Truly lacking for city hall content tody? One might think with the budget hearings some gems might be found, like shifting general fund costs to proprietary departments. How about the scheme for DWP to hire furloghed general fund employees and Nahai's idea for them to pass out light bulbs? Or Smith's wanting DWP to pick up 100k of costs for the Griffith Park Christmas light show? Guess Smith didn't know DWP already pays $1 million for that. This is the council's return on investment for approving new DWP rates. What a country!
OR, how about how the Mayor tries to strong-arm General Managers to just sit there and accept huge cuts to their departments and not say anything. How he will "throw you under the bus" if you go against him (quotes are real from the mouth of Tom Saenz). Greig Smith the other day asserted that GMs cannot do their jobs (while Mukri was testifying.) Mukri is married to Wendy Gruel's chief of staff, so he most likely won't get dumped for expressing his point of view. Look for dumping of other, more vocal GM's though. Soon.
regarding the judge ito story, what about the story from the ala weekly last year, where mr hazell was alleged to have had a child with one of he star witnesses, who also was a "lady of the nite" and a drug addict. i knew her and also the victim gary black, both cypess park residents.
The one GM who is ripe for dumping is Ed Boks.
Anyone remember Hooters or the hundred other fiascos up to, past, and including his unauthorized hiring, then firing, of parolees?
Check out the overloaded shelters and look what's doing in the dumpsters. Now, he wants to reduce shelter hours, which is more expensive and less productive than actually getting the job done.
Dumping Ed Bok because the shelters are overcrowded makes no sense if no one has come up with a solution to the problem that has been with us for quite some time. You don't fire a GM because he or she isn't a miracle worker.
Also, you don't know how much of what he is being forced to do regarding service reducations is being forced on him by the Mayor.
What about Zine's idea of getting rid of the overpaid Public Works Commissioners like Cynthia Ruiz who makes $100,000. No other commissioners make that kind of money. Of what about Nahai and his idiot managers taking a pay cut. Nahai makes over $300,000 and his other guys make $200,000. Why isn't anyone outraged at this???
10:51, you DO fire the GM when he creates a circus-like mockery of the department.
You DO fire a GM when dozens of employees submit a No Confidence letter to the Mayor and City Council.
You DO fire a GM when he provides false statistics.
You DO fire a GM when he hires parolees without approval, then lies about it to City Council.
The only GM who has done any, not to mention all, of these, is Ed Boks.
The above is a short-list of his indiscretions.
Ed Boks is the least of this city's problems.
