The past is prologue....
The Randal Simmons tragedy was also an enormous tragedy for the family of the gunman, and The Daily News is there to describe the other funeral. Social historians looking across the generations will find it interesting to note that the father, Geraldo, who also lost his life, had earlier lost his farm and had his home destroyed and his ten cattle stolen during the war in El Salvador.
Social historians also used to find Huntington Library to be a target-rich environment, but not anymore. Remember the days when the Huntington was positively indifferent to drawing crowds and "competing" as a museum? It's new Chinese Garden seems out of step with the longtime icily conservatory and academic character of the organization.
"'The garden is a way the Huntington can throw open its doors to an increasingly Chinese neighborhood and an increasingly Chinese world,' [Suzy Moser, assistant vice president for advancement] said." The mere fact that the Huntington even has a vp of "advancement" let alone is worried about "collaborating with communities" on identity-driven projects comes as a surprise.
The new garden opens next Saturday. I suppose the new identity-market Huntington hasn't gone quite so far as to invite the throngs to explore the irony and ponder what percentage of the Huntington fortune was built on Chinese labor.
Then again, it's not surprising that the past is so quickly forgotten; and LA may be the place where it gets its most notoriously extreme make-over. "I thought Europe was a country," Kellie Pickler once said on "Are You Smarter than a Fifth Grader?" Are Americans hostile to knowledge? wondered the New York Times a couple of days ago, touting some books that explore the ascendancy of solipsistic culture.
Even so, some local high profile orgs are good at re-acquainting us with the past. LA Opera rolls out the second season of Recovered Voices, opera and song of composers nearly rendered completely obscure by Nazi Germany, and the Downtown News applauds in a cultural editorial. Alexander Zemlinsky's The Dwarf and Viktor Ullman's The Broken Jug are at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion for the next few weekends, starting today; click the link for ticket information.

Men often find it's a good place to grab a dress shirt, and women especially like the markdowns on designer shoes, though there are plenty of other items for all. I know it's the west side, but certainly City Hall cubicle farm dwellers on four through seventeen, currently sporting lots of frayed collars and cuffs, can mostly benefit.

The news is what, exactly?
As for the Rivera family, they're not getting a whole lot of sympathy from the general public, nor did they even mention Ofc. Simmons in their eulogy. People thought they should have asked forgiveness of his family and at least had their priest said a prayer for Simmons, who died trying to save them.
The father came to this country illegally and apparently got amnesty through some general program later, and reports say "the sons were believed to be born in this country." The Salvadoran Consulate gave them funds toward their funeral as "expatriates," and virtually all their friends and family are in the Salvadoran community. Of course it's sad, but the father should have been deported when he came illegally, he was a financial refugee. There are millions from Rwanda to India and Romania, who could claim the same, but don't happen to live next to the United States and sneak in.
Had Geraldo and all like him been sent back, and told to apply legally IF he really was a victim of persecution like others must from Russia to Romania, he and his sons would still be alive and so would Officer Simmons. Along with illegals who intend to work honestly and keep their kids out of gangs, come the gangbangers making us the Gang Capitol of the World, an it's a world too hard for many of their kids to resist after all.
RIP to all of them, and let us learn from this tragedy.

