Is Wally getting bounced from Port gig ???

In Wally's mind and world, he is in Sacramento presiding as governor after his crusade to protect the sovereignty of the 310 area code.
But reality can be harsh and may get worse as Los Angeles Councilwoman Janice Hahn and the others members of the "CLOWNCIL OF FIFTEEN" whack back at Mayor Villar.
Now this is interesting, given the perception held by some that Mayor Villaraigosa heads into his second term weaker than before. At today's City Council meeting, Councilwoman Janice Hahn raised questions about the Port of Los Angeles hiring ex-pol Wally Knox into a newly created $205,000-a-year senior job — amid cutbacks and threatened layoffs. Others joined in, and despite a plea by the mayor's office to OK Knox's soft landing, the issue was kicked back to the harbor commission for reworking. Says an LA Observed reader who was monitoring: "Maybe the measly 55% vote for Antonio gave these folks the fortitude to vote against the mayor?"
....and will the "WWG" have the fortitude to withstand the temptation to scribe future Villar puff pieces ??
Can one smell a "lame duck" on Spring Street ??

They just voted to cut hundreds of jobs and other fees, like the NC budgets, so maybe they just wanted to make a stand to look like they were saving money somewhere. On a management salary, Hahn said. Not that it matters in the overall scheme of things, but she, Zine and some of the others seem to be making a big show of looking like they're saving money. Sounds like Wally, who was making a lot more in the private sector, might have just come up at a bad time.

why do you quote from WWG if Higby says he is lying about his pulitzer prize?

either his blog is reputable or its not. according to higby, it's not. so why reprint any of his material?

I'd like an answer from jumbo the blogger on this one.

Only on Mayor Sam's blog is a 55% vote "measly".

Any politician in America is overjoyed to get 55% of any vote.

Red Spot is an amateur...

Wally's background amdexperience are well worth the $200K+.

Those of us who do this kind of work would not be interested in that little; he canonly take it because he has a pension from his prior service in the legislature.

Quit whining about stuff you know nothing about...

Mayor Villaraigosa got 55% of the vote on March 3rd against 9 men (including myself) who were generally UNKNOWN to the voting public. That meant that 45% of the voters were willing to vote for someone they didn't even know over Antonio.

He is not popular and people are not happy with him. If voters had known about the election...(but most didn't because of the low funding of Antonios opponents) .. more voters could have turned out and sent him out of office or at least into a runoff.

There are grumblings of a recall action against Antonio...which would kill his run for Governor in 2010.

Only one problem with the 6AM post. Neither Wally, nor any other legislator gets a pension from service after Prop 140 passed. Maybe it was just a joke comment.

The issue at the Council meeting was not the person but the idea of creating a new job position when they are looking at layoffs of other city people and still in a deficit condition.

The pay is pretty high, prompting a CM, either Rosendahl or LaBonge who said, relevant or not, "That more than I get."

The CMs in their reluctance to rubber stamp the deal at that moment stressed that it was NOT the person they are basing the decision on, but the JOB creation and need for it, along with the level of expense that it adds.

It's probably P.R driven more than any altruistic outpouring by the CMs to save the city, but they should prioritize on this stuff and not spend time like Tues. going on and on on swine flu as if anyone uses the meetings for their medical bulleting updates on how to survive the Swine Flu threat.

It was more like satisfying their own Jr. Med. Expert self-delusions and fears than any real public service. Refunding their pay for those kinds of hours spent would be a better deal for the City budget.

Kind of crummy to put Wally in this position after he already quit his current commission job effective last week or so. Communication problems between mayor and council.

Phil:

What percentage of citizens (registered or not) voted in the primary?

If you take MAV's vote total and divide it by the total number of people in the city, I think the percentage that he actually got was more like 10%.

An unbeatable incumbent only 10% of his constituents to actually vote for him. How pathetic!

Jerry Brown is our next governor!
