Firefighters Endorse Paul Krekorian
CD2 candidate Paul Krekorian announced Thursday he's received the endorsement of The United Firefighters of Los Angeles City, which represent LAFD firefighters. "Paul Krekorian has consistently proven himself an honest and hard working public servant with a clear and proven track record of devotion to public safety." said Pat McOsker, President of UFLAC Local 112.
It has been reported the Krekorian's opponent Chris Essel has received the endorsement of former CD2 Councilmember Wendy Greuel. However the union endorsements bring money, resources and staff; politician endorsements usually just bring heartache.

I can hardly wait to see the mailers showing a little girl with smudges on her face holding a scared little dog . Firefighter in full regalia standing behind her with a serious look. "We Firefighters support our buddy Paul. Every other candidate wants this little girl to be burned to a crisp."

With the Los Angeles Fire Department coming out in force at city hall yesterday to protest cuts in their budget, this demonstrates an inability to think through the problem. Less money for Los Angeles from Sacramento means less money for their department. Of the candidates in the CD2 race, only one played a major role in bringing about the financial crisis Kalifornia finds itself faced with.
Think it through folks and stop playing political poker. Paul will not be successful in CD2 but that does not matter as he will still be in Sacramento and the unions as well as other special interests know this. It is just a matter of pay now or pay latter.
This is one reason those in elected office should finish what they started before running for another office. Not only does it create an additional expense for the tax payers with the need for Special Elections, but it also alows them to strong arm special f interestfor money and endorsements as even if they lose they will still be in a position to make thier life miserable.
This is an implied consequence and need not be spelled out.
Why would a highly placed Democrat Assemblymember - the majority whip nonetheless - drop a seat to which he was just elected and run for an area that he is only marginally a part of?
So that he can then drop CD2 and run for Mayor.
So that he can then be put up for governor.
Needless to say, the reason Krekorian would not address anything specifically or make any promises to the community at Tuesday's forum is because he couldn't give a rats ass about CD2. Except to use it, that it.

in any city race the only two endorsements that really matter are COPS and firefighters.

I am from S/T and I am for Mary Benson. But to be honest i think you should direct your hate some place else. Paul is not my cut of tea but he is a decent guy.
The one to hate is the AV/AEG candidate Chris Essel.
I could almost feel the contempt she had for the resident of S/T by how uncomfortable she looked.
Vote for Benson and if not, then any one but Essel.

9:39, first of all, Krekorian is the assistant majority leader, not the whip. The whip is Fiona Ma.
Second of all, you could say the same thing about Tamar. She’s been on the school board just over two years, not even a full term, and now she’s leaving school board to run for Council? Does she care about the kids in her district or herself?
Who stands to gain more: Tamar or Paul? Let’s see, state assembly pays more than school board, so Tamar would see a larger salary increase. Paul is in an assembly leadership position, Tamar is a school board newbie, so who would gain more status by jumping to city council? Tamar. Perhaps CD 2 is just a stepping stone for HER, maybe she wants to run for mayor and governor.
I’m not saying she does or doesn’t want to run for those seats and I’m sure she cares about kids. All I’m saying is before one makes a claim like that about a candidate they should consider the same question for other candidates.
At least Paul and Tamar seem to care about the Valley. In the past 25 years, Essel’s only seen CD 2 in photos.
The dems stand to gain a good gubernatorial candidate (in their eyes) in Krekorian if he is Mayor of Los Angeles and does an even halfway decent job, unlike Villaraigosa.
Tamar Galatzan is not governor material.

By the way, the firefighters all live in Newhall, Palmdale, Lancaster and Santa Clarita.

Krekorian is indeed a carpetbagger. There is no way he came to CD 2 out of pure good will for the people who live there. I doubt its for the buck$ either.

Essel has some great ethics! If you hear what she is actually talking about she is all about jobs, the environment and truly representing the district fully. On the other hand, awkward Tamar is truly misplaced in politics and Krekorian's campaign manager is Areen Ibranossian, who for those of you who don't know was the Mayor's reelection campaign manager!

Essel has said that she doesn't want to run for any other office. I believe her. Seriously. She already had an incredible career in the industry and could easily take another private sector job but she has chosen to run for the public sector because she wants to represent CD2 effectively and fully. That rocks! Definitely an inspiration for my daughter and me!
oh Essel is soooo altruistic, she wants to run for city council and nothing else. Save it. She's running becuase she got laid off from paramount, CD 2 happened to be open, Wendy's her bff, and of course, she's a women, which automatically means we should all support her.
She wants to represent CD 2? Unlikely! She wants to represent paramount, AEG, and the other downtown interests who so generously lavished her with campaign funds. Essel can't even find her way around CD 2. She should just wait till Jan Perry terms out in 2013 and run in that district.
