Late Wednesday afternoon the Independent Expenditure Group suspiciously calling itself “Valley Families For Nury Martinez” finally revealed its sources of funding. One of the major funders of the pro-Nury campaign is Spiegel Development none other than the owners of the Sun Valley City Council district office currently rented at taxpayer's expense by Nury Martinez.
"It is beyond unethical that Nury Martinez is funneling our tax dollars to a major donor that has contributed tens of thousands of dollars to fund her negative campaigns," said Cindy Montanez.
The Sun Valley district office in question is located at 9300 Laurel Canyon Blvd., Sun Valley, CA 91331. The listed owner for the property is SC and JB investments LLC of 22801 Ventura Blvd. #111 Woodland Hills, CA 91364 whose President is Suzanne Courtney, the wife of David Speigel.
“This is a clear conflict of interest, Nury must either vacate her premises or publicly demand her landlord to stop using city monies to fund a political campaign on her behalf,” said consultant Eric Hacopian.
Speigel Development who is also a major developer in the San Fernando Valley also spent $15,000 in funding another Independent Expenditure in support of Nury Martinez in her 2013 race against Cindy Montañez.

What a crook
ReplyDeleteIsn't Nury's office in the same building where Cardenas, Padilla, and Bocanegra all had their offices? This developer has some serious pockets!
ReplyDeleteNury and the rest of the clan make Ron Calderon look like an idiot for not doing a better job of exploiting his authority.
Where's the City Attorney, the DA, and the federal prosecutor? Where's the LA Times and the Daily News?
That Nury has a hard face to take; but when she speaks, it's even worse. Is this the best we can shit out?
ReplyDeleteI believe Cardenas has since moved out of that office as of course has Padilla. I think Patty Lopez is in there but simply because she inherited from Bocanegra, having been sworn in one day after her election was finally certified. I don't know if Hertzberg plans to be in there or what he is doing in terms of offices but I assume his primary office will be in Sherman Oaks.

No it's not, Zuma Dogg! She talks a good game of being for the poor, etc. but look at her donors.
ReplyDeleteThe same thing is going on in the tiny city of San Fernando. These elections have brought out the worst in city politics with a powerful developer (Sev Aszkenazy) who stands to lose millions with his cracker jack section 8 projects going up all over the city. He plays golf with Councilman Antonio Lopez. In turn Antonio Lopez approves all of his low income and section 8 housing projects without any objection. Sev has now given cash handouts to Antonio for his campaign and allowed him to put banners up all over his properties. He has even used the local paper (San Fernando Sun) which he owns to smear the other candidates and gives free ad space to Antonio. Citizens are now starting to wake up and ask for their cities back. Back from the hands of rich developers.
