This is the city: Los Angeles, California. I work here. I'm an ex-mayor. Los Angeles is a magnet for people from all over the world. Some of them run for public office. Inevitably some of them stray from the golden rule and rule for those that have the gold. That's when I go to work. My name is Yorty. I'm a dead pol.

7:50= Tomas O'Grady

Off to a bad start for O'Grady. This is NOT the type of thing that needs addressed at this time. This isn't arts and crafts class. He sounds like a really sissy over this. Who else is running. This guy ain't it.

Tomas, we are not trying to show how city hall is broken. We are trying to fix it. We already know. And it ain't a dumb ribbon on a sign to exploit a situation that is going to do it. What's next...bringing apple pies to baseball games?

Rather than bitching about it Stephen Box, Phil Jennerjahn, the Gatto squad, the stay at home bloggers, et al should have joined in and made the point that LeBong is really bad for this District.
Instead Phil was wandering around the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, Box was dressed as Malcolm Merriweather signing election papers and I guess the rest were all commenting on Mayor Sam.
So far it appears only O'Grady is doing what it takes to run an actual campaign. I reached out to Stephen Box MONTHS ago to 1) talk to me for a Mayor Sam interview and 2) as someone who has been active in the North Hollywood area take a tour of our area, see the concerns we have Tom LaBonge is ignoring and meet the folks who could help him. Crickets. I've heard nothing about this either from Phil Jennerjahn.
Quite frankly I'm tired of candidates who feel they have some sort of entitlement to these offices based on whatever they've done in the community or what people are boosting them. Yet their egos are so huge they're unwilling to do what it takes to win.
Box, my good friend Phil Jennerjahn, et al appear to be headed down the Walter Moore/Zuma Dogg road. Have a nice time losing.
As an actual CD4 voter I'm leaning towards O'Grady. Which I know probably means months of crap from the Gatto/LeBongs/Box people.
Michael Higby said:
O'Grady one thing you better get ready for and I am sure you am is you will have a three pronged dum dum attack squad going against you.
1-Gatto Truthers who have to do whatever it takes (whatever it takes) to keep Tom LeBong in office four more years
2-The Griffith Park Angry NC people/Stephen Box Crowd who see you as a real possibility
3-Phil Jennerjahn who will call you a dangerous enemy of freedom and make fun of you for being Irish yet having a Spanish first name.
One thing for sure however is it's going to make the Mayor Sam furry wackos really confused to see JoeB, PhilJ, Gatto Truthers and stay at home bloggers all lined up against you.
Cheers,
MH

What is your opinion on Bitter Jerry's choice for a post election vacation?

Wow Michael, your support of O'Grady just because 'he knows how to run a campaign' (orchestrated by John Thomas) simply to mess with people you don't like is fairly shocking. You've never gone quite this far, usually taking the high road.
OK, so support O'Grady. Enjoy the next for years of an anger management problem who screams and throws temper tantrums when he doesn't get his way. Who misappropriates neighborhood council funds, and probably - PROBABLY - is still working with Mauceri to control community conversation for NBC/Universal.
That is what the astroturfing of the GGPNC was all about.
Enjoy the "doh" moment when it hits.
Enjoy those extra 70,000+ people with their cars moving into CD 4 with you, too.

I'm all for NBC Universal. And I live in the area. We need the jobs and business. I've traveled all over (literally every inch of the 101 and 5) California and I see places like OC, Santa Clarita, Silicon Valley, etc. prospering. LA is becoming a third world cesspool ringed by crybaby NIMBYs in the hills and the rebranded hoods etc who will soon be hard pressed to pay the bill.
I haven't 100% decided on O'Grady but I have decided against LaBonge, Box and Phil J (sorry Phil).
I do expect any grassroots candidate I support to show me the money. Show me you plan to actually do a campaign and not be a Walter Moore/Zuma Dogg candidate.
O'Grady seems poised to do that. Box and Jennerjahn do not. Maybe I will see otherwise.
I hear rumours my friend Frank Sheftel is thinking of running; if he does jump in I will talk to him about it and might support him.
So my reasons for supporting O'Grady have less to do with who is opposing him and more to do with what he has to offer and the fact the other choices are not choices.
I'm just saying to the O'Grady people watch out. Any race is ugly. This one is going to get really ugly. And he will have the Wonder Triplets and their ugly making team against him so its going to be painful.
And that's not even counting the sideliners like the Trujillos et al who will line up behind Tom and do their usual reindeer games.

