Open Thread for Saturday
Today is the day of the big Circus in Sunland-Tujunga. Joseph Mailander wraps the whole sordid tale of Home Depot and our friends to the north in a nice big box with smart and pretty bow around it. This afternoon, Mrs. Ridley-Thomas brings her army of happy mediators to Mt. Gleason Junior High for the biggest Charlie Foxtrot since NBC brought us Supertrain.
Your guesses as to what will happen?

Doesn't anyone else think it is a conflict of interest that Bitter Bernie is giving tons of presentations in city council to people who are openly campaigning for him? He's given certificates for churches, organizations and others in the recent weeks who are out campaigning for him to be Supervisor. This is the reason why he shouldn't be elected, he's always had corruption in his backbone.

I'm guessing.... bussed in "community support" for Home Depot.
That's my guess as to what will happen.

Is it my own perception or have many of the third floor spinners stopped posting?
Maybe they are beginning to realized how pissed off the "citizens" have really become.

Avis Ridley Thomas's outfit does nothing more than put the "we did all that was possible to mediate this thing" veneer on it before it goes to court. That way the city can cover it's massive behind. Have you ever BEEN to a Days of Dialogue event with A.R.T's group mediating? It's a quaint set up but nothing EVER gets done. Pure waste and I bet their budget didn't get cut one iota. Lose this Mayor.

The reason that "Supertrain" failed because it was a complete rip-off of "Love Boat" but on a train. What would people rather watch? Hot guys and girls on a cruise ship to Mexico or people riding, drinking, dancing and working out on a train from New York to LA?
The reason that Home Depot will ultimately fail in Sunland-Tujunga is because they didn't play their cards right from day one and the planets have aligned as such that any day now life is going to be miserable for shady developers et al and their elected official friends as the Coming City Superstorm (including Hurricane Zev) starts brewing to full force.
I tried to warn 'em!

"A lot of students are depressed because of the conditions in their school," said Anna Exiga, a junior at Jordan High School who was one of the organizers of the survey. "They see that their school is failing them, their teachers are failing them, there's racial tension and gang violence, and also many feel that their schools are not schools -- their schools look more like prisons."

8:31 AM, you make me sick to my stomach. I hope you get the biggest big box store in the U.S. next to your house.
Better yet, I hope your house gets taken by eminent domain and you have to move. Go to Simi Valley where like-minded people live, you redneck.

Actually from what I heard yesterday there were a few converts, Anon 10:38am.
Several people told me about pro-HD folks who were at their tables. Apparently the pro-HD people were not up to date on the key issues. They listened and they learned. Once they heard the facts, the ways in which a HD store would negatively affect the community and its residents, they came around, shifting their support to the community.
After all if Home Depot thinks they are such a gift to Sunland-Tujunga why has the corporation gone out of its way to avoid an Environmental Impact Report?
What on earth do they have to hide?