I've helped people as a legal volunteer apply for asylum as genuine refugees fleeing persecution, from Russia, Ukraine, Serbian ethnic cleansing and other Eastern European countries. These people have to spend thousands and wait years figting deportations if they come here married to a citizen who divorces them, or on a tourist visa, during which they can't work, or it's a Catch 22, they'll never get legal status.
None of these people commit crimes, they have all been persecuted for their political or ethnic beliefs, or just being the wrong minority. They are all educated and learned English in the first year. They've all been grossly discriminated against compared against compared to your Mexican and Salvadoran illegals. Immigrants which bring all their third-world gangland problems and culture with them.
More than half, some two-thirds, have been denied asylum, because it's hard to "prove" the facts.
Never mind the English-speaking and hardworking Indians and Chinese.
Tijuana has had 50 murders since January 1st alone, and foreigners are shunning it compared to more expensive San Diego. Lucky for us we are bringing not only the population, but also the hellish problems, of Latinismo HERE.
Now we must have Cardenas, Reyes, Alarcon and the rest shoving these people into the midst of Hollywood, the Westside and coastal areas and the West Valley in the guise of "affordable housing."
Reyes insists on shoving these monstrosities into our residential neighborhoods without parking, so that our congestion will be worse, and property values plummet further.
It's funnny how the L A Times article on the Tijuana officials trying to lure tourists back to their city mentions that the patios have turned down their blaring music. Something else the "spoiled and selfish rich" have to look forward to as these people sweep into their neighborhoods: blaring music, with 50 people in one small apartment, and all their old cars crowding the congested streets.
If Reyes and Cardenas have their way, there will be no quiet, "American"- style streets left in L A. (Guess we'll have to move south where the rich live in huge houses behind community gates for far less than it costs here.) Gangs will feel more comfortable infiltrating.
Clinics are closing so legal poor will no longer have access because the millions of illegals from Latin America have crashed the system.
LAUSD needs to be crashed for the same reason.
All of this, and the Salvadoran gangs which sucked in this shooter, and made the family helpless, and killed the Officer, all stem from a refusal to subject Hispanics to the immigration laws.

In fact, there seemed to be resentment that the officer got such a big funeral, which the city didn't show up in force for theirs.

The family didn't think it was trouble waiting to happen, to let a mentally unstable guy walk around the house with a gun, in constant fear of anyone who drove by? They should have hidden the gun at the minimum.
None of the mourners, who were all from their Salvadoran community the papers say, said a word of thanks to Officers Simmons, Veestra or their colleagues. Their Salvadoran Consulate gave them money as "victims of crime," and they are entitled to more from our city for victims of crime. This family was complicit. That they should blame the cops and our city shows how ungrateful people are who come in illegally, and are allowed to stay. Can't believe that Calderon/Cardenas clone is still refusing to look up the common facts of the case, all over the web and even in Daily News, that the shooter was known to always keep a gun with him in the house, nervous and "always on the ready" against the people who targeted the house in a driveby in 06. Believed to be former associates in the gang of fellow Salvadorian "expatriates" who'd broken with him because he was too -- unstable.
Why didn't the parents and brothers hide the gun? And yes, the media is full of reports about how it didn't sit well with a lot of people that they didn't even acknowledge Simmons and the others at their funeral, saying through the priest that Simmons already got his due. Considering Simmons died for them, the Christian thing might have been for the priest to suggest it at least.

Daily News quoting friends of Rivera family about how the killer became even more unstable after his mother died, "some said how he even went around always with a loaded gun after the driveby shooting," in 2006. You despicable little worms, calling people who just read liars.

Rivera killed his family. It's more than reasonable to assume his family would have hid his gun if they could, if only for self defense. They had the biggest motive, if there was a way. Had they been able to take this kid's gun, they would be alive, idiot!

It must have been terrible for that family, raising a child with such mental stress, and fearing him. as we should assume they did. Darn right I'll stand by saying that allowing more than 12 million illegals into this country from the most corrupt and inefficient group of countries, while making legitimate, educated and potentially grateful political applicants from other countries jump through huge hoops and often be deported -- is self-destructive and discriminatory. Of course this is tied to why we're "the gang capitol of the world," why gang crime has exploded in the last two decades, and why we're the most financially strapped local and state government despite having highest real estate prices. If anyone deserves to sue us for discrimination and legal bias, it's the legal applicants for asylum who are being discriminated against for playing by the rules. Americans see through this game: look how Calderon's meddling and trying to turn the Arellano woman into a poster saint for illegals backfired.
As for the circumstances of that family and their tragedy: facts are facts, it would not have happened if ICE had been enforced and the father deported by law, and everyone but the Calderons on this blog realize the double tragedy that the killings could all have been prevented by common sense. It's just lucky the guy didn't shoot someone else first by being so jittery.

