Cedillo vs. Chu - It's a Race in the 32nd CD
After the huge voter turnout last November, it is almost embarrassing to note how few of us turned out for the various elections held this month in Los Angeles, Burbank, Pasadena and other cities. The aftermath of Prop. H8TE continues to play itself out but there are very few races to really get the blood flowing. The Open Primary legislation that state Senator Abel Maldonado was able to get on the statewide ballot for May 19th (as part of his budget deal concessions) is interesting—especially when coupled with the recent Redistricting measure passed by voters—but even then, the body politic will not have any heart palpitations over it.
The one race that has the promise of a real contest and political combat is the 32nd Congressional Special Election—also scheduled for May 19th. There are other candidates but the two frontrunners for the seat to replace former Representative and current Labor Secretary, Hilda Solis, are State Board of Equalization Member, Judy Chu, and State Senator Gilbert Cedillo. Many are friends with both progressive candidates and as one source who wished to remain anonymous noted, "It's like a fight within a family. I can't choose. I'm going to have to sit this one out."
The conventional wisdom is that Chu, known by many as a workhorse in political circles, has the edge given her endorsement by the L.A. County Federation of Labor, goodwill in the API community and Name ID in portions of the congressional district she represented while in the state legislature. She also has her husband and political powerhouse in his own right, Assemblymember Mike Eng, in her corner. Her campaign kick-off is tomorrow in Baldwin Park.
In terms of the 32nd Congressional District, it is located in Los Angeles County and includes portions of East Los Angeles and the San Gabriel Valley—the cities of Azusa, Baldwin Park, Covina, Duarte, El Monte, Irwindale, South El Monte, West Covina and portions of Monterey Park. It is a heavily Latino district—63%—and is thus considered to be a “Latino” seat. Voter turnout last November was 53.65% and Rep. Solis received 130,142 votes.
But if energy, shoe leather and the will to win has anything to do with it, we will be saying “Mr. Cedillo Goes to Washington” in a couple of months. He brings his own Name ID with his work on the DREAM Act and and Driver's License Bill--two issues of importance to working class communities in the 32nd CD. [I worked on Cedillo’s first special election back in ’97 as well as served on his staff in '04/'05 so I am not the most objective of political observers.]
Many were surprised at both the number of people and level of excitement at his campaign kick-off last Saturday in El Monte. Both Rep. Xavier Becerra and Supervisor Gloria Molina gave rousing speeches and encouraged the crowd to work hard on his behalf. Local Councilmembers Hahn, Alarcon and Reyes were there and an assortment of former and current state officeholders. The two things I know about Cedillo is also brings his own version of being a political powerhouse—going back to his days growing up on the Eastside, his leadership at SEIU and his tenure in the legislature--and has a knack for beating the odds.

Higby - is this ethical? You're turning the blog over to the spokeshole for Cedillo? What the fuck?

How about ZUMA DOGG for Congress!

This just tells me all the reasons that GIL CEDILLO should NOT be elected. And maybe his campaign can link to this thread if theirs is not enough.
Does a perpetuation of the bad state and local government somehow translate to GOOD government at the federal level? I think it does not.
He's got too many connections and like all special interests, they come first- well, AFTER the subject politician gives his proper attention to the "staying in office" priority that always comes as the FIRST guiding principle that they follow as reliably as a pigeon's homing instinct.
in cd-14 just observing it.

The Cedillo Drivers Licence Bill is not "of interest to working class communities," as you state but only to illegal immigrant communities. Everyone else has access to a legal California Drivers Licence. Yes you are biased, alright. ONE BILL GIL should hang it up in favor of Chu.

AT first I was against the driver's license for illegals but after hearing from people I now support them. There is no documentation of all the illegals in our city. If this driver's license bill passes the illegals will start a paper trail and the Feds can track them down and stop them from receiving free WIC, Welfare etc. cause they're using false social security numbers, addresses etc.

Gil Cedillo? Are you kidding?
"One Bill Gil", the least productive member of the California legislature?
Here's a guy that doesn't make appointments with anyone to discuss pending legislation, he's "too busy".
Doing what? How long can he use the excuse that his wife was ill and dying?
Hispanic area or not, Judy will kick his ass across the district.
And, I suspect, after the way he treated his former supporter and friend, Antonio Villaraigosa, that the Mayor may just weigh in, even if it is to just tell his supporters to keep their hands in their pockets when One Bill Gil asks.
I'd never, repeat, never support this guy. We'd never see hm again.

Obama will endorse Cedillo.

