EAA striking AGAIN at LAX on Sunday when travelers come home. I use to support EAA but now they're beginning to look lame and unorganized. IF they would have done it right to begin with then all these little strikes wouldn't be necessary.

EAA got the strike sanction from the Federation of Labor AND the Teamsters. They have my support. It's about time a city union stood up to the Clowncil and mayor. No more kissing ass, time for kicking ass...

that taser cartoon is what prompted me to give you the kudos. It reminded me of one Schorr cartoon that lambasted our ex great irish councilman Art Snyder for his rash of D.U I.'s. It showed Snyder driving into the council chambers with the caption "I guess we have quorum now"

Mayor Sam took the "moderation" off comments because no one was willing to pay for pop-up ads based in the 4-5, "gee, I agree, Walter" comments the site has been was averaging per thread, and the dismal visitor count that resulted.

I hear that plans are in the works for LA Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa to (finally) endorse Phil Angelides Tuesday, perhaps at events in Los Angeles and San Francisco.
This I am told, will happen a couple days before the governor signs Villaraigosa's cherished bill giving him more control over the Los Angeles Unified School District.
I will attempt to confirm this information...But I doubt anyone will cooperate.

Sanchez said the mayor’s campaign to remake the district resonates with some parents who are fed up with their children’s schools. “Villaraigosa has exaggerated the problems of LAUSD,” Sanchez conceded..."
Riordan’s endorsement and support are crucial to Villaraigosa. He’s the mayor’s wingman on the right, and his link to Gov. Schwarzenegger. Also, Riordan has a long record of involvement in education and LAUSD specifically, whereas Villaraigosa’s involvement is of more recent vintage. The change Riordan wants is technical, but significant.

I just watched LA mayor Villaraigosa's news conference at LAX. And I must tell you that I was NOT impressed. On at least 3 occasions, he said things I had a hard time understanding. At one point he was grasping for the word "vigilence" and came close, but invented a new word that I sort of understood but never had heard of before.
I know the guy is a rookie mayor, but he looks like he's in the deep end of the pool without his "floaties."
You should not be suprised by Villaraigosa's lack of attention to this issue. He is by choice not the mayor of an American city. His camapign retoric was the final straw in my leaving L. A. "I will represent all the groups that make up L. A. the Hispanic, Black, Oriental, and Native Americans." What about us Whites. Those who didn't get the hint and stayed, good luck to you.
As for the rest of us and this threat, we have to keep an eye out for what Savage calls the enemy whith in, because they will enable these menaces.

In the on-going debate over Proposition R, some argue that we shouldn’t have any term limits at all while others argue that eight years is enough. And, prior to the election, the supporters of Prop. R spent more than half a million dollars to convince us that an additional four years somehow would make our city officials more honest and prevent corruption.
Is any amount of time in office enough to achieve the goals so important to our elected officials and the community at large? We would welcome such a debate. But that was not what Proposition R was about.
TermedOut.com was constructed with one intention in mind–to prevent the passage of Proposition R. Many people misunderstand our mission and think our objective is merely to prevent city officials from serving more than eight years in office. This is a misinterpretation of our position.
Our battle is not now nor has it ever been about term limits per se. We are opposed to the shifty tactics the LA City Council, the League of Women Voters and the LA Area Chamber of Commerce have exploited in order to get council members another four years in office. We oppose the misleading, dishonest and duplicitous devices they employed to get measure R on the ballot by wrapping a term limit increase in a clever Ethics Reform package.
For this reason, our lawsuit challenges the constitutionality of Proposition R by arguing that it violates the California Constitution by combining two unrelated issues in the same ballot measure. The following is taken from Article XI, sec. 7.5 of the State Constitution,
SEC. 7.5. (a) A city or county measure proposed by the legislative body of a city, charter city, county, or charter county and submitted to the voters for approval may not do either of the following:
(2) Contain alternative or cumulative provisions wherein one or more of those provisions would become law depending upon the casting of a specified percentage of votes for or against the measure.
In addition, Volume I, Article IV, sec. 450, subdivision (b) of the City of Los Angeles Charter provides: “Petitions to amend the Charter (which is what Prop. R does) shall be governed by provisions of the California Constitution and applicable provisions of state law concerning Charter amendments.”
We at TermedOut.com hold the position that whether you are for or against term limits is beside the point. This is what the constitution says. If we are to be a nation of laws, then we must abide by them. And it is our responsibility to see to it that our elected officials abide by them also.
So all you folks you have already served your terms in the Horseshoe, do us all a favor and wait until after the December 4th legal challange is resolved in the courts. Other wise you risk all the ill will our 39th district Assemblymember elect has created from the political musical chairs and his premature election announcement.

This is without a doubt the worst board of police commissioners the city has ever had. Mack, the racist anti-lapd activist was appointed cause he helped Antonio get some of the black vote. Every decision these police commissioners have made is to appease the blacks. Watch for another sacrificial lamb LAPD officer be sacrificed for the blacks come Tuesday at Pena decision. She is insane enough to compare Michael Richard's psychotic racial rant at a couple of hecklers with OJ Simpson murdering two people, one of whom bore his children!! Is anyone out there as outraged as I am? I know the Times has become a rag but even for this this is appalling. She's practically inviting black people to go murder someone because they should be so pissed off about Richard's name-calling. She doesn't even think OJ should have been punished - she actually says it's a rare instance of justice being done!! Maybe she should compare her column with that of a KKK member - she might begin to understand what makes people racist in the first place.