CRIME: False 911 calls leading to SWAT response increasing, authorities say.

He told the 911 dispatcher he had killed someone in the house and more bloodshed would follow.
When SWAT units responded to the Southern California home from where the dispatcher thought the call originated, they confronted a man with a weapon and readied their assault rifles.
But unlike this month's Winnetka SWAT standoff - in which Edwin Rivera killed his father, two brothers and LAPD Officer Randal Simmons - this man was innocent, and no tragedy had occurred.
It was all a joke.
Randal Ellis, 19, who lived 1,200 miles away in Washington state, used a computer to trick the 911 dispatcher into believing the "emergency" was inside a home in Orange County, prosecutors allege.
Called "swatting" - for the callers' efforts to get a SWAT team to respond to their pranks - this relatively new cyber crime has piqued the interest of authorities nationwide. In it, cyber criminals make prank life-and-death 911 calls that appear to be originating from others' homes.
Although nowhere near as prolific or troublesome as other financially enticing cyber crimes, several swatting arrests have shed light on the perverse practice.
"We really don't see anyone making a profit from this," said Bryan Duchene, supervising agent in charge of the FBI's Los Angeles cyber crimes unit. "It's just a twisted way for people to have fun."

White supremacist gang gaining clout after forging alliance with Aryan Brotherhood
BUENA PARK, Calif. (AP) — The white supremacist gang Public Enemy No. 1 began two decades ago as a group of teenage punk-rock fans from upper-middle class bedroom communities in Southern California.
Now, the violent gang that deals in drugs, guns and identity theft is gaining clout across the West after forging an alliance with the notorious Aryan Brotherhood, authorities say.
Police say the gang has compiled a "hit list" targeting five officers and a gang prosecutor -- a sign of just how brazen Public Enemy has become.
"They make police officers very, very nervous," said Cpl. Nate Booth, a gang detective with the Buena Park Police Department in Orange County.
Law enforcement officials trace the gang's rise to shifts in the power structure inside prisons.
The Aryan Brotherhood has long been the dominant white supremacist gang behind bars, with the Nazi Low Riders acting as its foot soldiers on the outside for drug dealing and identity theft.
In 2000, officials reclassified the Low Riders as a prison-based gang and began sending its members to solitary confinement as soon as they were imprisoned.
The crackdown hurt the gang's ability to interact with the Aryan Brotherhood, which turned to Public Enemy, authorities say. The alliance was cemented in 2005 when Donald Reed "Popeye" Mazza, an alleged leader of Public Enemy, was inducted into the Aryan Brotherhood.
The pact has increased Public Enemy's wealth and recruiting power, said Steve Slaten, a special agent for the California Department of Corrections.
In the past three years, its ranks have doubled to at least 400, but authorities suspect there could be hundreds of other members operating under the radar. They said heavy recruiting is taking place throughout California and Arizona, and members have been picked up by police in Nevada and Idaho.
"They move around. We find them everywhere," said Lowell Smith of the Orange County Probation Department.
The gang traces its roots to the punk rock subculture in Long Beach in the 1980s. It soon shifted its base to nearby Orange County and in the 1990s began recruiting what police call "bored latchkey kids" -- white teenagers from upper-middle class neighborhoods.
Public Enemy is now involved in identity theft. Booth said the gang has gone from swiping personal information from mailboxes and trash to stealing entire credit profiles with the help of girlfriends and wives who take jobs at banks, mortgage companies and even state motor vehicle departments.
Money from those operations is used to fuel its methamphetamine business, he said.
Two months ago, police agencies in Orange County arrested 67 suspected members after learning about the hit list against officers in Anaheim, Buena Park and Costa Mesa. Those arrested in the raid were charged with conspiracy to commit murder, possession of illegal weapons and identity theft, among other things. Police have not released their names or further details because the investigation is continuing.
Booth recalled another case in which a member of the gang fired dozens of rounds at police from a car driven by his girlfriend during a high-speed freeway pursuit. After being arrested, the man was taken to an emergency room, where he grabbed a scalpel and tried to slash a deputy before cutting himself, Booth said.
Authorities worry that Public Enemy is using stolen credit information to learn the home addresses of police and their families. Some officers have gone to court to have addresses removed from those records, Booth said.

