Westside White Guy Slams Jamiel as Gang Member
Kevin Roderick - the epitome of suburban white mypoia - has decided he can oh so coyly tag hate crime victim, the assassinated Jamiel Shaw as a gang member, part of the liberal effort to take the heat off Special Order 40 that is coming from many corners. In quoting an LA Times story on the preliminary hearing WWG posts:

What Westside White Guy doesn't tell is that 1) Jamiel's parents, friends and relatives have consistently said Jamiel was not a gang member, 2) Police officers, as mentioned in the story, are not convinced Jamiel was a banger and, 3) the judge in the hearing has ruled out the use of any information that paints Jamiel as a gangster.
Maybe this is how you win Pulitzers.

Higby, you're acting awfully stupid, blaming WWG for just posting the LAT article and an overview. All it says is that the defense is trying to make Jamiel out some gang member or with gang ties at least -- that's to be expected, what DA Hanisee had warned. It's like when a girl is raped, the defense tries to make her out a whore and break her down - it sucks, but that's the law, each lawyer has to do their best to discredit the other side.
Of course I agree the killer and the girl who drove the getaway car who "made out with him" at the park right afterwards, are cold-hearted, inhuman killer. (These are the people we're supposed to spend millions on for gang programs, and to get them jobs? Too late -- deport Espinoza, but making sure he won't be back like they do now, like the border's a revolving door.) The rest must be no parole or "social time" with fellow gangmembers.
Gangmembers in general, legal and not, are responsible for 7 of 10 homocides, per the LAPD's own homicide blog. Our city, LAPD and Public Safety Committee and even Rocky's office, have come up with a tough new anti-gang plan, including taking their cars and homes. Must be likely to work, if Alarcon calls it unconstitutional possibly -- like he's opposing the gang injunction in Pacoima.

According to officer Winston Lee of the LAPD, Jamiel had gang inscriptions on his red belt, end of story. Just because you never been to jail does not mean you are not part of a gang. And several of his friends, including the neighbor Torres, and the 14 year old girl friend said that Jamiel was a Blood.
How come no other gang murder victims get this much attention? amazing.

I wonder how many prosecution witnesses will be murdered or receive death threats for testifying against Pedro Espinoza the 18th st cholo who murdered Jamiel Shaw. There have been many murders and death threats by mexican gang members to silence any prosecution witnesses. Below are a few other stories about illegal alien gang members which come to mind.
Two Hispanic men, both members of the 204th Street gang, were arrested a few months later for Cheryl's murder. One, Ernesto Alcarez, is apparently an illegal alien. The other gangster, Jonathan Fajardo, is the son of immigrants from Belize. He is also accused in the killing of a witness in connection with the Green shooting. Christopher Ash, 25, died of multiple stab wounds and a slit throat.

Gang members care no more or less than any kid about what's right or wrong. Unfortunately the dynamics of gang structure decrees that their "rights of passage" must be so goddam dramatic. It's SHIT! and It Needs To Go Away..
The initiation ritual for the Bloods is as criminal as the 18 Gang. They watch someone be murdered. Women are gang-raped. The Bloods don't just let a youth pretend to be a Bloods. They put them up to dealing drugs, selling guns and recruiting young children. All gangs are bad news. So it's so sad to read people speaking about the Bloods like this is "Spanky And Our Gang" when it's so deadly serious to belong with any of these thugs.
The judge didn't rule out evidence that Jamiel was a gang member. Prosecution witnesses testified to it and it's the prosecution's evidence. Everyone's sorry for this father, and it was very generous of you for giving him a blog, but you shouldn't use him as your courtroom mouthpiece. His information is undependable, though understandable. And I'm an avid listener of "John and Ken" but now they're even advising the father to accept that his son was a wannabe. They used that word, "wannabe" meaning your passive-agressive attack on Kevin Roderick for his reporting of the facts doesn't hold water.
You've even got Japanese boys in Tokyo throwing down signs, like the real deal -- with the clothes, hair, everything -- except for the eyes up close, they look like cholos, their round faces and short figures 'n all.
Too bad that they and white surburban boys who can't cut the competition, all think it's "cool," when, it's about murdering in cold blood and then making out in the park. Jamiel sounds like he was a wanna be, but was too nice a kid to have ever done the deed - but when you live in the hood, appearance is enough sometimes.
Plus he was just at the wrong place at the wrong time -- Espinoza's girlfriend/ driver said they were looking for jamiel's neighbor (what's the story there? Do the Shaws know him? Was he a friend of Jamiel and a Blood?) but wasn't home, so Espinoza told her, "Wait a minute," went looking for someone else. (Why? Had he got a hit order from jail the day before? Baca knows his jails, that shot callers send these punks onto the streets with a "job" to do.)
Would Jamiel have been killed if he wasn't wearing the colors? If NOT, then it was a gang not racial hit - if yes, then it was a racial hit, but part of a gang war.
The Judge DID say that the gang papers the defense wanted to bring in is NOT going to be allowed in the case. I was in court.
Jamiel's Law will pass! Then the illegal alien gangbangers will get the hell out of here...and all who are defending them can leave too!!
Arlington Heights is a good neighborhood. It's not "the hood" or "a ghetto" or a "bad bad neighborhood" like it's been said here and elsewhere to defend this thug. Ask his teachers and team mates. Jamiel was a thug. Nice, friendly thug. You never heard of that?
How about asking his neighbors before you say he did nothing wrong? Jamiel was known for spray painting his gang tags. If that was your home maybe you wouldn't be so quick to excuse it in the "hood" and "ghetto", and speak the truth. It's gang violence and it's a crime.
Please stop with the crap that Jamiel was a "nice kid" who didn't commit crimes. But for the insignificant act (to you) of defacing his neighbors property. Maybe it doesn't look like a nice neighborhood to you people, but it's peoples homes. Gang graffiti on there property is gang violence, criminal gang violence, and that was Jamiel Shaw to his neighbors who don't bang like him, and deface there "hood" like him.
The judge DID NOT say the papers were inadmissible. That's wishful thinking for the small faction who hope to hide Jamiel's gang banging. He said to bring in foundation, who it was, who it belonged to. The papers were already preserved as evidence. When it goes to trial the foundation will be shown.
What the judge allowed the defense was to show the photos to Officer Winston Lee who stated that Jamiel appeared to be a gang member by the hand signs which were Rollin
20s. It was dramatic testimony. I was in court to.
Give it a rest 9:14, or Don Quicksand whichever you prefer. Your spelling and grammar identifies you every time. Give it a rest with your persistent campaign to besmirch and taint Jamiel Shaw's rep. At this point in time, with the proliferation of gangs in our city, many folks can get their heads around the fact that he may have been affiliated. What boggles most minds is the fact that "your man", this Espinosa performed his evil deed because he most probably was instructed to by "higher ups" in the LA County jail. His blind obedience speaks volumes of his stance and intent. This guy is a scourge on the land, as are many of his ilk. If an order like S.O. 40 will help to rid our streets of vermin like this cur, then lets rescind it and let the process begin. To Hell with your long- standing illogical, partisan rants.
When all is said, the killer is still an illegal alien gangbanger! Now defend that...
This kid was not a gang banger. He was murdered by a gang banger!
