Guess which Los Angeles City Council Member was perusing Mayor Sam late on Friday afternoon to see what was on the blogosphere's collective mind?Jack Weiss? Yeah right.
Tom LaBonge? Are you kidding?
But if you guessed Zman, Dennis Zine, you'd be correct.
ZMan responded to our haiku of frustration about the lack of synchronized traffic lights. They don't seem to exist. And if they do, the city is doing nothing to promote them. Isn't that SO Antonio Villaraigosa?
After a long day of meetings and B.S. Friday presentations in City Council, Zine was actually in touch with real L.A. citizens and their serious concerns. ZMan says that if you're crossing the Valley, "Victory Blvd from Topanga Cyn Blvd to North Hollywood" is where you'll find a great strip of synchronized traffic lights.

Zuma Dogg is going to jail.
If the lights are sycronized,,,,I havent seen it.
Is this the same ZMan who decided that he didn't have to conserve water with the rest of us because people expect Councilmembers to have nice lawns, and who said he has to drive a gas-guzzling SUV in order to carry all of his guns?
Zuma, focus on your bermuda shorts... where are they? You have been neglectful - never wearing them. If you go to jail you can not wear them there, you know? It's never too late to go looking for them.
Zine's SUV and/or lawn matters (are you thinking of H. David Nahai, the Iranian waterwaster?) are not the issue.
The issue is that this guy is looking thru MayorSam long after his fellow CMs have gone home, and responded with info that we should put to the test.
You diminish what might be a good point you're trying to make by making up other things.
8:32: You're just not up with the news. Zine was busted by the Times last year for his water-guzzling lawn to "set a good example," and over his car by Beth Barrett at DN this week. You're the one who thinks Nahai is the only water waster around -- at least, he didn't come up with endless stupid "excuses."
Of course, Zine wasn't the only one: Cardenas' gophers and huge extended family were responsible for his water bill, Rocky forgot to pay his bill and turn off sprinklers, and as for cars, Cardenas, Alarcon and Huizar all drive a new 08 hybrid that only gets 26 MPG but has leather seats and all the trimmings, because they pick up street cleaning supplies and go on cleanup jobs. Plus, Alarcon is afraid that if he (and his wife and baby) get stuck sleeping in their car during the next earthquake like he did last time, he wants to make sure it's a more comfortable ride.
Despite all this -- it's too easy to make fun of these excuses, and Zine with his Z-man signed modeled after Superman is a walking cartoon by himself -- the REAL problem is the 1400 OTHER cars assigned to city staffers OUTSIDE City Council, NOT even counting DWP and LAWA and the ports which have hundreds more.

All of you who wish to sail with His Nibbs, signify by saying “Aye!” loudly whenever any Clowncil person, staffer, hanger-on and/or supporter of all things establishment asks you a question that requires a positive response. And all of you who wish to sail synchronized ‘pon the Pearl with the Bald Plated Pirate, signify by saying “savvy?” at the end of a paragraph, savvy?

But everyone has his defenders so you can be Zine's. It doesn't make him any less ridiculous.
The proof in the pudding will be whether any of the other council members provide any other routes by this time tomorrow.
I bet that none of them even respond in a week.
7:29 makes a good point. Zuma dogg names himself after a famous beach, hangs out hassling and haranguing in Venice by the beach, and yet is never seen in Bermuda shorts. He has lately acquired a cheap sombrero which he could use to serenade passersby in Spanish by pretending to be a mariachi, but he has not done so. He devotes his talents to insulting elected officials and wasting our dime. In a sombrero or whatever castoff attire he can find.
When he goes to jail, he will be colorful. Do you think the other inmates will appreciate colorful bermuda shorts and a frayed sombrero? Maybe he can sing to the Latino gangbangers in Spanish. But he thinks he's a white trash black rapper, so there is ethnic identity crisis written all over him. Which gang will claim him as their fool?

1400 cars? This is too much temptation for waste and abuse. We should have a separate statement of the need for EACH and EVERY city car to be assigned for use. Is there a written declaration signed by the users to establish NOTICE of responsibility for misuse?
The track record of the city for accountability already makes me think this is an area ripe for an audit.
One other thought: Comparing levels of waste may show the various amounts committed by assorted individuals, but it still doesn't EXCUSE anyone who is doing it. Finding an example of a HIGH degree of waste doesn't mean that another's case of LESS wastefulness if OK.
BTW, as a comparative matter, ZD does lots more than most people to bring out things that certain people ("politicians") would rather you not hear. I doubt that his critics have done the same or would even try.

Let’s stop all lip service and implement a BEST PRACTICE that will benefit stakeholders (quality of life) and not the developers.