Judy - ha ha ha!!! She can't even make comments without it being scripted. She is nothing but a puppet the mayor is using to get back at Cedillo, even though it was the midget mayor that stabbed One Bill Gil in the back at least 3times in the back WAY BEFORE 1 bill endorsed Mayor Poopy.
Time 1 - When Hertzberg had votes to toss Villar out as Speaker, the only ones protecting him were Cedillo and Keuhl - Villar cut his deal and then left Cedillo there to fend for himself. CEdillo had to read about the deal in the paper, and still didn't hold a grudge.
Anonymous said:
Time 2 - Cedillo's first year in office - Speaker AV gets him to present all labor bills against the Indian Tribes, because HE did not want to take a hit, and thought GIl could handle (something Judy can't do)
Anonymous said:
TIME 3 - Met with 1 bill gil multiple times to tell him that MIdget Mayor was going to run for the Polanco Senate seat as a fall back in case he did not win for mayor, when Cediloo was still in the assembly.
1- bill gil gave him the finger and that is when the friendship ended.
Anonymous said:
Oh yeay, one more, when 1-bill Gil was doing all the heavy lifting for labor (2 bills that made it to US Supreme Court, and bills to make it easier to go after phucks that don't pay taxes - our lovable former speaker took credit.

THE FUN DOESN"T END THERE, how about these winners -
Kevin Leon - WHEN HE HAD NO TIES TO THE 45TH DISTRICT IT WAS ONE-BILL GIL THAT ARRANGED FOR KEVIN TO HAVE AN ADDRESS IN THE DISTRICT.
THAT ADDRESS BELONGED TO A CEDILLO STAFFER.
She should have charged Leon rent, because without that, HE DIDN'T EVEN HAVE RESIDENCE

How about this deal mayor sam -
HERE IS THE DEAL that was cut with labor:
- Judy runs for Congress and becomes a back bencher with a nice pension.
- Mike Eng (HER HUSBAND) runs for her BOE seat.
- Monica Garcia, runs for the Cedillo Senate Seat and takes her 100% graduation rate to Sacramento. Ed Hernandez also runs for the senate seat.
- Kevin tries to become speaker of the assembly.
- Mayor runs for Governor, then when he takes off, he leaves all these others phucks - huizar, garcia, Ricardo Lara without a sugar daddy.

Hey 5:12 - you are one funny loser - IT was AV that turned his back on cedillo, and their crew from the eastside, not Cedillo screwing AV.
IF AV can ditch his wife and so-called best friend whose union helped him get elected, imagine what he will do to you who worship him.
Anonymous said:
How will they cover up Judy's puppet strings on her campaign??
Same with Ricardo Lara, who was running for the 46th and now poof - running for the 50th.
Anonymous said:
6:21 - What the hell are you talking about, willis??
Mayor AV is the best thing that ever happened to the city, he is reforming the schools, planting a million trees, taking over the schoolboard and even telling the San Gabriel Valley how to vote.
What is not to like, don't you love his energy??

Get Zuma on the case - he will uncover the Mayor's plan to take over the SG valley.

You get elected, you get to have "Honorable" before your name. Even in Cudahy.
Barf bag is very 80's; might be dating yourself Anon 12:59. Maybe go with the more contemporary V in my M. ;)
Although Cedillo is a friend of mine and I am supporting him, I have not been his "spokeshole" and/or on his payroll for almost 4 years now. I took photos and shot video on my own dime/time. Perhaps it's a once/always thing with you.
I am biased but you underestimate Cedillo and ignore the district demographics at your own risk. Truth be told, I really like Chu and have nothing but high praise for both her and her husband.
EdHead? I fear that will catch on and legions of like-minded "con artists" will fashion themselves "EdHeads." Not quite fair to the real con artists out there like Ari Fleischer peddling his nonsense on Hardball this week and other Bush apologists like Michael Gerson.
I have no idea if endorsements are forthcoming from MAV, Solis and Obama. The latter two seem unlikely.
"One Bill Gil" is an oft-repeated moniker but it's very misleading. Check out what he's done on healthcare and other important issues. You might be surprised.
The Driver's License bill has been a lightening rod issue for several years now. Regardless of how you feel about it, unlicensed drivers are a big deal for all cities and especially the smaller working class ones in and around Los Angeles County.
Hope you enjoyed the post. Have a great Friday night folks. Only two more episodes of BSG ...

Reporting from Zihuatanejo, Mexico, and Mexico City -- It was a brazen assault, not just because it targeted the city's police station, but for the choice of weapon: grenades.
The Feb. 21 attack on police headquarters in coastal Zihuatanejo, which injured four people, fit a disturbing trend of Mexico's drug wars. Traffickers have escalated their arms race, acquiring military-grade weapons, including hand grenades, grenade launchers, armor-piercing munitions and antitank rockets with firepower far beyond the assault rifles and pistols that have dominated their arsenals.

Introduced by Senator Correa
Proposed Senate Bill No. 461
Bill To Make Mexican Identification Official
A pair of lawmakers in the nation’s most populous state has introduced legislation that would allow easily forged Mexican identification cards—popular among illegal immigrants—to be accepted as an official form of ID.
The California Democrats, a state senator from the south and an assemblyman from the north, want the Mexican Matricula Consular cards to carry the same weight as a U.S. government-issued identification—such as a Department of Motor Vehicle drivers license or a State Department passport—for business transactions.

