Los Angeles Politics Hotsheet for Thursday
"El Payaso"
Paul Hatfield of the Village to Village Blog is reporting that longtime Studio City Neighborhood Council board member Michael McCue was removed from the panel Wednesday evening on an 8-4 vote. Despite the vote Hatfield reports that the majority of the audience in attendance supported and spoke out for McCue, much to the displeasure of some of the Studio City board members. Hatfield promises more details later Thursday. Mayor Sam readers may remember that McCue was one of several candidates who originally ran for the Second Council District seat vacated by Wendy Greuel.
A group of several medical marijuana collectives facing closure under an ordinance passed by the City Council are banding together to sue the City over the law. The Times reports that one of the dispensaries in the coalition attempted to place a referendum on the ballot to overturn the law but failed to garner enough signatures. So much for the idea that pot shops can get signatures as easy as a hash brownie!
Ok here's a random fact that I never knew. San Francisco Mayor and Janice Hahn's opponent for Lt Governor Gavin Newsom is the nephew of legendary actor Ed Asner. I am sure some of you smart people knew this but I didn't. Who knew?
Here is my LAist/Zach Behrens impression: Los Angeles City government may not illicit the high tech imagery of Silicon Valley but if City Council President Eric Garcetti has his way that may change. The 13th District Councilman announced he is releasing "Garcetti 311" a free iPhone app that allows city residents to snap and submit photos of potholes, dead animals and illegal dumping to City employees to be addressed and resolved. But the app right now is only for residents of Garcetti's District however if the year long test goes well it could be expanded citywide. Okay, LAist impression over.

Michael McCue will not go down without a fight! Sounds like Lisa Sarkin is next up on the BBQ grill!

That's a lot of BBQ.

Phil apparently doesn't speak Spanish, or else he'd know that the KMEX story on the recall is not all that good for his "effort," yet he's promoting it on his blog.
That's the saddest part of Phil. He's gleeful that there is a story where his face is on the screen in that STUPID cowboy hat, but the story has plenty of people who do not agree with im.
And that dopey cowboy hat makes Phil look like a gringo ranchero.

villarigosa is trying to slash trutanich's budget by 36%.
why aren't you writing about this?

I'M GLEEFUL THAT VILLARAIGOSA ACCORDING TO THE ARTICLE IS SLASHING THE CULTURAL AFFAIRS DEPARTMENT!!! WHAT A FUCKING WASTE OF MONEY ON SOMETHING SO COMPLETELY NON CRITICAL.
ONLY A FUCKING MORON LIKE TOM LA BONGE CARES ABOUT THAT CRAP.

The Cultural Affairs Department is not POINTLESS and a WASTE of MONEY. It is that department that helps bring us many cultural events around LA and also helps keep many Cultural Arts Programs alive for the students of LA. I think that we could possibly merge that department, but it is a crucial department for our great city.

Sean, it may be a good department, but it is not a CRITICAL department.
Too much money in this city is squandered and stolen in the name of "the children." That's why dirtbag TONY CARDENAS lost his gang oversight position to our dopey mayor.
Cultural Affairs is a nice thing when there is money. We are so far in the red, that it's no longer a nicety we can afford.
Sorry you disagree, but that's how I see it, and I don't think either of us is alone in our respective thoughts.
There is PLENTY of fat to cut from the city in hard times, and areas that are not essential should be sliced in half and merged. I don't think the Dept needs to go away, but it needs to be properly downsized, and not commensurate with cuts in public safety areas.

A friend at KCAL's newsroom in Studio City says that Phil is pestering the hell out of them to try to do a story about a small town boy trying to fight city hall.
When asked about WHAT he has accomplished in this area, all he can say is that he "launched" the recall, but can't show any game plan or leadership on it.
Phil still doesn't realize that Channel 2 and Channel 9 are the same company, the same everything!
Oh christ, this is getting good! I didn't expect it to get so good so soon!

Cultural Affairs is something for a private non profit to do, not a government, especially during a severe double dip recession.
It's the PARENTS job to parent their children, and to expose them to the culture. It's not the government's job.
This is just another example of the liberal nanny state. You can waste my money on flimsy things like police, fire and similar things, but don't waste it on wasteful babysitting of kids.

Any word on why Michael McCue was removed from the board?

I'm rejecting a lot of stupid comments from you know who but I think its a few others too. Any chance we can get some good comments and perhaps on some of the other issues? Would love to see more debate on cultural affairs!

LA used to have a much more active and vibrant Cultural Affairs Dept. I , for one, miss it.
They produced/participated in a variety of events and festivals. Went to a lot of events at the Spring Street Theatre. Don't know what happened to it since it went to a nonprofit.
Cultural Affairs is vital to a socially healthy city. You can tell how much a city cares about its population by the cultural things it supports. Much smaller cities do a lot more than LA does. LA is a disgrace. To cut their budget even more is worse than a slap in the face. Why don't they cut the consultant fees they keep laying out for who knows what. What do we get from those?
p.s. you guys are just jealous. Phil looks adorably cute in that cowboy hat.

Phil is now posting multiple comments from himself at his blog using made up names! He's lost his mind!

Why would you expect Phil to have a game plan for the recall when he didn't have a plan for the Mayor's race?
He's running around in a world that he clearly doesn't understand.

The 3 stooges (Moore, Hernandez, and Jennerjahn) now have less than 400 estimated signatures based on campaign leaks. The need to get over 2000 per day to meet their goal. This means they are at least 5600 signatures behind schedule as of today. This may be a disaster of epic portions.
Anonymous said:
Breaking News! Jennerjahn has disabled and removed all comments on his blog! Phil is freaking out at this big mess he made.
Anonymous said:
Adding insult to injury, Phil finally took down all of those comments falsely posted on his blog.
Some kook used the names Lew(sic)Grant, Gordy the Weatherman, Rhoda, Mary T. Moore, and all the other characters from Mary Tyler Moore.
I don't think it was Phil who posted them, but a certain internet stalker.
Anonymous said:
LOL. Yes, Phil once again overestimated his intelligence and underestimated the need to plan.

Jennerjahn is in full Kim Jong-il mode and has become an enemy of free speech. He is trying to silence his critics any way he can. Paranoid and alone, his world is collapsing.

Did you see John Walsh try to serve Mayor Villar today at the Metro meeting? He tried to personally notice him with a Recall Petition.... it was hillarious... Villar ducked out of the chamber just as Walsh was called to speak... Walsh ranted on where did he go? Why is he hiding?... democracy at its finest!!
Mayor Sam glad you have returned...

I have disabled the comments function on my blog.
I just don't have time for it. I'm running for office, and I'm trying to make the Recall a success.
I don't have time to waste going through 20-30 nutty posts a day...most of which are slamming me or critical in some way. I don't mind the criticism, but I don't need to waste any more time on it.
Maybe I'll enable it at some time in the future, but right now I am too busy.
