Mayor Sam's Hotsheet for Monday

Tractor Dealership, Hazleton, Iowa - Photo by Mayor Sam

Rumor of the day: Mayor Villaraigosa will propose cutting the funding provided to the City's Neighborhood Councils on Monday.

There's been a buzz about Zev for Mayor for weeks. His "anti-density" tour has received lots of press as well as the adoration of NIMBYs everywhere. However, two bloggers are taking him to task. Boi from Troy makes the case that Zev's policies promote sprawl; making LA something akin to Kansas. Politicker says that Zev is a big time hypocrite who allowed high density development when it benefited the wealthy on the Westside, overbuilding the area while at the same time opposing the subway to the sea. Though many Angelenos pissed off at Mayor Villaraigosa and the City Clowncil for kowtowing to developers would gladly vote for Zev; political insiders tell me Zev doesn't have the cojones to challenge Antonio.

This isn't getting much buzz. Councilman Richard Alarcon stung from his loss on the Las Lomas development vote was once again the odd man out, but this might endear him to the Neighborhood Council crowd: He was the lone vote against raising DWP rates. He explains why in CityBeat.

A Texas teenager was given a school assignment to create a protest sign. She chose opposition to illegal immigration as her cause. Upon arriving to school with her sign, she was jumped on, thrown up against a brick wall and told she would be raped and killed by several other students. Most likely, the school will suspend her for "hate speech" and the violent students will get counseling. So much for liberal tolerance!

Talks continue between the Screen Actors Guild and producers before the contract deadline of June 30th. If no settlement is reached, an actors strike could start up just as production for the fall TV season gets underway. Maybe Mayor Villaraigosa could say something that means something here?

An architecture blog posts one of Frank Gehry's initial sketches for the Walt Disney Concert Hall. It looks sort of like one of those doodles you make when you're on the phone with someone you don't want to talk to.

Thank You David Z for having the guts to report the truth. IN LAT David points out that Villaraigosa will be giving money to gang programs he has no clue are successful and talks about LA Bridges being dropped.

Dumb ass Laura Chick didn't even audit the gang programs. Why not? Because there is so much corruption with them and their ties to campaign donations she didn't have the guts to do her damn job. Today Antonio will give gang programs money. You watch him give more money to corrupt Homeboy and many more who don't do a damn thing for gang prevention.

LAT...Even Chick, not known for shying from a fight, never audited the effectiveness of the anti-gang programs during her seven years in office. Instead, she released a report in February calling for various anti-gang programs to be shifted into the mayor's office, and pointed out, yet again, that they weren't being properly reviewed.

HOW DO RESIDENTS KNOW WHO TO LOOK FOR??? THEY DESCRIBED THE ATTACKERS CAR...BUT NOT HIS NATIONALITY!

I HAVE WATCHED 3 TV REPORTS AND NOT ONE HAS MENTIONED ETHNICITY!

SHAMEFUL!

82-Year-Old Beaten With Bottle In Home Invasion Robbery

KNBC-TV
updated 7:22 p.m. PT, Sun., April. 20, 2008
STUDIO CITY, Calif. - An 82-year-old man was bound, beaten and robbed Saturday at his Studio City home, police said. Video

The home invasion robbery happened about 11 a.m. at a house on a private road in the 11400 block of Laurelcrest Road, said Los Angeles police Sgt. Warren Jones of the North Hollywood Station.

The victim, Bob Romans, is a former physician who lives alone, KNBC reported.
A man in his 30s walked up to Romans, who was sitting outside his home, asked for directions, and then forced the elderly man into his home, Jones said.

"He started talking to him and the next thing he knew the guy pushed him into the garage and he fell on the concrete, and then he dragged him inside and shut the door," his daughter, Lynn Takacs, said.

He beat Romans, bound him to a chair with wire, ransacked the house, took his cell phone and credit cards, then knocked him over the head with a wine bottle when he left, KNBC reported.

Romans eventually worked himself free and called police, the TV station reported. His daughter said Roman had craftily held his hands wide apart when the robber tied him up so that he could easily free himself when the man left.

He was transported to Providence Saint Joseph's Medical Center in Burbank, where he required 40 stitches, according to KNBC.

Mr. Higby: Please be accurate in your reporting the vote on DWP rate increases. Councilman Zine voted against water rate increases. I'm not trying to be a champion for Zine here, I am just aiming for accuracy.

This story in today's LAT talks about the shortage of skilled labor in the city, and how we need to start training immigrants to move into the skilled labor force. This really does complete the creation of LA as a third world city. Is the Times just TRYING to piss people off? Is this their way of saying "wake up" America? The entire story is about this Guatamalan or that Mexican immigrant getting job training. What about Americans??