Hey you stupid baby boomers, you should be so lucky to have illegal immigrants using fake social security cards and not want them to get busted for that. After all, those illegal immigrants pay into the system and never get to collect it. Therefore, you of that age to collect, won't really run out of money. What's a little free milk and cheese for a baby from WIC if it means, as you say, that they'll be paying into our SS funds in order to receive the rotten cheese. You will pay little now and get a lot in your golden years.
To the person trying to tie in Cedillo to Mexican drug warring that is going on, that is by far the most far-reaching, pathetically stupid lie I've heard made up in a long time. You have no basis for such things. It's obvious by your arguments (or shall I say comments) that you don't really get how the system works.
I wish we could mandate IQ tests for posters.

Cedillo had the biggest balls compared to all the whimps on clowncil like Huizar, Reyes, Alarcon, Cardenas, Garcetti, Weiss, Parks who all caved into the gang banger Mayor and campaigned for Hahn in 2005. Say what you want about Cedillo but that my friends took a shit load of courage to do at a time Hahn was getting hammered by 6 mayor candidates.
Anonymous said:
Courage? Courage? Are you nuts?
It took abject hate and or stupidity to endorse Hahn. It islike 1 Bill can't read a poll, because there were lots of them available to read.
Hahn had no idea what his administration was doing. he never should have been Mayor in the first place, it was just Bill Wardlaw knowing how to raise the money and finding that scurillous crap about making Antonio into a dope dealer.
They scared CD and others into going for the guy they could control.
And control they did!!! Wardlaw, Stein, Acevedo, Wong, all manipulated by Wardlaw's butt boy Troy Edwards (Hon. Troy Edwards, Deputy Mayor)controlled the major business of the city.
So, that's the corrupt group of folks endorsed by 1 Bill Gil, against the guy who made his career possible.
Judy Chu will outraise him better than 2:1 and will kicj his weenie butt.
He will go back to hiding in his Semate office until he is termed out.
What he needs to finish him off is an endorsement from this here blog, that does not have a spectacular record of winners these days...

We are looking for money and film industry talent to assemble a series of funny You Tube skits that introduce Antonio to the rest of the state as a liar in bed with every monied special interest he can suck up to. Let's organize the effort here on Mayor Sam.
Many here could suggest shooting script ideas.

Chu's husband was her successor for both City Council and the Assembly. Unbelievable. Bobby Shriver wants to run for City Attorney because he's a Kennedy. Villaraigosa elects his relatives to office. Even the Republicans do this shit like the Runners and the Stricklands. And don't forget the Clintons and the Bushes.
I am sure Mrs. Obama and Mrs. Biden will run for something.
For Christ sake this isn't South America, England, France, etc. We aren't supposed to have dynasties.
Still if the choice is only Chu or Cedillo it has to be Chu.

How about California? Does anyone know?
Nevada’s $630 Million Illegal Immigrant Burden
One of the states hardest hit by the nation’s dire financial crisis annually spends hundreds of millions of dollars to educate, incarcerate and medically treat its rapidly growing illegal immigrant population.
Each year taxpayers in Nevada, the country’s fastest growing state, spend a whopping $630 million to provide illegal aliens with public services that should be reserved for legal U.S. residents.
The burden has taken such a toll that the desperate state legislature passed several measures to help curb illegal immigration.
Among them are laws addressing human smuggling and drivers licenses. Additionally, local police departments in municipalities with especially high illegal alien populations—such as Las Vegas—have entered into federal partnerships to enforce immigration law.
But the damage has been done in a once prosperous state that for nearly two years has had the nation’s highest home foreclosure rate. Around 5 million fraudulent mortgages nationwide are in the hands of illegal aliens, according to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and its no secret that a substantial chunk of them are in Nevada. Illegal immigrants are draining the state in other ways too.
A report (The Costs of Illegal Immigration to Nevadans) published by a nonprofit organization that strives to secure the southern border, lays out the alarming statistics which were obtained by using federal and state figures.
A poll had already revealed that a majority of Nevadans think illegal immigration is having a negative effect on the state's budget.
This will only drive the point home.
The state spends $470 million annually to educate the children of illegal immigrants in public schools and an additional $45 million for limited English program. Eighty five million goes to healthcare for illegal immigrants and $31 to incarcerate them.
Other similar reports have been published in the last few years documenting the huge financial burden that illegal immigration has on states, counties and cities throughout the country. U.S. taxpayers annually dish out tens of billions of dollars to educate, incarcerate and medically treat the nation’s estimated 12 million illegal immigrants.

And as for you, Mr. Headington, or whatever the heck your name is, you're just as bad as One Bill Gil for claiming to be his friend. You can be sure he cares nothing for you-- you're not Latino.
