Could Cedillo's Ego Derail Perez's Agenda?
One Bill Gil Kicks Back
Who would’ve ever thought that One-Bill-Gil would become the best Christmas gift for the California Republican Party.
Now before your head explodes in disbelief let me explain what I mean.
Yesterday the Capitol Weekly’s twitter said: “
“Sen. Gil Cedillo says he will run against Perez for Assembly in 2010, whether or not Perez is elected speaker.” (http://www.capitolweekly.net/)
Now seeing two lefties go after each other in an expensive no-holds-barred primary battle royal is always exciting for political junkies who are much more to the right to witness.
Gil Cedillo has already served in the Assembly but term limits magic means he is allowed to serve one more term in the Assembly so why not run against an incumbent who supported Judy Chu for Congress – makes perfect sense to me.
Except here is the rub for the Democrats and something Republicans should celebrate.
The Speaker is in charge of ensuring all assembly Democrats get re-elected and that Democrats get elected in districts currently held by Republicans.
Usually the first few months of a new Speaker’s term (before he/she has had a chance to piss off people) is when they are able to raise the most money for their party coffers.
But if Senator Cedillo decides to run in the June primary against John Perez, then most if not all that new money will be spent to keep the Speaker in his seat.
AD’s 26, 30, 36 and 37 all came up short of Democratic victories but that had more to do with funding factors than the Republicans running better races. So if Speaker Perez wants to capture a 2/3rd Democratic majority to push a "progressive" agenda they only need to win 3 out of 4 of those seats.
But here comes Senator Cedillo – making Perez spend all that cash that would usually go to swing districts - and making the Democrats come up short in what many are saying will be a good year for Republicans.
So if he runs, the liberals could blame Cedillo’s campaign for Assembly for derailing Perez's plans for further social spending and other items on the Democratic agenda.
John Perez would need the 2/3rd majority to implement a new report that just came out today by the Tax Reform Association which claims that all the Legislature needs to do is close some tax loopholes to close a $20 Billion dollar budget deficit. That’s $20 billion to pour money into all those categories listed above that is part of a progressive agenda.
The Republicans just might want to buy some nice Christmas presents for Senator Cedillo.

Great analysis!
No one in the state has made this connection yet.
The California Republican Party will be thanking Cedillo for thwarting a more progressive california that invests in K-12, Higher education, Child care, and Healthy Families healthy insurance for little kids.
Yes Cedillo will have a direct impact in choking all of those programs by challenging Perez.
Its like Cedillo is hand delivering a lump of coal to every democrat in the state.
Thanks Gil, nice legacy you are leaving us.

9:21PM, you forgot investments in pensions. Probably you are of those sucking the pension tit and working for Maria Elena Durazo. Get lost.

"Before your head explodes" Higby says... for a minute there I thought it was one of Wet Spot's - my head always explodes when he "writes."
I think it's likely that Cedillo hates Tony V enough that he'd run against his cousin just to spite him and to keep Perez from ramming through some of Tony V's agenda and trying to revive his politcal career. Tony has that effect on people, when they give him their loyalty and he screws them over.
But why is there no other contender but the same Mexicans? What about a moderate Democrat?

Senor Cedillo's "Machismo" says Go Gil Go!

Your all wrong, Gil needs a job. Three options: run for assembly like he and John agreed on (John go to gild senate seat) or wait a year and run for CD14 against loser, I mean joser. Or, get a private sector job. If he fucks AV along the way on any of these three choices is just a plus.

By the way, I hear Huizar took BOTH of his wivies (Francine & Richelle) to Mexico with him to AV's book fair. Or...... Was one of them for AV?

I love how no matter how much people want to stop the Mayor.
He gets his only family member into the Speakership job for the next 5 years.
Personally i think this is all awesome, and if the haters on this blog actually do get angry a little bit more all the better.
AND if Gil decides to run for assembly and I get to help crush his career once and for, even better.
Wow, pissing off haters on this blog and ruining Cedillo's career.
Its christmas come 3 weeks early!

Wer've crushed One Bill Gil before and we can do it again; his hate for Antonio is palpable.
What a fool; and what a terrible, ineffective legislator he is.
Gil Cedillo is going to fall of his own weight. He is a born loser.

I'd be for somewhat giving the little twit and his fat gay cousin a stop sign but One Bill Gil, whose one bill was to give illegals driving licenses because it's unfair to deprive them of the 'right' to drive after they come here illegally and allegedly, can't take the bus? AV is no better on the illegal situation, telling the Mexicans in Mexico this week that we should just open our borders and "emphasize our similarities not our differences."
Tweedle-dee or DUM on the Mexican left, or rightwing nuts on the right. What a choice.

Cedillo is clinging to the last remainding shred of hope for prolonging an adventure to the unemployment office by trying to get back into a district he left and trying to do so at the expense of the guy who out maneuvered his District Director to get the Assembly seat.
Just like he used a racist campaign against Chu, do you think that he would be campaigning on the homophobic fears in the Latino community to come through with a win against Perez? Cedillo is desperate enough to do so. Let's not forget who he has on staff - Mario "I want to do hookers doggystyle in a dirty downtown hotel and hook my friends up with city contracts" Beltran.
Should be a fun race to watch.

7:01, "we're going to crush him again" about One Bill Gil, but you start by complaining "his hatred for Antonio is palpable." See a connection here?
I see the same threats coming from supports of Chris Essel toward those who've opposed her.
Can't decide if that's a sign of Antonio's vindictiveness or Nuch's, who's even worse and more open about it like with Chick and Fred Woocher. They seem to have the same disorder that's the other side of narcissism and lack of empathy. Why do we as a city fall for such energetic dumbbells who can't string a sentence together on their own without embarrassing themselves? They both need to butt out of L A politics, Nuch back to Long Beach before his indulgences and anger issues kill him, and no way do we want Antonio senator to push for open border to south America.

The real issue for John, is whether he stands with his majority latino against gay marriage. the churches throughtout his district will do john in the next time around since his sexual preference is being blasted throught the media. I have no problem personally with john, but this is not the time to cry foul. The reason Obama is president he turn being a blackman into a positive and voters respected his decision to deal with the issue correctly. So, I say Gil you go wild boy.... it time you doing a little AV f_cking instead of s_cking.

Cedillo supports the rights of gays to marry, so that's a mute point.
Cedillo is a hasbeen and needs to ride into the sunset with his head up high and call it a day. If not, he'll come out from all of this with his legacy tainted even more so.

WTF is wrong with you 12:07??? Apparently you've been in a coma this whole past year when Perez went on TV opposing Prop 8 and no one commented against it. You're homophobia wreaks of Cedillo camp! Get over it! Stop the gay baiting!
