Clearing the Field

Sources tell the Sister City that San Fernando Valley Assembly Member and Assistant Majority Leader Paul Krekorian (D-Burbank) will seek the unexpired City Council term of Wendy Greuel who was elected to serve as Los Angeles City Controller effective July 1st.  We are awaiting official confirmation from Krekorian's staff who have not yet responded to our inquiries.
If true, this clearly represents a game changing move in the race to succeed Greuel.  Krekorian would instantly become the front runner and clear much of the current field  The Assembly Member has fought to preserve the entertainment industry in California and would likely have significant support from that sector, a major force in CD2. Recently, he's been working to extend unemployment benefits.  Krekorian, who formerly served on the Burbank School Board, is a well spoken and likable politician who will do very well in the CD2 race, much of which he already represents in the Assembly.

Imagine, we have the very strong possibility of having two members of the City Council who are both named Paul, have the last initial K, served in the State Legislature and started off as elected officials in cities other than Los Angeles.

I just got back from the roast. One of Cindy Montanez's cronies told me that Paul Krekorian was running. I guess Cindy will have to suffer working one day a month for $128,000 a year.

Paul is way too liberal for me.

That being said he's a good guy and a seemingly dedicated legislator and passionate advocate for his views and his constituency.

If I lived in CD2 I would vote for him over any of the people mentioned or rumored to date.

Paul wins.

Freaking musical chairs!

I suppose it makes sense for Paul, who JUST got to the assembly, to look elsewhere. But word was that he had Carol Liu's commitment to leave the Senate after one term, so Paul could run there.

And Paul lives in Burbank. He was BB School Board, remember?

Does Sunland Tujunga really have no candidates who can run, that it needs a (former) San Fernando City Councilmember and a Burbank School Board Member to run for Los Angeles City Council?

Krekorian lived in this district for years and used to work for the Assemblyman Tom Bane. If he runs, Galatzan will support him, but some of the others may not.

It sounds like the fat lady just sang for Cindy and Tamar.

Paul Krekorian is the most popular elected with the active folks in that part of the Valley.

Not hard to understand if you meet him, he comes across as a great guy.

Krackwhorian has no future in sacto and he knows it. Path to the Senate is blocked by Carol Liu and probably by reapportionment. Council makes good sense for him and he's the best poltician around at manipulating absentee ballot process..just ask his last victim Frank Quintero.

7:41,

>> Does Sunland Tujunga really have no candidates who can run <<

Indeed they do! As Joseph Mailander mentioned yesterday at his Street-Hassle blog, Bill Robertson, current head of the Bureau of Street Services, is seriously considering a run for the CD2 seat.

Bill is a resident of CD2 and well thought of by the people here. He's well-liked, honest, hard-working, and an effective public official. The Public Administration Review article that Joseph Mailander links to concludes that:

"...Robertson has honed his political skills into an art that holds in dynamic balance both the technical and the political dimensions of public administration. His political behavior appears to be rooted externally in a respect for citizens and a serious commitment to their empowerment....".

Should Bill decide to run, I don't think the "field-clearing" that Paul Krekorian is rumored to be running to accomplish will be the "done deal" that everyone seems to expect. Bill certainly has my vote and that of everyone I've talked to, and that is a group that will not easily be ignored.

Let's hope Paul runs. We don't need the Mayor's stooge Tamar, Alarcon's stooge Cindy, old bureaucrats or NC refugees.

Paul brings the expertise and temperament the Council truly needs.
