris being dredged from a nearby reservoir. Hang in there tree sitters, I'm on my way!
The DREAM ACT is back! Well, at least a California version of it anyways. The CALIFORNIA DREAM ACT has been introduced by Assemblymember Gill Cedillo. This version can't put the children of undocumented immigrants on a path to citizenship but it will allow them to receive educational assistance.
"While the state-based legislation does not confer any immigration benefits, the proposed law would grant qualifying undocumented college students access to institutional financial aid from the University of California, California State University, and Community Colleges. It is a small step that the state can take while we wait for the country to emerge from the dark ages and get on with immigration reform".-change.org
A stunning figure; 1 million homes in the U.S. were repossessed by banks in 2010. Brace yourself, even more are expected to be foreclosed on in 2011. 1 in every 17 households in Arizona had a foreclosure filing in 2010. 1 in every 18 for the Sunshine State.
"Foreclosures are expected to remain elevated through the year as homeowners contend with stubbornly high unemployment, tougher credit standards for refinancing and falling home values. Sharga said he expects prices to dip another 5 percent nationally before finally bottoming out. The decline will push more borrowers underwater on their mortgages. Already, about one in five homeowners with a mortgage owe more than their home is worth." -Fox News
While Fox News employee Sarah Palin was busy yesterday crying victim and offending Jews, President Obama had the opportunity to deliver some very welcome news to the crowd gathered for a memorial at a Tucson sports arena;
And finally, some ducks in Tujunga need your help;
Once again, the army corps of engineers is cleaning the Haines Canyon Debris Basin. There are currently 9 domestic (flightless) ducks in need of a rescue, hopefully before coyote predation strikes. We need as many volunteers as possible as the area is vast.
If you can help, please be at the basin 11:00 am, Sunday, January 16th. The address is 10529 Haines Canyon Avenue, Tujunga, CA 91042. If you have questions, please contact me @ moonstruckduck@aol.com.
Also, we are interested in finding a good home for these ducks,. Ducks are great treasures for a yard. Please let me know if you can help in this way as well.
Thank you in advance for your help.

Joe,
Thank you for a well-written, if biased, Hot Sheet.
Red Spot decided to ban my comments pointing out his horrendous grammatical problems, like using non-existent words like "ENGREGIOUS," "EDUACTION," and "PRAY FRO THEM."
I guess Red Spot loves to mock and dish out the punishment, but when it comes to giving unbiased commentary on him, HE is the one who is the crybaby.
"Engregiously" yours,

Joe B.,
If animals in need are important to Sunland-Tujuneans, how come your have a state of the art animal shelter that is used for storage rather than providing key community service?
It was supposed to open years ago, and Richard Alarcon never fought to get it open. To his credit, Alarcon did lobby to keep it from being shuttered. But instead of being used for storage, it was supposed to be open to the public for adoptions, spay & neuter services, etc. That never happened.
What if anything are you or your activist friends doing about that?

Retired LAUSD,
"if biased"? Don't you mean "although biased"? "if biased" implies that you don't know whether my post is biased or not. My post is obviously biased, as all posts are here on MS. There is no "if", there is only "is".
Unknown said:
12:42, I have no idea what you are talking about. We are in CD2. That is Krekorian's district, not Alarcons'. Alarcon just lives here.

Palin could have said DOG and the left would have attacked.
The left loves her so much she gets attacked for everything.
Turns out Jared Lee is a left winger more than a right winger, but still crazy.
But before even having all of the facts what did the left do? It's the tea party, it's the republicans, it's Palin.
So let me get this straight, Joe, vitriolic and divisive political dialogue created Jared Lee, but it was a result of the right, and not the left who look for every opp. to talk out of their ass?
The NYT and the Daily Beast had two really good editorials on how BAD the media was on saturday. And by media they named MSNBC, Crappingtong Post (better known as Huffington Post) and Daily Klowns & Socialists (better known as Daily KOS).

Steve Lopez drove all the way to Huntington Beach to harass Rizzo for his goofy, self-serving column. What an a-hole.

Obama Orders Military To Prepare For Spring Food Riots
By: Sorcha Faal, and as reported to her Western Subscribers
A grim report prepared by France’s General Directorate for External Security (DGSE) obtained by Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) states that president’s Obama and Sarkozy have “agreed in principal” to create a joint US-European military force to deal exclusively with a Global uprising expected this spring as our World runs out of food.
According to this report, Sarkozy, as head of the G-20 group of developed Nations, called for and received an emergency meeting with Obama this past Monday at the White House wherein he warned his American counterpart that the shock rise in food prices occurring due to an unprecedented series of disasters was threatening the stability of the entire World and could lead to the outbreak of Total Global War.

Can't wait to see what he comes up with for Glendale and Burbank..

Right on that one, AV has been all over her to stop her from releasing any of the CLARTS fund break downs.
Lots of money going to the pockets of Huizar and AV's friends for doing nothing.

Wendy has no back bone, if Rudy's people yell at her lound enough she will break.
If that means stabbing AV and Huizar in the back, she will do it in a heart beat.

Let's be honest, if you had gotten the tip about Rizzo parking cars in Huntington Beach, you would have run there barefooted to get the pic and story.

Ha- just saw this Rizzo pic on the nightly news. And yes, they asked him not to come back. Plus not wanting his kind of publicity, guess what he did. He was supposed to be watching the parking lot to make sure only museum goers were parking there, not shoppers. But he let a guy give him $15. for parking in the free lot and go shopping! In his behalf, he did turn it over to the museum, but they didn't seem too appreciative.
