Bob Hope Airport Parking Rates Increase
What would Bob Hope say?
The Transit Coalition reports that parking at Burbank Airport is getting more expensive. The airport has raised the price of most of their lots from a very affordable $7 to $9 and as much as $11 a day. In 2002, rates were dropped when air travel plummeted and a private lot opened up next to the airport. Last year, the airport purchased the private lot and now holding a monopoly, the first thing the airport does is jack up the price.
There are a few private spots for parking such as the Burbank Hilton which provides a shuttle, however the most convenient lots are now under airport control.
Competition was a good thing that forced the price of parking down, but its now a thing of the past, and you get to pay.
I honestly don't think the government needs to be in the parking business, but then this old, dead Republican mayor doesn't think government should own airports either. I bet that made some of you red diaper doper babies make a sissy in your pants, ehh?

I just noticed this, too. Totally sucks. I hate Burbank. Love the airport, or at least used to, but the city sucks. No soul.

Don't you want Tom Bradley? Don't you want Tom, OH!

Burbank is much less convenient than it should be.
They should take a closely look at how smoothly things work at Long Beach.

Senor Mayor Sam,
What happened to Marting Ludlow? Did he go to the airport or is he in trouble with the FEDS?

Hey right-wing crybaby:
Government is going to own airports and other infrastructure, so deal with it. Airports operate as quasi-monopoly entities and if they were private there would be no need for competitive pricing, quality service, expensive safety and security measures, or other benefits from a true free market system. All that 9-11 security you righties are whining about? In a privately owned airport, forget it. It's just too expensive and the airlines (private entities) hate it. You're gonna have to live with the fact the government does some things better than the private sector (and I work in the private sector), so suck it up! If you don't like it, then next time drive to Vegas instead of flying.

Samuel, your post is so conter-productive. Instead of whining about parking rates, why don't you delve into how inaccessible Burbank airport is if you don't own a car.

You're right but being a tad unrealistic. The private sector knows better than to get into things like airports (since there are no real profits or other benefits to intice ownership). However good citizens can demand government make airports accessible by means other than auto. There ought to be rapid rail transit into all airports, for example, in L.A. Since we can't build any more freeways in LA, why not concentrate on making the City work with good transit systems. Yeah, I know, too many government hacks to make that happen. But the citizens need to make the pols do the right thing.
Keep up the blog. An LA voice from anyplace but the left is a breath of fresh air.
