The horses are in the gates........
.................but there’s still 4 years till the running
Two cable television gurus are already rumored to be in pursuit of a seat on the Los Angeles City Council. Deane Leavenworth, V.P. of Government and Media relations for Time Warner Cable, and Coby King, attorney and known host of “Local Edition,” on Adelphia cable, are both said to be publicly laying out plans to run for the Third Council District seat when it becomes vacated by Dennis Zine in 4 years – yes in FOUR YEARS.
Leavenworth is tight with both Zine and was a former staffer to Controller Laura Chick – endorsements that could prove to be very important.
King is the head of appropriately named “Coby King Communications,” and has a long track record as an attorney and as an activist for the Los Angeles Democratic Party in addition to his personal ties to former Mayor Riordan, former Councilwoman Ruth Galanter and Congressman Brad Sherman.
Let’s hope that King is saner than the folks over at Adelphia, who have posted the most ridiculous web poll (topic Gray Davis) that I have seen in a really long time. It makes me hope that the Time Warner folks move in soon, real soon.

Yawn. Coby seems like a good guy who found happiness after being an attorney for very short while.

Is that the same district where the an "All-American City" Award was granted?
Anonymous said:
err, the "All American City"..
Anonymous said:
All America City...and yes

Let's not forget the other possible contenders including Frank Bush (Building & Safety), Joyce Pearson (Woodland Hills NC), Jeff Bornstein (he ran last time against Dennis), Bob Blumenfield (Berman District Director), and others who will eventually come out.
Mayor Sam, Chief Parker, Mayor Frank or Betts...how about a post about today's Daily News article where Councilman Greig Smith threatens a defamation suit against Jim Alger...now that is pure comedy and will surely garner many posts.

Jeff Bornstein will rise again!

My poll of CD3 residents (sample size: 1) found 100% in support of Deane Leavenworth.

Those are very bland. Do your homework on other potentials, add some flavor.
Anonymous said:
I wish i could add some flavor but that's what we have so far...do you have names you wish to share? Maybe some people that should run or who are considering a run for CD 3?
Anonymous said:
I've worked with both Coby and Deane. They are both nice guys who will make this an interesting race if they go up against each other!
Anonymous said:
coby is a carpetbagger. if Coby wants to be an elected official so bad, why doesn't he run in his own area?
That's the problem with politricks, all the wrong people are eager to run and those are good, are not inspired to run. The same for Blumenfield, he's just 'waiting in the wings.." bouncing around.
In the end, the community loses.

Coby has been the catalyst for actual action not words on many items in that district. Looking at the rest of the council, he'd be a huge step up!
Anonymous said:
Considering the present Council and the bullShit delaying of the Sunshine Cyn Landfill I would agree with him being a step up. But really?????does that justify carpet bagging. I have to question why any carpet bagger would not want to represent their district. It sounds to me like some folks just want to be elected and do not care where it is. Go home and run there carpet baggers. GO HOME GO HOME GO HOME GO HOME GO HOME

It sounds like Deane and Jeff are the only two who actually grew up in the neighborhood.
Anonymous said:
My understanding is that Deane doesn't even live in CD 3...i could be wrong though.
But even if that was the the case Coby lived but a mile outside of Zine's district anyways. So your "carpet bagging" argument is utter BS. If you want to describe a carpet bagger give me a case where someone from Montebello moves to Woodland Hills....not a couple miles. Good try though

Jeff Bornstein would be the worst thing for CD 3. He only got those votes because of his last name and illegal signs.

Coby isn't homegrown. people like him undermine the talent pool that exist in the area. like i said earlier, the people who should run, don't want to run or even consider it. it's these other fools that are so eager to run that don't bring any improvements to the area. deane atleast is homegrown. that other guy is a migrant.

Pol based migrants go home!

Coby King moved to Woodland Hills over a year ago. Why is he a carpte bagger?
And CD3 will be the least of the concern in the BFI/Sunhine Canyon scandal.
I will find it interesting to watch those votes next time.

Actually CD 3 is a big player in the Sunshine vote. Its in the valley and the dump is a regional concern as outlined by a recent county study. And politically speaking all valley councilmembers will have to vote a no vote to ensure their political survival which is why people are so concerned about Padilla pushing out the vote till next month. He had the votes and just could not find it in his heart to call the vote. Shame on you.

Well who are these other people that should run? Loser neighborhood council leaders?

"Well who are these other people that should run? Loser neighborhood council leaders"
Are these the same community and council leaders that delivered the first All America Award to Los Angeles?
Anonymous said:
No not those folks. I should be folks with a strong community background. Some one focused one issues and proven leadership skills. The problem with CD 3 is there is no farm for leadership let alone political leadership. Take a look in other districts. In some cases its good candidates are folks that come from some non profits and/or driven by a certain issue and passion. Take for example Ludlow who came from labor, Bass from the Community Coalition, Zine from the PPL, Padilla a community activist, Nunez a labor leader, Richman a doctor/healthcare, Montanez a small city mayor, Fyre a enviromentalist, Westly a successful businessman etc etc etc.
I may not like some of these leaders but the point is lets get serious about candidates. I am sure as the date gets closer tens of people will emerge.
Good luck to all those who want to represent CD 3 and I hope whoever wins really wants to improve your community and not just want to shine in the spotlight and take great photo ops.
Hoping to improve public service, I remain honest to my thoughts.

Padilla a community activist?
Get real. He was handpicked. Not even the first choice, but the last minute choice. The rest is history.
Anonymous said:
Well I will still remain honest to my thoughts and remind you he still somehow became the City Council President. Not to shabby.
Anonymous said:
Frank Bush is one of thee only possible candidates that has spent his entire life in CD # 03. He is continually working on and off the job to make the community better!
Anonymous said:
GO FRANK GO ! ! ! !
WE NEED YOU!
Anonymous said:
Neither one could get me a DVR, so I am going with Bornstein.
Anonymous said:
What the heck is a DVR?
Do you even know?
Anonymous said:
Bornstein is a clown! He has no clue about the problems in the community. During his campaign he created blight in the community during his campaign by illegally posting signs throughout CD 3. That basically should that he does not care. He did not remove after the City ordered him to...... he just does not care!
Anonymous said:
I see Bornstein is running for office again, this time for controller. Is he still a "clown"?