Battle over the drug trade has led to escalating violence in Florence-Firestone.

It used to be that innocent bystanders were not targeted, said Chris Le Grande, pastor of Great Hope Fellowship in Faith, one of Florence-Firestone's largest black churches. "Now it's deliberate. 'I'm deliberately shooting you because of your color.' "
On Tuesday, the U.S. attorney's office announced a sweeping indictment against more than 60 members of Florencia 13, accusing the Latino gang of waging a violent campaign to drive out African American rivals. Once primarily black, the working class community of 60,000 today is mostly Latino.
But some say that's only part of the truth. The war has two sides, said Robert Ramirez, a Florencia 13 gang member.
"I'm not going to say we're angels, but it's 50-50," he said, as fellow gang members sprayed walls with Florencia graffiti. " 'Any black, shoot on sight?' -- it's not true. Nobody likes a racist person."
The neighborhood saw 41 homicides in 2005, surpassing the homicide rate in some of the nation's most dangerous big cities, authorities said. About half of those killed had no gang affiliation.
Homicides dropped to 19 last year after a major law enforcement crackdown that led to 230 felony arrests and the seizure of 130 weapons. But the level of violence remains high.
Authorities attribute the neighborhood's gang troubles in large part to the huge demographic shift that occurred in this economically depressed community over the last 20 years, tipping the balance of power from black to Latino and turning it into a tinderbox of racial tensions.
That kind of demographic shift has occurred in many parts of Southern California, but Florence-Firestone is one of the places where it has turned violent. The violence threatens an economic revival that has begun to revitalize the neighborhood.
Mexican Mafia strategy
For years, the two rival gangs resisted outside pressures to go to war, according to those active in Florencia in the 1990s.
Like many black and Latino gangs, they ignored each other during the worst gang years of the late '80s and early '90s. Instead, they focused on attacking rivals of their own race.
But during the mid-'90s, the Mexican Mafia prison gang began directing Latino gangs to stop fighting each other, to "tax" drug dealers and to push blacks from their neighborhoods, according to numerous gang members and law enforcement officers.
Florencia, in particular, had warred for years with 38th Street, a Latino gang to the north.
But under the new rules, Florencia was forced to get along with rival Latino gangs and once even played a pickup football game with 38th Street, said one Florencia gang member who requested anonymity out of fear for his safety.
The Mexican Mafia "didn't understand how it worked," he said. "I hate 38th Street. I didn't have no problem with the guys from East Coast because I grew up with them. It's kind of hard to say, 'Now I'm going to. . . kill this black guy just because he's black.' But that's how they wanted to do it."

Arrests made in fatal shooting of baby
The alleged gunman is returned to L.A. He and five other 18th Street gang members are accused of wounding a street vendor and killing a baby in a stroller.

