With 14,940,000 people, Los Angeles is the world's 13th largest urban area—defined as “a continuously built up landmass of urban development. … the lighted area that can be observed from an airplane at night.”
By 2030, Los Angeles ranks 15th (overtaken by Seoul and Shanghai), with a population of 18,945,000 and an annualized growth rate of 1.14%. Also by 2030, Jakarta pulls ahead of Tokyo by nearly 3 million people for the number one spot.
With 65,600 people per square mile, Hong Kong is the world’s most densely-populated urban area. Ten times denser than LA, with half the population … No surprise there, but did you know Los Angeles’ urban area is denser than New York City’s?

Eric Garcetti just got an erection looking at all this "elegant density". Notice that you cannot see any of the streets for the endless apartment buildings.

You need to tell people that the report uses much different areas than what we actually think of as "L.A." and "New York" (i.e., "New York" in this case includes most of the states of New Jersey and Connecticut; and "L.A" to them doesn't EVEN just mean L.A. County... they've added O.C. and San Berdu, to boot) -- it's not L.A. City versus NYC.
Someone go tell the L.A. Angeles of ANAHEIM, they really ARE part of L.A. please, to some egghead consultant based in "Illinois."
If this was truly a case of "city" vs. "city" the density numbers wouldn't even be comparable... NYC is more than twice as many people as L.A. stacked into an area a fraction the size of our city limits.
No one but demented demographers consider "Riverside" and "Mission Viejo" to be part of the "L.A. urban area" -- GEEZ!

Three miserable years ago today, April 4, 2006, was the first day Zuma Dogg went to city hall for his first public comment.
Not such a triumphant ending. It's 4:24 in the morning, and this is the ONLY time I could get in front of a free computer. So at least check the other new posts on this blog (and LA Daily Blog link) cause I tried to catch up on some stuff just to keep my mind occupied.
But, I am completely broke and when I wake up, it will be BIG problems, because I am still on the streets without gas to drive around and am shaking from hunger now, which is why I am awake...and in the morning will be REALLY starving and I am actually in physical pain from hunger, right now. So beware any emails or voice mails you may get when I wake

9:30am, it's been this way all along since ZD has been at city hall (hungry and desperate every day, every morning.) I WANT TO KNOW WHAT ABOUT THESE FAILURES THAT HIGBY SEES AS COMPLEMENTARY TO THE JOB RESPONSIBILITIES OF A MAYOR? IN YOUR OWN LIFE, BOY, YOU ARE A FAILURE. SO WHO WOULD VOTE FOR YOU? AND PEOPLE, please stop trying to pawn off all your extra girl scout cookies you are stuck with on Zuma Dogg. I can only eat so many boxes a day. We could soak up all the toxic waste at Sunshine Canyon with those things.
How is it that zuma dogg is always begging shamelessly for food and gas so he won't pass out and have to sleep on the street, but then acts annoyed at people trying to "pawn off their extra girl scout cookies" because "I can only eat so many a day."
Even cookies keep you from passing out and maybe you could resell them for change. But even that's too much real work for the dogg, but we're supposed to be grateful he drags into city hall every day, to waste the time of our officials who we pay for with our taxes?
If he wants to keep getting attention instead of supporting himself like a man that's his problem, but why are we supposed to be twice-suckered in on his scam? (Watch Higby not post this, too ashamed that his pick for Mayor is such a loser.)
Athens is actually really nice. I was there in 2007 as part of a trip that included Greece, Turkey, and Israel. You have to remember that Athens has been in existence for thousands of years before the automobile was invented, so ..yes, most of their streets are tiny and clogged because they were designed for pedestrians and not for cars.
