Morning Briefs on the Los Angeles Political Machine for Tuesday

In the latest installment of "Park's Place", the reigning Los Angeles City Council Member of Reason, bemoans the continuing efforts to change the timing of City Elections.

Out-going CD 8 City Councilman Bernard Parks formerly solitary crusade against changing the timing of City Elections, is picking up support from an unexpected political base.

A Strange Political Bedfellows Coalition that needs to grow, why?

Try envisioning the Special Interest-enabling "Political Soul Brothers Duo" of City Clowncil Central Committee Strongman Herman "Mini Amin" Wesson and CD 14 City Clowncilman Jose "The Tonto Huevon" Huizar, being the recipients of an additional six year term within the Horseshoe, if re-elected in 2015 ........, and with the electorate passing Charter Amendment 1 & 2.

The solitary thought of "Thelma Huizar & Louise Wesson" getting a two year extension on their last term in office, suffices enough for this blogger to vote No on the efforts of the Political Machine to merge the Ciudad de Los Angeles Municipal Election Proceeding with the even years State and Federal Balloting.

But for the diverse cast that is Councilman Parks and the Northeast LA Progressives, which includes the likes of Hans Johnson and Hector Huezo, the proponents arguments that merging the Municipal Elections with the State and Federal Contests, will stimulate greater voter turnout and improve the choices of quality candidates, is a thinly-veiled façade, that masks a power grab by the reigning Special Interests, to further marginalize the LA Election Process.

In addition to gifting the winners of the even-number Clowncil Districts with two additional years to hoard Discretionary Funds for vote buying (after all, incumbent patronage is the tool that drives voter turnout in desired areas), the merging of elections will only serve to empower the Special Interests (with Labor/Progressives on the Left and Free Market/ Business Groups on the Right) to create "Mega-Coalition Slates", that will drastically, marginalize endemic, community-based issues.

Thus, in the interest of preserving Los Angeles endemic balloting proceedings (and the ability to use the election process to stimulate dialog on specific community issues), Angelinos of all political persuasions, need to join with Councilman Parks and the Northeast LA Progressives, in defeating Charter Amendment 1 & 2.
