The Battle of LAUSD

Full Disclosure Network is out with it's latest 7 minute video blog highlighting financial operations at LAUSD and a summary of the major players in the battle over LAUSD governance.

Yet again, they provide valuable insight into the quagmire that is LAUSD

This group's self-rightous crusade for "full disclosure" is baseless and without merit. For example, to use an interview from a procesutor who admits to never seeing evidence, but makes claims based on second-hand information only proves my point.

Furthermore, when the dust settles on this undemocratic, facist power play by an unproven Mayor, an ego-centric controller and a dysfucntional City Council, the voiceless children of the former LAUSD will find themselves in the same position they're in today; unskilled, hopeless, jobless, and jailed in either pysical or mental prisions. Perhpas when our self-congratulatory Mayor becomes Governor he can take it over again with the same shamelss and selfish tactics he did as Mayor.

The previous post said "This group's self-rightous crusade for 'ull disclosure' is baseless and without merit" but did not identify the group????

I watched that video and there was no reference to any particular "group" demanding full disclsoure. However, the video does show that GOP Assemblyman Keith Richman, the Democratic Mayor and his buddies from Sacramento, plus the City Controller Laura Chick are all involved. That would seem to indicate the concerns with LAUSD are much broader that just disgruntled "group". Looks like a serious movement to me and that people are jumping on the band wagon.

Quagmire is the word.

All credit to MAV for surfacing the untouchable issue of the graduation rate. When we tried to do this as parents, several years ago, we caught so much flak you wouldn't believe it.

Question people's motivations all you want, anything which casts light on these horrible and unsustainable statistics is all to the good.

1) The group being referred to is "fulldiscloure.net"...I thought that was obvisous;

2)I've lost hope in our form of civic government as a solution to this city's problems because it's driven by greed and power, not by improving and advancing its citizens - what else is new. Talk is cheap and so far that's all the Mayor has to offer;

3)As for the bandwagon, you got that right. LAUSD is the great punching bag for elected officials looking to get their name in the paper or another job. If it wasn't for LAUSD to kick around, this would be a boring town. Just because a bunch of policital hacks join in on the attack doesn't mean anything...LAUSD is a hot issue and if you're going to run for an office which only a fraction of the electorate care about, why not talk about something the press is writing about?

4)Personal motivations of politicans can certainly bring out the ugly side of government which can be to the greater good of the public. However, one must still question motives; ends don't always justify the means.

5) Finally, whether Laura Chick actually conducts an audit is irrelevent; she's already drawn her conclusions. The real question is how the result will truly improve public education and why Mayoral control is better than an elected Board of Education? This case has not been made and using New York and Chicago as examples is like comparing apples to oranges.

Okay...I'm done ranting...Happy New Year! :)

I question Laura Chick’s motive in auditing LAUSD…she is absolutely wrong questioning another public agency policies and procedures. Would it be acceptable for the County of Los Angeles to audit the City of Los Angeles…what kind of tone are we setting here? I am certain that the City has plenty of internal problems of their own, than to waste an abundant amount of money auditing the District. Will the audit improve test scores? Laura Chick should audit the UTLA and investigate why there are so many incompetent feeble minded teachers teaching! I guess she is trying to secure a future position in Sacramento.
