What was promised to be a big kick-off to Phil Jennerjahn's attempt to recall Mayor Villaraigosa turned out to be a big thud. Phil reported earlier Tuesday evening to have completed one petition which if the version we have access to online is correct, the two page document only has space for five signatures. Among the latest questions about this effort - which could distract from other efforts to bring about reform in Los Angeles - are 1) if this is not about anyone's ego why is Walter Moore being touted as the first signer of the petition and 2) If Phil's strategy for victory includes pulling in disgruntled City workers why does he post commentary that "public employees are killing this country?"
When you're a carpetbagger running for a statewide seat in a state you didn't grow up in what do you? Bring in your former boss who happens to be a former President of the United States. Andrei Cherny, formerly of AD40 here in the Valley is running for State Treasurer of Arizona is hosting a big campaign event featuring President Bill Clinton, for whom Cherny was once a wonderkind speechwriter for. And to prove he's a man of the people, if you can't afford the $840 to meet the former philanderer-in-chief in person all you po' folks can ante up $25 for the chance to win a raffle to get into the party. An insider recently told me that Cherny has little chance to win the race for Treasurer, an insignificant position in Arizona state government, but he's setting himself up for a Congressional race in 2012.
Now that he has succeeded in getting the final phase of the controversial Playa Vista development approved, CEO Steve Soboroff is stepping down. The LA Times reports that the move appears to be voluntary and quotes the former Riordan administration insider as wanting to move on to his next big challenge.

Phil's recall campaign is dead out the door. Walter Moore and David Hernandez will bail within days.
The press conference yesterday morning had very few in attendance. Phil got less than 100 signatures yesterday when he needs over 2000 a day for the next 120 days. That means he needs over 3900 signatures today to stay on track. He has few, if any, volunteers, no money, and the totals needed will multiply by the day. This is what happens when you set up a stupid publicity stunt and think it will get you elected to congress.
Phil is crying about you guys this morning on his blog, and says he "should have listened to Zuma Dogg" about staying away from the dark elements on this blog.
You know someone is in trouble. It's when they have Zuma Dogg as their moral authority.
Well, at least Phil didn't write about the food spread at his press "conference." What an ASS!
Other than being delusional, Phil's biggest flaw is that he is a liar.
The story was NOT #1 on KCAL9.
The State of the City was the #1 story. Then the RAIN was the #2 story. The recall was at LEAST the #3 story, unless I missed something else in there. And it was NOT a five minute story.
Phil has a penchant for lying about things THAT HE DOESN'T NEED TO LIE ABOUT! He can't accept with happiness that the story was covered at all, so he tries to make it something it wasn't. It was NOT the top story.
Ultimately, in addition to being delusional and self serving, being a LIAR is what will sink phil and his plans and schemes.
Blaming you guys and mary cummins will also be his downfall. What an ass hole.
I'm really shocked that Phil went out of his way to mention that Rick Orlov is disabled. Talk about having bad judgement!
His mentioning the food spread everywhere that mayor sam sent him was just stupid and annoying. Doing this on the recall post on his blog is downright offensive. How condescending!
Hernandez, who is a frequent political candidate himself, charges Mayor Villaraigosa failed to heed warnings years ago that the national recession would have a crippling effect on the city.
The Mayor's puppetmasters aren't stupid. They welcome this chaos. It makes their priorities easier to ram through--privatizing the parking structures, for example.
I think I hear the bus pulling up to Phil's stop.
Walter Moore is already on Ron Kaye's blog talking up Clean Sweep and playing down the recall.

After yesterday's fiasco what Walter and David have to do is either figure out a way to pull out of Phil's recall or to bounce Phil and take over themselves.
Neither will be easy.
Last I heard Joe Barrett stopped Home Depot in Sunland Tujunga and that was all over the news!

You know why I'll sign the petition? Here's why:

After all that we have been through the past 2 years they are STILL making budgets with rosier-than-reality projections? Who cares if Phil whoever is an idiot? I'll sign the petition because people like Tony Villar should never have the ability to hold political office again. Ever. He's the worst mayor LA has ever seen, and God help us if he is elected or appointed anywhere else and does more damage. He's a moron, and he needs to be sent home. Period. So I'll sign. And I'll support Clean Sweep too. No reason why one precludes the other.
Thank God Mayor Sam is back! Griffith Park Wayist is becoming a big boring circle jerk.
I'm not signing a petition that will ultimately be fumbled by morons.
On top of that, Phil likes calling people "freedom haters" if you disagree with him, but somehow HE is not respecting the fact that the idiot Villar was elected freely and fairly.
The remedy for a vote you don't like isn't a recall. It's called finding a better candidate. We didn't elect a better candidate last night.
Maybe next time we will. Or if we go for Eric or Wendy, we will get what we deserve.

We hated Jack Weiss too, but even THAT recall didn't work. BUT THE NEXT CAMPAIGN DID, AND JACKASS WEISS WAS GONE.

If a group of personally wealthy and politically active homeowners in West LA couldn't recall the most hated member EVER of the City Council what makes one think some guy who works part time as a Hollywood tour guide can recall a Mayor, who while no longer popular as he once was, still has a fairly decent base of support?
Oh Phil. Poor misguided Phil.
The Girl was looking down at City Hall with binoculars from an office across the street on the 17th floor. She sent dispatches to me all morning re: the press conference yesterday. She said she couldn't see anyone there at all. I had asked her to take video of it from her vantage point across the street.
It musta been canceled, she said.

Since it's half way through Day #2 Phil Jennerjahn is down 2,990 signatures. By the end of the day, it'll be 3,985 signatures behind schedule.

Nice, big style in that first paragraph. "Abuelito" not only refers to the speech but to previous times at this site; who would have thought the Mayor would invoke his own? It was better than satire! And then "Clucker-in-Chief MT" is certainly snide but snide enough to be agreeable! You may someday add that even though the former fishwrap of record posts op-eds of mine from 1989, it doesn't have this one from Jan. 2008 up anywhere! Finally, concluding that the voters "were duped by the grandson of Pedro Acosta" was simply a perfect close.
Joseph not meaning to be snide towards you of course just seeing that all us bloggy types now get to own the mayor's insult of us as cluckers.

Wonder whose brilliant idea it was for Villaraigosa to use his grandfather? Don't they know how much it sets him up for more jokes?
The Mayor could have scored had he come out and said "We're screwed, I'm one of the people who screwed it up and because the buck stops here, here are the 10 things I'm prepared to do to turn us around."

Someone should ask the recall people why no one from their group showed up to Council today where there were several dozen pissed off SEIU workers ready to sign.
Although the clean sweep idea sounds good in theory, nobody will get on board when it's led by people like Walter Moore or Phil. I would take Zuma Dogg more seriously than either one of them.
I'd rather be a clucker than a f*cker.
I really don't want to know what Soboroff's next big challenge is going to be.