Los Angeles Police Department detectives said Tuesday that they have cracked one of last year's most brazen murder cases, arresting a member of the notorious 18th Street gang for allegedly killing a 23-day-old baby and badly wounding a street vendor during a September shooting in a crowded shopping district near MacArthur Park.
Giovanni Macedo, 31, was extradited to California last month from another state and charged with murder and several other felonies. He had been apprehended in late October.
Five other gang members -- including Juan Pablo Murillo, who police say was in charge of the gang's extortion and drug dealing in the area -- have been arrested and charged with murder for allegedly helping to plan and carry out the shooting. Two other suspects are being sought in Mexico, said LAPD Det. David Holmes.
The shooting, Holmes said, was retaliation against Francisco Clemente, 37, who had been refusing to pay the weekly "rent" that the 18th Street gang has extorted for years from vendors who scrape out a living selling clothes, electronics and other goods along the sidewalks near 6th Street and Burlington Avenue.
Several hours before the shooting, a collector for the gang made a final attempt to shake down Clemente for the roughly $50 vendors are charged each week, police said. As he had for weeks, Clemente refused. With hundreds of shoppers milling about, Macedo -- along with others charged in the murder -- strode up to the vendor around 9:30 p.m. Sept. 15 and opened fire at close range, according to detectives.
Clemente was struck several times in the chest and is recovering from the wounds. The infant, Luis Angel Garcia, was killed by a single bullet as he lay in his stroller near Clemente, Holmes said.
Contrary to previous news reports that the mother was passing by when her infant was struck by a stray bullet, Holmes and Det. Juan Guerra said the woman, whom they did not name, is a vendor who shared sidewalk space with Clemente.
The detectives declined to say whether turning the gun on the infant was part of the gang's plan, but said the child was in plain view.
"There wasn't a blanket or anything covering the stroller, and it was right next to" Clemente, Holmes said. "Usually babies are in baby carriages."
His death deeply shook residents and vendors in the poor, immigrant neighborhood who typically remain silent in the face of assaults, intimidation and drug dealing by the local clique of 18th Street, a violent gang born in Los Angeles but that has spread over the years into other U.S. cities, Mexico and Central America.
But in the days after Luis Garcia's killing, police received tips from witnesses and other vendors who had been victims of the gang's extortion ring, leading to the arrests.
"It took the death of this baby to start people coming forward," Holmes said.
Amid intense media scrutiny and calls for arrests by city officials, LAPD commanders unleashed huge resources on the case, at one point assigning two dozen homicide detectives and gang specialists.
Preliminary court hearings for Macedo and the others are expected in coming weeks. Police said they expect more arrests related to the killing.

Federal trial exposes the Avenues of hate

The three African-American men had just spent another evening at the Lodge, a popular gay bar in North Hollywood. It had become a ritual for 38-year-old Kenneth Kurry Wilson, his nephew, Dewayne Williams, 29, and their friend Frank Eubanks, ever since Williams moved into Highland Park, the predominantly Latino neighborhood just a jog north on Figueroa from downtown. Wilson, dressed in a yellow shirt, black jeans and his trademark black boots, was the designated driver. By the time the three men pulled up in front of Williams’ place in a two-story apartment building on Avenue 52, it was around 3:30 a.m. on a Sunday. By then, Williams was passed out drunk in the back seat of the car. Wilson went to park their ride, a gold ’84 Fleetwood Cadillac, while his nephew’s roommates helped Williams up the stairs and into his apartment.
While Wilson scoured Avenue 52 for a spot, six Avenues gang members in a stolen van were winding down an evening of looking for rival gangsters who were “slipping” — or letting their guard down. The gangsters wound their way through the narrow streets of Highland Park, Cypress Park and Dogtown gang territory, crossing out other gang tags and spray-painting “Aves” and “Avenidas” along the way. That night they were on a “mission,” so they wore gloves, dark clothing and beanies. Their scanner was programmed to the Los Angeles Police Department’s Northeast Division frequency so they would know about any police cruisers patrolling the area. The gangsters were carrying a .357 revolver, a 9 mm semiautomatic and a 12-gauge shotgun.
They spotted Wilson driving the Cadillac as they made their way down Avenue 52. They watched Wilson make a U-turn and slow down to park. The driver said to his friends: “Hey, wanna kill a nigger?”
Little else was said except “Fuck it.” That’s the scene as described by Jose de la Cruz, a former Avenues gang member, who testified this month in federal court that he and two other gangsters then jumped out of the van and ran toward the Cadillac. All three men opened fire, blowing out the Cadillac’s back and side windows, and one of its tires. A single bullet entered the back of Wilson’s neck, severing his carotid artery and lodging near his throat. He died within minutes.
“He dropped,” said de la Cruz about Wilson’s murder, on April 18, 1999. “He just stopped moving.”
De la Cruz and another Avenues gangster, Jesse Diaz, were two of the key witnesses to testify in the ongoing hate-crime trial in federal court in downtown Los Angeles. Federal prosecutors alleged that Gilbert “Lucky” Saldana, 27, Alejandro “Bird” Martinez, 29, Fernando “Sneaky” Cazares, 26, and Porfirio “Dreamer” Avila, 31 — all members of the Avenues gang clique known as Aves 43 — agreed to kill in order to run black people out of Highland Park. Another defendant, Merced “Shadow” Cambero, 28, is a fugitive. The jury should begin deliberations this week.
Both de la Cruz and Diaz claimed that they were in the van on the night of Wilson’s murder along with the defendants — testimony their defense attorneys disputed. De La Cruz is currently serving a 45-year sentence in state prison for his role in Wilson’s slaying. Diaz is serving a 20-year state sentence for the attempted murder of a police officer. Both men agreed to testify against their childhood chums in the hope that they would get time knocked off their sentences.
“They are not choirboys,” said Assistant U.S. Attorney Alex Bustamante about de la Cruz and Diaz, who were both shackled to the witness box. “They are in jail for violent crimes. They are not testifying out of the goodness of their hearts. They have agreements with the government.”