Walter, maybe if you had Parke as your consultant and if your father was an alcoholic and if your were a high school drop out, maybe you'd have chance. Oh wait, Parke doesn't do white men, just minorities, women, gays and lesbians.
But you've got to hand it to Parke, he took every conceivable negative Latino sterotype and turned it into a succesful campaign platform. And for the record, Antonio's father was never really an alcoholic. After Antonio's mom and him seperated, he went on to have a 35+ year marriage and raised four college educated, professional Latinos. But that doesn't look to good on a campaign brochure when you want your candidate to play the victim.
Wow! So, Antonio's dad was not an alcoholic. For law geeks here, isn't this slander or libel on Antonio's part.

Huizar has spent nearly $500,000, has the endorsement of every Latino elected official out there, has the backing of all the unions - yet he still attacks a community non-profit and their 75 year old leader with lies. You forgot about the girl that Tony got pregnant at 16. She was a naive, innocent Catholic School girl from Sacred Heart of Jesus. Tony got her to fall in love with him and then got her pregnant. This led to Tony's first stint as an organizer. He got all his friends together and they all claimed that they took turns on the girl - some organizing. The father went to court, the baby was given up for adoption and the family sold their business on Olvera Street and moved to Fresno. Just another in a long line of women's lives Tony has ruined. This could be chalked up to youthful indiscretioin if such activity stopped during his youth. But Tony is still behaving the same way, after nearly 35 years, nothing has changed.

I was shocked to read that Alarcon actually said this at the LA County Democratic meeting a week ago........Richard Alarcon introduced and nominated Antonio Villaraigosa. Well, yes, the Villaraigosa team does reject the insinuations in the Tony Castro piece. In reading it through however, beneath it's snide psuedo-psychoanalyzing, it really doesn't make any hard claims.
As far as I can tell the claims are these:
1) Herman Katz, the teacher who encouraged Antonio to apply for college and paid the cost of his SAT exam, did not think that what he did was as big a deal as Antonio did. Huh? Wouldn't that make sense? I've heard Antonio tell the story a number of times over the past 14 years and he frequently points out that when he, years later, contacted Mr. Katz, his former teacher didn't remember what he had done. Teachers touch thousands of lives -- and change quite a few, often unknowingly. That is the whole point of the story. Mr Katz has never challenged the accuracy of Villaraigosa's story.
2) That Antonio's estranged father denies that he was abusive to Villaraigosa's mother. He would not be the first abuser to do so. At the same time Castro quotes Villaraigosa's cousin, Ramon Villar, as fully corroborating the Mayor's recollections. Others do too.
3) That Villaraigosa's father did not give the son from his second marriage the same name he had given Villaraigosa. He named him Anthony -- which is not only the same name, but Villaraigosa was called Anthony throughout his youth.
4)That Villaraigosa was not a star athlete in high school. He has never said that he was. He said that he played high school football and (according to the article) was "not on the first string." Where is the contradiction? Surely people who were not star athletes are entitled to employ the occasional sports metaphor.
Other bizarre points in the article include opining that Antonio and his wife combining their names when they married constituted some kind of devious effort to "reinvent" himself. Strange. Maybe it was just a loving gesture. Maybe they don't like hyphens.
Castro also quotes an Eastside activist, Art Pulido, at length. Without going into the immense wisdom of using Pulido as a source for anything, Pulido seems to be saying that sometime between the age 25, when he worked out with Villaraigosa at a gym, and the age 35 when he encountered him again, Villaraigosa had upgraded his wardrobe and shaved off his mustache. Gee, that happens to a lot of us between those ages.
In short, the Castro article is a smarmy pastiche of inference and insinuation, unbuttressed by a smidgen of factual evidence.

3)Villaraigos was called Tony. Yes, he did exaggerate to make a disturbing and false point. It helped with the votes.
4)Here we go again, AV exaggerated to the point of no return.
So, Antonio is "truth challenged?"
Now in his second year in office, Villaraigosa, 53, is catching himself in some of those inconsistencies - those embellishments of the past or his tendency to exaggerate or bolster his importance - flaws that can often simply be attributed to a faulty memory or political hyperbole.
Faulty memory includes telling people his father was an abusive alcoholic who walked out on his family, then gave the identical name to a son sired by his new wif, and being raised by a heroic single mom.
The truth is his mother remarried and had a second family - including another son, Rob Delgado, the mayor's half-brother - while Antonio was still living at home.
And that alcoholic dad?
"God knows that I was never an alcoholic and that I never hurt his mother or abused my family," Antonio Ramon Villar Sr. said in an interview, denying the mayor's long-accepted account of his difficult childhood.
"I know the public has been poisoned against me, but this is the truth, so help me God."
Villaraigosa's claim that his father later gave another son the exact same name he had given him also is inaccurate.
That other son was christened Anthony Gustavo Villar, and today he is a professor at the University of California, Santa Cruz.
Anthony Villar, 45, has gone so far as to personally contact Villaraigosa to challenge him on why he has publicly vilified their father, said Estela Villar, Anthony Gustavo's mother and the wife of Antonio Ramon Villar Sr.
The second family of Villar Sr. portrays a husband and father who has been gentle, loving, kind and deeply religious - and who in 47 years of marriage to Estela has never abused either his wife or their four children, nor shown any hints of alcoholism.
