Phil Jennerjahn's Latest Dumb Idea

Okay I had to turn the lights on for a moment.

Phil Jennerjahn has been a good friend and I like him personally but he does some oddball things.

But Phil is now on his latest and greatest goofball doomed to fail scheme.

He wants to recall lame duck Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa.

He's also wrapped up good guy and good friend David Hernandez as well as failed Mayoral ego-candidate Walter "El Pollo Loco is a Sanctuary City KFC" Moore into this skit right out of "I Love Lucy."

Now y'all know A Villar is not my favorite mayor and yea he's made a mess out of things. But is it worth a recall effort?

I'd like to see an effort from all the SLAP happy goofball activists focus on the key issue that will save LA and that is jobs, jobs, jobs. Not billboards. Not bicycles. Not hamburgers.

I'd like to see some more good real grassroots candidates like Louis Pugliese and Mary Benson get out there and have effective campaigns that don't waste hundreds of thousands of dollar on vanity radio ads and baseball caps but walk precincts and make phone calls (like Louis and Mary did).

So Phil rather than trying to recall Villaraigosa, which you won't likely get the signatures and even if you achieve that you won't have the money and resources to go against his machine, why not spend the time recruiting and educating City Council candiates and build a real organization to elect them.

Or is this another publicity stunt Phil?

Now excuse me while I go back to the Batcave.

UPDATE: Walter Moore has jumped off this train wreck.

Higby, you couldn't be more wrong.

I have teamed up with the Medical Marijuana people to launch

RECALLCITYHALL.ORG

The dispensary owners....all 1000 of them, face annihilation from Nuch and the City Council. Just obtaining the signatures of only their patients alone should get us close to 200,000 signatures out of the 240K needed.

They have money, motive, manpower, and time.

They are the perfect ally.

We have locked up over $35,000 in donations in just over three days. They are willing to hire people to walk precincts and gather signatures. This will turn into a national story.

Laugh while you can.
If this works, every elected City Official is up for recall in November.

Walter wants Villaraigosa out, but will not be a part of this campaign, per his own request.

Strange, because if the recall/re-election goes through, he would be one of the top candidates to replace the Mayor.

And Higby, the website will be up and running soon.

We are just getting started.
This will take several months to complete this project.

Not bad for a blog that is closed down to get 10 comments even if its from all the former bloggers and the guy the story is about.

Whoa!

What a waste of time, money and resources.

If Phil wants to do something constructive, work to get some sensible people elected to the Council. If we get enough of them, the Mayor would be effectively neutered.

It's like the half-off campaign. It is dealing with the symptom rather than the root cause.

Mike, glad to have you back in the blogoshere, even if just for a visit.

Suz and I at V2V wish you the best.

Unless Villar is indicted for some nefarious act, we are stuck with him until 2013.

Phil's efforts would be better utilize in digging up the various acts of corruption during the Mayor's reign.

Phil using the marijuana community to raise his profile in advance of his race for Congress reminds me of how Walter Moore used the Shaw family
tragedy to promote his Mayoral campaign.

I wonder why Higby closed down this web site just before his friend Paul Koretz got elected with his help. i guess he didnt want to wait around for things to disentigrate and watch his good pal Paul go over to the dark side just as everyone predicted everyone that is except dear old Higby. He's sticking with good ol paul even while this city goes down the trash chute of fiscal mismanagement.
Something from today's fishwrap:

Meanwhile, council members Paul Koretz, Janice Hahn and Richard Alarcon said the city should avert layoffs by coming up with more money, such as taxing billboards and securing federal stimulus funds.

"I am absolutely not committed to doing a thousand layoffs until we have worked with our unions as partners," Koretz said.

Yeah Higby thats your man, tax billboards and that will pull us thru this fiscal crisis. What a joke. you critizied everyone who was critical of Paul. Now that Paul is in you flee the scene. afraid to take any I told you so's. come on Mike you sure can critize everyone else but you sure are a little thin skinned.

As Kenny Rogers used to sing (sorta),

"You picked a FINE TIME to leave us, Hig-beeeeee!"

Shutting down this blog just as the newer, bigger circus of budget wrangling started up at Council - complete with the daily pandering and fake drama going on for hours and hours and Councilmembers realizing they actually COULD bend further over than they'd ever thought before to satisfy the 3 dozen constituents for each special interest that showed up that day.

There's just TOOOOO much material available to lampoon now, and it's all low-hanging fruit.

That would have been like Lorne Michaels cancelling SNL the week GW Bush was sworn in. Or, starting a diet the day the buffet at the casino lowered its prices.