In 2003, Diaz and de la Cruz were contacted by the FBI, who were investigating the possibility of bringing hate-crime charges against the Aves 43 after local law enforcement informed federal authorities about a rash of hate-crime-related incidents. (See Pelisek’s related story, “Avenues of Death,” at laweekly.com.) The two men agreed to cooperate if the government helped them in their efforts to have their sentences reduced. Prosecutors agreed to send letters to Diaz and de la Cruz’s state sentencing judges.
In 2004, federal authorities indicted Saldana, Cazares, Martinez and Cambero on federal weapons and civil rights charges. On November 16, 2005, Avila was added to the list of those federally indicted. While on the lam, Cambero was arrested under a false name by Ventura law-enforcement officials but was let go accidentally. On another occasion, police believe they chased him over a fence in Highland Park.
In addition to de la Cruz and Diaz’s testimonies, the 12 jurors heard from black residents of Highland Park who said that they had been harassed, attacked and subjected to racial slurs by the Aves 43. These allegations, which occurred between 1995 and 2001, included the attempted murder of a homeless man, racial slurs directed at a girl in a supermarket and a black police officer, and the drawing of chalk outlines of human bodies in the driveway of a black resident’s home. Other black residents were repeatedly told to move out of the Highland Park neighborhood and called racial slurs like “nigger” and “mayate.”
“They wanted all blacks out of the neighborhood, not just African-American men, not just African-American gang members but all African-American women and children,” said Bustamante.
The federal hate-crime trial also involves the murder of two other black men, Christopher Bowser and Anthony Prudhomme, who were both killed in 2000. Cazares, Cambero, Martinez and Saldana are charged with violating a federal hate-crime statute, which is based on the 13th Amendment to the Constitution outlawing slavery, by allegedly killing Wilson because of his race, and while he was on a public street. (Civil rights laws say everyone has the right to use public streets without the threat of violence.) The four defendants are also charged with using a firearm. Teen Girl Shot In Racially Motivated Hate Crime
LOS ANGELES (CBS) ― The killing of a 14-year-old black girl in the Harbor Gateway area of Los Angeles was racially motivated, and the Hispanic gunman remains at large, police said Tuesday.
"We are labeling it as a hate crime," said Officer Martha Garcia of the Los Angeles Police Department's Media Relations office.
Cheryl Green was fatally shot about 3:10 p.m. Friday near 206th Street and Harvard Boulevard, Garcia said.
Three other teens -- two girls and a boy -- were also wounded, but survived, Garcia said.
"It just makes no sense to me," Cheryl's 19-year-old brother, David Cary, told the Daily Breeze. "She had her whole life ahead of her. ... Just because of the color of her skin."
Cheryl was shot about a block from her home.
The killer opened fire on the girl and her teenage friends as they stood on a corner.
Family members believe they were targeted because of their race, the newspaper reported.
The Stephen M. White Middle School eighth-grader possibly became the latest innocent victim in the escalating battle between Hispanic and black gangs in Harbor Gateway, the newspaper reported.
According to the newspaper, the area north of 206th Street between Western and Normandie avenues is Hispanic, and the area south of 206th is black. Cheryl -- who had nothing to do with gangs -- was on the black side of the line when she was shot.
Police said a Hispanic gunman walked up to Cheryl and seven friends hanging out just an hour after school ended. Winter vacation had just begun when the shooter opened fire.
"It's another senseless act of violence," LAPD Harbor Station Detective Mike Falvo said. "It's pretty disgusting."
Teens told Cheryl's family the gunman was young, possibly Cheryl's age, and he appeared scared as he pulled the trigger.
The bullet, Cheryl's siblings said, grazed a girlfriend's head before hitting Cheryl's side.
Cheryl's friends rushed her and the three other wounded teens in their own car to a hospital, where doctors told them Cheryl had died instantly.
The Harbor Gateway has been a treacherous place for blacks and Hispanics since the mid- to late-1990s, when blacks started moving into the largely Hispanic area, the newspaper reported.

