Open Thread for Friday
LAFD Chief Barry resigned/retired yesterday, effective this August. My question, why? Not the canned reason given to the press, but the real reason he is stepping down.
I run into firefighters on duty every now and then in my travels. I've recently noted that LAFD seems to be more like LAPD nowadays. The 'cliquish', 'clanish', and 'spooky' on-the-job behavior that some have used to characterize LAPD is manifesting itself more and more in the City's fire department. I talked myself out of it after the first few odd encounters, but as I've experienced more strange moments with LAFD personnel I cannot talk myself out of it any longer. Seems like there is something definitely major going on within the department, and it is negatively impacting the personnel. It must be big, too, if a mere public person like myself is running into the symptoms.
Chief Barry was hired ostensibly to clean up hazing and discrimination within the department. How did he pursue this in practice? We'd love to hear from any of you in the department. Or from anyone else who has something on their minds.
Take it away, dum dums (typed with the utmost respect for our readers... well, most of you anyway.)

I posted this on this blog yesterday. You are copying my idea. I discovered it (on the Times' web site). You are stealing my ideas! You are a thief! You are not crediting me for this!
If this excuse is good enough for zuma dogg, then it's good enough for me. Sounds pretty stupid when you see it in this context, right? It's no less stupid than when Zuma Dogg does it every day of the year.

The reason he "resigned" is because there was pressure from his union to go to the mayor to ask for more resources because they are getting hammered out there during rescue missions like extractions.
A few months ago The chief was heard telling his union, "I told the mayor I wouldn't ask him for anything else."
So once again you have a situation of someone stepping down because the mayor is a political thug.

9:14, why are you so obsessed with Zuma? Mayor Sam? Geeze, dude - get a grip.

Petra Fried,
Thanks for starting this thread, as it always interests me to see and hear how residents of Los Angeles feel about their Fire Department.

Tony Villar wanted a Black LAFD Chief and he got one. Typical PC bullshit

I just want to make it clear I highly respect both LAPD and LAFD and the job that they do.
I think most people are used to LAPD culture for the most part. For better or for worse I kind of get it, as much as an outsider can or should.
It is odd, though, when another department seems to be taking on a different culture that is perhaps not in its best interest. The change is symptomatic of something.

9:14, I give you credit for posting something first. Feel better?

ZUMA DOGG IS STEALING MY IDEAS!
HE IS NOT ALLOWED TO ADD ANYTHING TO MY ORIGINAL THOUGHT! THAT'S STEALING! HE'S BOGARTING MY IDEA.
So, dope, if you still don't understand, I am PARODYING Zuma Dogg's response every time someone comments on an issue that he has posted about. He is always trying to say that he is the first person on a subject, and claiming some sort of stupid positioning of himself as a zen master.
SO WHEN I WRITE LIKE THIS AND SAY THAT HE IS STEALING MY IDEAS, I AM SHOWING HOW IDIOTIC IT IS WHEN HE DOES THE SAME THING. LET ME KNOW IF YOU STILL ARE TOO MUCH OF A "LOSER CRYBABY" (AS ZUMA DOGG ALWAYS SAYS) AND I WILL RE EXPLAIN IT AGAIN!

Please explain it again.
We didn't get it the first 50 times.

You believe that. But you're really showing how idiotic you are.

EXCUSE ME...Please produce the post or comment where I say anything like that. And all the readers of mayor sam can see you are spinning.
But yeah, I like to rub it in and remind council that I have warned about a lot of the stuff as it is happening and have been right on a lot of the big stuff that matters, when no one else was saying a thing....time and time again...
But that doesn't mean I am saying "stealing ideas" or talk about not getting credit." And people behind the scenes know this. Adk David Z, or Doug M. or so many others. I get mad when ZD is the ONLY one talking about the important stuff.
And I have to remind council of the past predictions so they will pay attention this time. It's called trying to build credibility, and I seem to have more of it than any counciloser or investigated mayor of L.A.
Ask Dion and Garcetti how things worked out when they tried to challenge ZD on a little first amendment issue today.
THEY LOST! I BITCH SLAPPED THEM ALL THE WAY FROM SAN PEDRO! HA! YOU LOSE AGAIN! TELL THE CITY ATTORNEY I WAS LAUGHING AT THEM, AND TOTALLY IGNORED THEIR REQUEST BECAUSE I HAD THE LAW AND THE COPS ON MY SIDE.
Anway, it's a lot of legendariness to carry around in my head, you do nothing, truly anonymous loser.
And again, if THIS spinloser is back, I must be on the radar again. But you are just as inferior now as you ever were.

Oh my goodness, 12:01, I just saw that one...wow...someone just can't take the momentum of Zuma Dogg out there. Excuse me if I am ahead of the curve because I attend all the meetings and talk to people and do all the round the clock blogging, so when something big comes up, I have already addressed it. Sorry you simply cannot take it. But yeah, I'm a true phenomenon. It's mind boggling to me at this point. The degree and level of my specific predictions are beyond my own logic and instincts. I'm not this smart. But I am smart enough to know how to unleash collective conciousness and quantum mechanics that is the only thing I can attribute all this to. It's some pretty high level and complicated stuff we are talking about, with the biggest genius experts coming up with these schemes and scams, and the street performer clown from Venice is schooling your ass, son. I know, it's hard to comprehend. The momentum is indomitable. My analysis is impregnable. The delivery is magnanimous. The by product is triumphantness. Your defeatism is chronic.
Thanks to everyone I meet and speak to throughout the day who make it all happen. I am merely a vehicle, or medium that is allowing myself to channel all the wisdom and spirit. Thank you for the blessing and privileged. It's a lot of weight to carry, but I am trying to honor the gift.

WOW -ZD
That's some pretty elevated stuff.
You should keep on going and try rehab next.
You might find Jesus, or probably several of them, there.

Mayor Villaraigosa: We need more people of color in the LAFD.
LAFD Chief Barry: Yes, that's true.
Mayor Villaraigosa: Diversity is very important.
LAFD Chief Barry: Yes, I agree.
Mayor Villaraigosa: Se habla espanol?
LAFD Chief Barry: Huh?
Mayor Villaraigosa: You're fired.
---> Mr. Humphrey, do want to know how one person of the public feels? Well, the LAFD Chief should never be a political or politically correct appointee.
---> Ms. Fried Brain, understand that almost all civil servants are clique-ish.

Why is it that higby and zuma dogg think that all of their critics are the same person? I have posted a few comments about zd in particular, some good and some bad, and see that others have done the same.
All I know is that zd responds with vulgarity to the bad things, no matter how valid they may be, and always responds like a lovelorn man when it's positive.
The vulgarity is always unwelcome, but it's a sign of immaturity surely. I would expect better at least of higby, but he, too, thinks that my comments and some of the others are those of a stalker or whatever. Also, rather paranoid.

Bullshit...the reason I had to bitch slap those two punks from weiss' office off of this blog is because it is NOT valid criticism. Anyone can post, "Hey Joe Blow, next time you are up for wife beating charges you should wear a blue suit instead of gray." So don't holler that noise around here. And how sad that you were supposed to be working for the White House, but instead of are stuck spinning in a blog comment section, Mr. Big Shot.
