Mayor Sam's Hotsheet for Tuesday
Jon Friedman at MarketWatch interviews former Mayor Richard Riordan who takes on the LA Times, including the recent departure of editor Andres Martinez who left over the "Grazer-gate" brouhaha. The Mayor also says he's glad he never went through with his previous plans to start his own paper.Rick Orlov via LA Voice quotes Councilman Tom LeBong expressing hope that the Los Angeles St. Patrick's Day parade would rival the Hollywood Christmas Parade. Too bad, as Orlov notes, the 75 year old holiday event has been canceled permanently.

Assemblyman Lloyd "The Bachelor" Levine has yet another plan in the works to get his name in the paper as he plans to run for Sheila Kuehl's (probably) soon to be termed out seat: A law making it illegal for schoolkids to bully fellow students because they are gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgendered. Bullying of children for any reason is unacceptable be they gay, African American, fat or Republican. How about enforcing current rules, beefing them where necessary and enacting zero tolerance for bullies. Do we need politically correct, feel good legislation that elevates harassment of one population over another? Shame on The Bachelor for grandstanding yet again.

thanks for headlining the immigration videos which I linked to this morning. I sent Tony Vera down to cover the march, but it was a little tame.

If only it were on the books...its illegal to bully kids based on race or gender, but not on sexual orientation...the law would add it to the books.
Stuart: Mayor Sam is saying there should be no distinction for race, sex or orientation. He is saying all bullying should be illegal.

Not Stuart, but thanks for playing. But since there ARE distinctions for race and sex when it comes to bullying (and NO legislator is going to make a law ammending the entire section, then why not add orientation as well?

Garcetti's letter
RE: "Garcetti's folly" (Our Opinions, March 25): Wow! What a letter he sent to the hotels regarding the boycott because they are fighting hotel workers union wage demands. I just wonder how much money he received from the union backing this thing. I just wonder why he thinks he has this much power. These council people meet three days a week (sometimes). The rest of the time they spend dreaming up ideas of how to tax the homeowners.

Being a small businessman in his district, I know the baloney of receiving no courtesy calls from his office after trying to reach him for eight straight weeks. He's so interested in economic development in the San Fernando Valley that it makes me so comfortable. He's said the same thing the first two terms, and now he has six more years of eating at the taxpayers' feeding trough. All he cares about are raises for the City Council. Maybe in the next six years, the cat will change his stripes and pay attention to some of us in the business community.

Jack Re: "Cautionary tale: Weiss recall attempt ought to be a warning to all" (Our Opinions, March 15):
I applaud the Daily News for bringing to the forefront what so many residents have been thinking: Jack Weiss is an absentee councilman when it comes to working with homeowners and residents. He may show up at a few street fairs, but has a hard time showing respect to homeowners and residents who confront him with serious problems of traffic, overdevelopment and public safety.
Since Jack Weiss has publicly said he is now focusing on the 2009 election for city attorney, there are many in the district who think he should resign his council seat so someone can devote 100 percent of his or her energy to serving the homeowners and residents of Council District 5. It's time to hit the road, Jack.

Wow! My biggest fear is that the general public isn't aware of these issues covered on this blog. (In other words, I'm scared people don't see through these shady councilmember's fraud, waste and abuse. But I see these fools aren't fooling anyone. That's good, "Hit the road, Jack." Wish I thought of that.
