Rick Orlov reports that most see a run-off in the race for City Attorney with perceived front runner under well funded challenges from both Carment Trutanich and Michael Amerian. Many within the Weiss camp are nervous that the 5th District Councilman may not even make the number two spot with reports that Trutanich and Amerian are both performing quite well.

Does Walter Moore see candidate Phil Jennerjahn as a threat to his campaign? If he doesn't, there's no reason for Moore to slam Jennerjahn for having dropped out of law school, as he did at a recent USC forum. Say what you want about Phil's experience, but even those who are not supporting Jennerjahn sense his sincerity is far greater than anything Moore could ever muster.
Politicians are catching the radar of paparazzi and tabloid television. Especially so for Gavin Newsom whose actress-wife appears in a new film in a threesome. The San Francisco Gate chronicles how Zuma Dogg caught Newsom and his political consultant Gary South recently in Malibu in some pre-election activities.
The LA Times has begun to finally catch on to how the internet is transforming political races. Political consultant Steve Afriat tells the fishwrap however that even with a strong internet presence candidates must still have a message or "the Internet just becomes the lipstick on the pig." This is true as we saw with CD1 candidate Jesse Rosas' website.
Residents on skid row who watch over the air television broadcasts may be out of luck when television goes digital in June. A quirk in Federal law prohibits the FCC from sending the coupons to residents of SRO hotels, group homes or non-profit housing. Most Skid Row denizens don't have the money to purchase the converter boxes themselves nor to get cable.

It is amazing how higby has something positive to say about every candidate, other than AV and Walter.
He shouldn't talk about the Times' bias without first looking in the mirror.
And some blogging you turn out to be Higby. You go on endlessly about the campaign and fail to make your own endorsements. What a sham. You could have at least told us sooner than two days before the election who you were endorsing.
So now voters must not be told candidate's educational and professional background?
If you're admitted to the emergency room, which person do you want treating you? The guy who graduated from medical school and who has treated patients? Or the guy who dropped out of medical school, and doesn't actually have a job?
The Mayor's race is a job interview. Voters are entitled to know each candidate's educational background; what licenses, if any, he holds; and whether he's even employed.
That's not a "personal attack." That's Due Diligence 101.
If you disagree, then you should never again point out that Villaraigosa failed to pass the bar despite four attempts.
One thing I've never liked about Walter Moore is his ability to be petty and small and mean-spirited.
Some of his YouTube videos show extreme animosity towards people who have come here from Mexico. That doesn't help when you are running for office in a city that is 48% Latino.
His anti-Villaraigosa commercials with a chicken clucking add NOTHING to his campaign and I think they actually make him look a bit childish.

....the Mayor is ahead and he is trying to "run out the clock". Even if he were to defeat us all in a debate, it wouldn't really increase his number of votes...so there is no point in it for him. However, I will always be personally offended that as the sitting Mayor of my city, he refused to appear at hundreds of community events he was invited to appear at. The other nine candidates appeared at many of them and answered questions from voters.
But, people can run their campaigns however they see fit. Walter can make all types of insults and cheap wisecracks if he wants. I don't care. I will answer them the way I answered that night at USC....
"A real leader doesn't need to make comments like that, and a real leader doesn't need to respond to comments like that, either."
Of course Walter is worried about me.
I'm a better candidate than he is.
I'm better with people.
I have natural leadership ability.
Unlike Walter, I keep my emotions in check and have no need to express anger or hatred.
I have no need to use scathing sarcasm to insult, ridicule, and belittle other candidates.
In fact, in this whole campaign, I only made one comment that I regret...and that was a bungled attempt to make a joke out of something Carlos Alvarez said at a forum.
I apologized for it, but Carlos went on to call me a "racist" and a "fascist" on his website. In fact, he called all the other candidates "racists".
But, Carlos can say what he wants.
I even shook his hand at USC and said I would defend his right to appear at these forums and to say whatever he likes.
Walter and some of the others have shown that they are a bit thin-skinned to be involved in politics. You have to be tough. And I'm plenty tough. I actually served in the military and most of the other candidates (except David Hernandez) did not.
The others can say whatever they want about me. I don't care. It all part of the game. I knew that when I signed up for it.
Teddy Roosevelt dropped out of Columbia Law School.
Rumor has it that he made a fairly good President of the United States.
Of course, a good many City electeds likely believe their jobs are more important than the U.S. Presidency.

You dropped out of law school. That's not an insult; it's a fact.
One of the duties of the Mayor is to make decisions about whether and on what terms to settle lawsuits seeking millions of dollars in damages from the City's taxpayers.
You have demonstrated an inability to grasp the basics of law. That is a material fact when it comes to selecting a Mayor.
Nor is this hypothetical. I heard you say at a forum that you would simply defy the federal consent decree. You clearly do not understand the ramifications of doing so.
I'm sorry you feel insulted, but your qualifications -- and lack of same -- are important.
Furthermore, you repeatedly describe yourself as a leader. Whom, exactly, are you leading? Has even one person contributed to your campaign? Has one person volunteered to distribute flyers for you, or to send out bumper stickers?
Nor is your claim of racial sensitivity persuasive. You actually called Carlos Alvarez "Taco truck Alvarez." Wow. Now THAT's insulting.
Like Villaraigosa, you are unable to defend your record. You have no job; no particular qualifications to be Mayor. So when someone points that out, you, like Villaraigosa, just engage in name-calling: racist, mean-spirited, etc.
Voters deserve better. And I think they're going to get it tomorrow.

No one gives a flying s**t that you're an attorney, Pompous Ass. We have far too many attorneys in government now. Phil and David should point out that you have no record of service at all while they served in the US Armed Forces. John McCain isn't an attorney. He's an American Hero.

The Los Angeles County Republican Party gave me an official endorsement (along with David Hernandez) because they liked what they saw in me...out there on the McCain campaign trail working super hard, donating my time and energy and money all for the greater cause.
Selflessness.
It is a concept Walter doesn't understand, because it means doing something that benefits others and not yourself.
In 2005 Walter went to the Los Angeles County Republican Party and asked for an endorsement to run for Mayor. He was turned down.
Voters will understand the difference.

You go to city council and declare that you're not going to tear down others (on something other than fact), and you run your ass home and do the opposite here on MS.
Personally, when I see someone with bonafide educational quals, it tells me that they're probably pretty intellectual. If I'm not mistaken, Walter went to Princeton and Georgetown. (Correct me if I'm wrong, Walter).

I would like to know what your QUALS are, other than having nothing to do in the middle of the day and come to city council. I would assume you earn a living doing something. Please tell us what you actually DO for a living!

And I have no doubt that Walter isn't "conerned about Phil" at all. While this probably isn't the best forum to discuss the issue, since that's what Villaraigosa and Ace Smith want, why don't you use something positive and tell us what you have accomplished in your career.