They dont need us anymore. The illegals and anchor children get everything they need from the government ( which we have been paying for since 1960) so only the anchor children and illegals need RETRAINING. Why didNt they learn it when they were in school? Oh I forgot, they failed English, Math, Science (except making METH, COKE, ) AND SOCIAL sevices

Special Order 40 is a blatant violation of Federal and State Laws.

In 1996, Congress enacted legislation which states, “…a Federal State, or local government entity or official may not prohibit, or in any way restrict, any government entity or official from sending to, or receiving from, the Immigration and Naturalization Service (now Immigration and Customs Enforcement) information regarding the citizenship or immigration status, lawful or unlawful, of any individual.”

California law also mandates that LAPD officers enforce immigration laws and work with federal immigration officials. “Every law enforcement agency in California shall fully cooperate with the United States Immigration and Naturalization Service (now Immigration and Customs Enforcement) regarding any person who is arrested if he or she is suspected of being present in the United States in violation of federal immigration laws.”

If you the police or city officials do not like state and federal laws, they should work to change them, not just create a “SPECIAL ORDER”, which blatantly violates federal and state laws.

A lawsuit was filed in 2006 (LA Superior Court) to stop the illegal use of taxpayer money to carry out the provisions of Special Order 40. This lawsuit is proceeding forward despite the stalling of Bratton and the ACLU.

Mr. Higby, if you don't want Ken Draper ripping you apart, fix your verbiage about Alarcon. It is CityWatch, not City Beat. At least that's where you have linked to.

04/09/08 - Athens, Texas
Athens School 'Attack' Proven To Be False, Girl To Be Charged

There have been major new developments in the case of a supposed beating of a student from Athens Middle School.

Charges are being filed against 13 year old Melanie Bowers by Athens ISD through the Henderson County District Attorney's office for filing a false report, said AISD officials on Wednesday.

Bowers claimed earlier this week that she was beaten and threatened with violence and rape by a group of students at Athens ISD last Friday, for creating a protest sign saying, "If you love our nation, stop illegal immigration."

After Melanie's accusations, administrators reviewed school survellience videotape of the incident - which, instead of showing students beating or attacking her, showed Bowers scratching herself on her arms, face, and neck, and walking through the halls of the school calmly long after she claimed the incident happened.

After Melanie's parents were presented with that information and the video, the school confronted Melanie, and she admitted that she had made up the story.

Athens School 'Attack' Proven To Be False, Girl To Be Charged
East Texas Teenager Attacked Over History Project

Athens residents we spoke to Wednesday were shocked at the news Melanie Bowers' entire story was made up.

"For her to make it up it is just unbelievable, blows my mind," said Laurie Caves, area resident.

"I think she ought to be prosecuted against," said Athens resident Michael Kyle.

13-year-old Melanie Bowers is seen on the school's surveillance cameras scratching herself, and another student is seen taking her sign and throwing it away. Gaby Barrios was one of the students placed on in-school suspection in connection with the incident.

"I feel that I was discriminated against," said Gaby.

Gaby told KLTV 7 News the same thing the tape shows - she never touched Melanie. Nobody did.

"They were passing the sign around at school. I saw it. I just got up to ask her about it. Nothing else, nothing more," said Gaby. "They placed me in ISS because they accused me of hitting her, scratching her and threatening her, when I didn't do that. I didn't touch her. I didn't do anything to her. To me they put me in ISS for something I didn't do."

YOu figure hundreds of police officers, closed streets, dept. of transportation, street services, city employees and no one wants to say what the cost. Zuma this is for you cause I'm sure it must be a special event waiver and idiot Reyes is the one who waived it.

Leave it to the LA Slimes to have an opinion on the taco trucks in East Los Angeles from an Asian. Great, that's all we need is an Asian giving advice on why taco trucks are so great. Its as bad as going into a Mexican Rest. and having an Asian get your order and in the back making Mexican food. What has this city come to?

EXCUSE ME. The misinterpretation was certainly not in Higby's court. Apparently the school misinterpreted the act or even the media - In Texas, not on a blog in LA. These postings are always subject to update and editing. Because it was reprinted here by Mayor Sam is nothing but a credit to his eye for a story. This one didn't pan out. That's lightening news for you. Keep up the good work Mayor. Go kick rocks DQ..

Excuse me Anonymouse,

The update is dated April 9 and was available on KTLV's website on April 9. Mayor Sam posted it today. Today is April 21. The update was there for a week.

The two updates are posted on the SAME WEB PAGE where Mayor Sam found the April 8 story. The updates have been available since April 9.

It's a discredit to his eye for a story but it is a great credit to his eye for a spin.

The Department of Neighborhood Empowerment took a ten percent cut, but individual NC's fifty thousand didn't take a cut. Curious, why did the Human Relations Commission take a 51% cut? What did they do to the Mayor?

Human Relations Commission is probably the city Department that should oversee the gang prevention.

No I do not work for HRC or even the city. I have just seen them work and they are far better than Carr.
