Morning Briefs on the Los Angeles Political Machine for Monday
Political Baggage (and ex female staffers) weighing down on CD 14 City Councilman Jose Huizar?
Not even the Celebration of El Grito can bring a smile to Councilman Huizar. Photo via Mayor Eric Garcetti Facebook Page.
Great Monday to all as we start another blogging work week and with no further delay, we ask for a cyber moment of understanding on behalf of CD 14 City Councilman ( and BTW, Cal/ Princeton Graduate) Jose Huizar.
As one can discern from the photo above, smiles are fleeting for Councilman Huizar, even as his colleagues enjoy last night's El Grito's festivities. ( ** Plus, it would be hard to smile considering that you endorsed the opponents of now City Attorney Mike Feuer, Mayor Eric Garcetti, CD 9 City Councilman Curren Price and CD 1 City Councilman Gil Cedillo).
Judging from the far away gaze of the Princeton Graduate, his thoughts are fixated elsewhere as LA Times David Zahniser reported late Friday afternoon ...........
The committee charged with investigating discrimination complaints against elected officials at Los Angeles City Hall met Friday to begin its review of sexual harassment allegations filed against City Councilman Jose Huizar.
The Special Committee on Investigative Oversight gathered behind closed doors to deal with the complaint lodged three months ago by Francine Godoy, 34, a former deputy chief of staff to Huizar. Godoy worked until April for Huizar, who represents El Sereno, Boyle Heights, Eagle Rock and downtown.
Godoy said in her complaint that she experienced harassment, discrimination and retaliation because of her “refusal to engage in sex” while working in the council office.
The committee is comprised of two academics -- UCLA Vice Provost Christine Littleton, a law professor whose research specialty is feminist legal theory, and Loyola Law School professor Michael Waterstone, an expert on disability and civil rights law; two retired Superior Court judges -- Robert H. London and Sara Kleban-Radin; and Alan Stamm, who represents the American Arbitration Assn.
But while Councilman Huizar is prepping his defense against the allegations of Godoy, another ex female staffer resurfaces, none other than former Chief of Staff Ana Cubas ( please muffle your fright-inspired screams).
Noooooo! Its Ana!
Since her trouncing by now CD 9 City Councilman Curren Price, Cubas has gone to ground, but rest assure CD 9 constituents, for Cubas wants to get "intimate with you".
