Sunday Hotsheet
CD4 candidate Stephen Box gaining at least some online stickiness (beyond that which he generates on his own through hyper-blogging and hyper-tweeting). LA Weekly picks up the meme started by Paul Hatfield that Box is a master at social networking and maintaining an online presence. While he is certainly decades ahead of incumbent Tom LeBong and fellow challenger Tomas O'Grady, the test of Box will be can he turn that energy into good old fashioned get out the vote elbow grease. We shall see.
If you enjoy shopping at the Hollywood Farmers' Market today might have been the last day the popular produce exchange is allowed to operate. Blogging.la reports that the Market's street closure permits are up for renewal. The LA Film School which operates on the same street has requested that the street not be closed on Sundays going forward and access to the school's parking lot be made available creating a conundrum for the folks at the City who have to make these decisions.
LAObserved notes that public agencies are making use of the Internet to bypass the dinosaur media to get their stories out. Now, besides just publishing press releases agencies such as the LA County Sheriff's Department are putting up their own public information websites with formats and content much resembling traditional news sites. Of course the City of LA Fire Department's Brian Humphrey has been ahead of the curve with this for years being one of the first to publish a blog and was a Twitter early adopter.
Another Villaraigosa media opp; this time at the LA Auto Show he promises the industry LA homes will be ready for charging electric cars in the next seven days. Watch your wallet!
A clearly worried Jose Huizar campaign began a very early slime attack on challenger Rudy Martinez, who is gaining support faster that Villaraigosa is taking photos, but the Martinez campaign had a clever comeback: quote Huizar's own past praise for Martinez before then clearly refuting the Huizar-Trujillo spin.

It's probably already too late, but he has GOT to lose the goatee, the hat and the "look-at-me" attire if he wants people to take him seriously.

I just looked at O'Grady's website. If it's Box vs. O'Grady vs. LaBonge. . . my money's on LaBonge. Ugh. That's a prediction, not an endorsement.

Excellent point at 1:28pm, Walter.
This is the problem with rough, unpolished canidates. They don't have the common sense to be CLEAN SHAVEN and without the dopey hat, either.
It's the same reason that ALL of the also-rans of the recent few election cycles couldn't win if they COMBINED their votes.

Walter needs to wipe that racist smirk off his face if he ever wants anyone to take him seriously. I mean just look at this clown.

Uh I don't think so.

Walter has a point but then again this is LA and everything is upside down these days.
There is a new picture of Box out there where he loses all but the billy goat beard. He looks more like the typical LA guy there almost.
I still think in most of his pics Box looks like Malcolm Merriweather, the British butler on The Andy Griffith Show.

Every time I see Stephen Box, I suddenly think I'm looking at a character from "Braveheart".
And I agree with 3:42, Walter needs to have that racist smirk knocked off his face.

Jennerjahn is saying on his Facebook page that he thinks all the comments about him on Mayor Sam are posted by Mary and Joe B.

Box might be the nicest guy and the best candidate, but he must have about zero common sense.
He needs women voters and I don't know any who wouldn't be totally creeped out by that facial hair which should only be seen on a scraggly animal out in the wild. How gross!
And Walter, I love you, but that is not the most complimentary photo. Maybe time for an update?

Seriously! You're reading, regularly reading Phil's Facebook page? I think this fits into the "get a life" category.

I would love for Box to come and eat the foliage off our city hillsides- otherwise he'd better lose the billy goat beard, come on, those of you/us who hate Walter Moore for any number of reasons - still have to agree!

THe problem Box will have in CD4 is he has a lot of people who know him well and have had negative interactions. Box is perceived as a "one type issue" biking. I think its unfortunate more grass root candidates didn't jump in. A lot of people were banking on Jack Humpherville. He already had strong support but politics as ugly and nasty as they are he backed off. We have a lot of great people in our city however, the negative, mean spirited stuff that probably would have attacked their families and friends made them realize it wasn't worth it.

A great grass root candidate is David Barron in CD6. The Mexican Mafia thug Cardenas is crying because he says there's crime in his area but the #'s say differently. Everyone in CD6 knows this Cardenas is nothing more then a thug in a suit. He's uneducated, has issues with women, anger management and is an arrogant little shit. He named a rec center after his parents just because his mom gave birth to 11 kids. I hope David whips his butt. He's done nothing for the legal residents in his area but like other Latino politicians supports gangsters and illegals. HE needs to GO!@!

in media....""But none of the issues identified in Cardenas' motions are new, said one critic of the effort."He's not addressing something new, he's not addressing something old, he's addressing this at a time of elections," said Edwin Ramirez, a Pacoima community activist.Cardenas, who has been in office since 2003, is up for re-election next year.

I regret admitting this but I have to agree with Walter's comments. Mr. Box is certainly qualified and will not be a union patsy like Tom but the goatee needs to go. To be taken seriously in politics you need to be a bit conformist in appearance. After all the bottom line is to get elected, they grow the goatee.
