Thanksgiving Open Thread
Happy Thanksgiving!
For what are you truly thankful? I, for one, am thankful that this year's TV coverage of the mayor washing someone's feet was shorter than last year. That SO creeps me out. Does he do that before, or after, handing out the turkey legs?
Want to know what the Clowncil's thankful for? Here's what I think it looks like: Moore's daily comics.
Remember how dangerous it is out there. No, not because of the drunk drivers. It's the food, stupid. Stay svelte. After all, this IS L.A., so all that matters is your looks. "Seconds" is okay; "fourths," not so much. There will be plenty of leftovers tomorrow.
As far as news goes, the Daily News reports tension between Rocky and the Clowncil for the whole "blame the lawyer" thing. Meanwhile, the Clowncil has approved a $350,000 settlement with another firefighter, one who alleged age discrimination. No word yet whether he shaved any scrota. Now blog away, turkeys.

Hey Walter nice you got a mention in LAWEEKLY.COM Good story by David Zahniser. This reporter needs to write for Time or Newsweek he's so good.
....Alarcon, For now, he’s a state senator, having served in that post since 1998. In a couple of weeks, he’ll be a state assemblyman, thanks to his victory on November 7. And now he’s a candidate in the March City Council election, the latest guy to go after the seat held by departing Councilman Alex Padilla.
If you only recently started following City Hall, you might not even remember Alarcón. He served five years on the City Council and then won an ugly race for state Senate. His star power waned dramatically by the time of the 2005 election, when he ran for Los Angeles mayor with a series of bizarre commercials that landed him in fifth place, narrowly ahead of Walter Moore, the grumpy blogger from Playa del Rey.

Why is there not one mention that the new LAFD settlement came after that firefighter WON his jury trial?
How about reporting on THAT?

Because it is an inconvenient truth that gets in the way of scoring political points.

Can you site a source for your assertion? I re-read the L.A. Times article, and saw nothing saying the settled case had reached trial. Rather, the article said that there were three cases; one settled;and two were still set for trial. Here:
"Bressler's part of the case is set for trial Jan. 16. Lee's trial date is expected to follow soon after, officials said."
So if you have something, do tell. That would certainly make a difference to me. I mean, if the guy won $500K, and the City settled for $350K, then that might be OK. But that's not what the article says.

The talk at the dinner table at this East L.A. household was the article by Tony Castro. There were several people present who grew up with Antonio, some were even in the same car club as him when they used to meet behind the old CSO building on 1st and Chicago. I guess this article really loosened their tongues because unlike years past there were plenty of stories about Antonio. The guy should have been put away long ago, Castro needs to know there is so much more out there. Giving girls reds - before there was such a thing as a date rape drug; growing hundreds of marijuana plants in his attic, only to blow his investors money because all the plants dried up and died - no such thing as Miracle Grow in those days but Tony made up his own failed concoction; and of course the Venice Room came up again. People that stayed quiet before are starting to talk now. One guy in attendance even disavowed any loyalty code on tarnishing Antonio. As he put it, "he's not one of us anymore, none of us would do that to our fathers just for personal gain." Stay tuned.

Thankful for: The beginning of the demise of the Neo-Con Dictatorship; David Hernandez for picking up the Prop R lawsuit; the luck which has kept us safe in spite of none of the 911 Commission recommendations being enacted - therefore leaving the Port and LAX in tact; the cooling of the housing market which has put paranoia in the hearts of the developers; the many local activists who work selflessly in behalf of our communities; those who operate off of logic and reason before jumping off the deep end; the beginnings of exposure of the corrupt and greedy who control government at most levels; the cool weather for this turkey day; and the opportunity to be thankful here, there, and everywhere!

7:36 You sound as if you know AV. Why would Castro air AV's dirty laundry?

I'm thankful for the following:
1. Neighborhood Councils who had the guts to stand up for what they believed was an unfair, deceiving measure Prop R on the ballot.
2. Thankful for talk show hosts John & Ken KFI. Because of their perserverance made clowncil members and our midget mayor take another look at their stupidity in giving a con man $2.7 million
3. Thankful Rocky has egg all over his face
4. LA Slimes reported Maxine and Naji two of the biggest idiots in this city had to get restraining orders on eachother.
5. Thankful Walter, Mayor Sam and Councilman John give us great topics to discuss and a place to voice our opinion.
6. Thankful Zuma Dogg is not posting any longer
7. Will be thankful when Matt Dowd and Michael Hunt stop acting like sissies and behave like real men and get a damn JOB.

Did that post keep you awake all night? Castro, first and foremost, thinks of himself as a journalist - Pulitzer Prizes aren't given just to anyone. If he sees a story, he'll write it. Although Roderick claims that Castro wrote a glowing piece about Pacheco - (which one are you talking about?) - Castro also slammed Pacheco because he thought he had some credible information, which was probably fed by the Skelton slime machine. But despite all the rants about Pacheco and his "corrrupt" reputation - nothing is there. No proof, no evidence, no guilt - despite being one of the most investigated office holders in recent memory. It is very clear now after three years of Tony the Liar and Huizar that Nick was a very good councilman. If Castro wrote a glowing article about Pacheco, it was to make amends for his slams against him.
Now Tony the Liar is a different story. There are witnesses, there is proof, there is guilt. Castro has written his share of glowing articles about Tony also, now he is just making amends because like the rest of L.A. he was suckered by Skelton's PR machine. And now Skelton slams Castro through Roderick, wait to see what comes out next. Castro already had enough motivation and it is called the TRUTH.
There are plenty of stories out there on Tony the Liar, and all it takes is for one victim to come forward before Skelton's wall of lies comes tumbling down.
Latinos can put up with liars, God knows they have done this repeatedly in the past - Mike Hernandez, Richard Alatorre, Richard Polanco, Richard Alarcon - the list goes on and on. But what they won't tolerate is someone sliming their own family with lies just to get ahead. And what's worse, having an outsider like Skelton direct this campaign of half truths and lies just because they would make a good campaign brochure. Family with Latinos is sacred and we should all remember that Tony the Liars first campaign brochure for mayor started with the phrase: "My father was an alcoholic..." Parke, we keep our dirty laundry in, we don't air it out with a 10 million dollar campaign - just ask around.
This statement on his father doesn't tell the whole truth because although Antonio Sr. had the occasional drink - like the vast majority of working men and women in East L.A., the alcoholic in this family was someone else. Alcoholism is a disease and should be treated as such, not used as some kind of campaign fodder, Rush Limbaugh can attest to this. I'm sure Natalia would agree, she was an honorable woman.
Tony Castro may have his faults and shady history, but he is a professional. And sooner or later the truth will drive any story. And the trip isn't over yet. Tony the Liar will be out of office and disgraced within five years. And there's nothing Skelton can do about that. When there is no one left to slime all you have is the truth and the truth is not on Tony the Liars side!

His lies are horrendous.

WALTER, DO YOU BELIEVE EVERYTHING THE LA TIMES WRITES? CHECK OUT THE FACTS ON THIS ONE YOURSELF, AND REPORT BACK TO US. THE MELLINGER CASE DID MAKE IT TO TRIAL. TELL US THE OUTCOME OF THAT, AND WHY THE COUNCIL DECIDED TO SETTLE.