LAPD SWAT Team Officer Randall Simmons was shot by a kid with mental problems. It was not a racially motivated killing nor was it a gang motivated killing. Second Gang Crackdown In Southeast Fresno
2/13/2008 (KFSN) -- A second crackdown on gang members is underway in Southeast Fresno. This time, police are zeroing in on Bulldog members, one week after a similar operation targeted Southeast Asian gangs. More than a hundred officers are participating in Wednesday's operation, compared to last week's 40. The mission, though, is the same. Police are going into gang members homes and making sure they're complying with the conditions of their probation or parole.

Fresno police are in the middle of a one-day gang sweep focusing on Asian gangs in east central and southeast Fresno.
A rash of shootings and increased gang activity prompted police to conduct Wednesday’s operation.
Two arrests were made in an east central Fresno neighborhood of Asian gang members who police said were in violation of their parole. Fresno police are targeting the area of south of Shields and east of First street.
Police said their concern is for the innocent residents who may be in danger of being caught in gang crossfire.
The sweep will continue until early Thursday morning.
Meanwhile, Fresno's crackdown is pushing gang members into surrounding communities.
Both Reedley and Sanger have reported a surge in gang activity.

Well that does not change the fact that the great majority of gang members in California are mexican. And the biggest prison gang by far, is the mexican mafia.
Do you really think just becuase you post one story about an asian gang we are supposed to think asain gangs are the ones doing the most murders in Los Angeles. Asian gangs have become a huge problem in Central and Northern California.
Los Angeles exports gang violence around the world. L.A. exported the Asian gangs. It starts here. Therefore, it's all Los Angeles' problem.
There are five black gangs on the LAPD Top 11 list, but that doesn't interest you, either.
It's debatable that the Mexican Mafia is the biggest prison gang. There's the Aryan Brotherhood.

All these gangs kill innocents.

Awful and cruel, but not the numbers or danger to the general public of Hispanic gangs.
As for the black gangs, of course they've been around for decades and dealing drugs, but the Hispanics with direct and close connections to Hispanic drug cartels in Latin America have changed the game, made it all more vicious. By trying to drive blacks out of their own neighborhoods and killing innocents like Cheryl Green, a teen riding his bike in Hollywood -- they've upped the ante. And among their main non-gang victims, illegal Hispanics who won't pay taxes to them as Mafia Dons.
Their main victims are rival gang members. Stop spinning your racist dreck!