HIGBY,
WHEN THE FUCK ARE YOU GOING TO DO SOME WRITING ABOUT PHIL'S CAMPAIGN PAPERS STATING THAT HE IS A "POLITICAL CONSULTANT"?
WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO PUT IN SOME EFFORT ON THIS LIKE YOU GUYS DID ON THE GATTO THING?
PUT PHIL'S PHEET TO THE PHIRE AND HOLD HIM ACCOUNTABLE FOR THIS BULLSHIT CLAIM, AND THE FACT THAT HE ALREADY ADMITTED THAT HE HAS NEVER LIVED OUTSIDE OF CD5!
Anonymous said:
Jesus Christ, Higby, all of your pussyfooting "my good friend...phil or frank" makes you seem like a guy who has had their penises in your mouth at one time or other.
Seriously, man up and grow a pair.

Higby,
To be quite honest, I actually respect Tomas O'Grady. I think he showed a lot of hustle in winning his Griffith Park Neighborhood Council election and I think he will be a factor in this election.
He is tied into the community and seems to have a lot of supporters. That doesn't mean he will win, but he should do well.
I just didn't like him seizing on Veterans Day for political purposes. I thought it was tacky.
Maybe he'll show better ideas during the campaign.

How much of a fight LaBonge puts up against OGrady will be very telling.

Phil,
On what SUCCESSES of yours should anyone give creedance to your politic prognostications?
After the LAST PLACE Mayor's election, you whined at the city council podium that you need to "rethink my priorities." Just like the little pussy you are.
Then you quite YOUR OWN recall city hall campaign.
Then you came in last place AGAIN, in the three person Congressional race.
Why should anyone give a fuck about who you think will and won't make an impact in the elections in the Spring?
Isn't it time for you to fly back to D.C. to take more photos of yourself in a shortsleeve shirt in front of the icey/snowy Capitol building?
You sir, are a moron.

Higby:
Your desire to see a plan for winning from the CD4 challengers is a reasonable one, but quite honestly if O'Grady doesn't have one right now -- a plan to recruit the volunteers he needs and to raise the money he needs -- it's too late.
Your disappointment that some of the candidates didn't take you up on your offer to tour North Hollywood with them is a bit arrogant. It could well be that you aren't the best one or the only one that the candidates should spend their time with. How about organizing a tour for the candidates that includes others from the community?
The goal should be to ensure that the candidates are well informed about the area, not that your ego be fed.

If Tomas cares about Veterans he should have spoken up when Prop 1C money was being spent on Eli Broad's Grand Avenue Park. That money was for housing for Veterans.
Veterans want housing. Not to see a ribbon on the Hollywood sign. Are you kidding me? This sounds like the perfect Higby candidate.

7:50am, Someone FINALLY showing how broken city hall is? I guess he is the first. And it's a lousy way to start the campaign. I was hoping for something serious and relevant. He took a stand to kick off his campaign and this was it. I'm sorry. No way.

He looks like Fred Armisen of SNL. Is this a sketch or for real?

Unlike a lot of community activists I don't care about ego. I don't live to be at meetings, get my name in the paper or be a "go to" person who runs their fiefdom as a dangerous enemy of freedom.
That being said I had intended to get Stephen Box and others together with folks from the chamber, neighborhood council, etc. and blog the crap out of it. Would have been great publicity.
Our community is currently completely ignored by the LaBonge, we have to go next door to Krekorian to ever get any help and all LaBonge does is come to chamber events, talk about how he met his current wife and shove folks around (literally physically from what I heard last week).
If Box wants to continue that tradition he will be in for an Eddie Murphy surprise.
Anonymous said:
No one lives to be at meetings. But it's where you have to go to address the issue for real.
Anonymous said:
Whats wrong if an activist gets their name in the paper?
Isn't the problem that the papers don't cover activism but are press release machines for city hall?
If someone is fighting for an issue and awareness is a goal, then that is a good thing, I thought?
Anything else to complain about to prove how you are Mr. Perfect and everyone else is doing everything for all the wrong reasons? You are turning into Walter Moore.

If anyone saw Councilmemebr Ed Reyes fake blog site (doubt anyone did or will), he has a phony photo of him being at a veterans day event but he was not really there. It just looks like he was at one when he wasn't.
Shame on him!!
