Lax LAX Security
NBC Channel 4's Chuck Henry presented a disturbing report Thursday night, the gist of which is that there is no security near the LAX jet fuel tanks. If you can climb a dumpster, you can step over the chain-link fence. Alternatively, you can wait for the fence to open for a delivery truck, and drive your truck in right behind it. Great journalism; lousy security. Maybe the Mayor would care to do something about it, especially insofar as he spends more time at the airport than in his office?

These are bullshit "stories" every single time they run them. You can never secure an airport perfectly and these reporters take these cheap shots to boost ratings.
Airports accross the country are not "secured" to NBC's standards, nor can they be. I can walk onto the airport right up to NBC's chopper... maybe they should secure it lest I steal their fuel and make a bomb.

You might feel differently if you had actually seen the story. Also, you may not recall, but back in 2003-2004, the City spent bizillions for improved "perimeter security," which, as I pointed out at the time, was merely chain-link fence at a price of something like $6000 per linear foot.
But I do agree with your basic point, which is that in a free and open country like ours, you can never secure targets against terrorist attacks.
You can walk right up to NBCs chopper at LAX. This shows that your a clown. First off, NBC Chopper 4 is out of Whiteman. That is a county owned airport that has no threat. You can climb into a single engine fixed wing, and do what? Nothing. Lets say you can start and fly chopper 4. What are you going to do with it? Nothing. That thing couldnt do any significant damage!. And than there is 9 and 2 there. How about 7, 5, 11, 34, Childrens hospital, over at Van Nuys. Now thats a joke! Van Nuys, another airport run by LAX, has 100 million dollar jets going out of there. These jets can do the same damage as ANY jet at LAX. And for the most part, you can walk right on there. No security. It is a joke. So I applaud Chuck Henry and his efforts to bring out the problems at LAX. This problem will be fixed, and brushed under the rug! Why is it so easy for him to find these issues? If Channel 4 is finding these easy access points, why arent the 400 police officers at LAX finding them? I could see your point if it was something that could not be fixed, but come on. This is an EASY fix, and again LAX is not paying attention.
For anybody to be able to drive in there is crazy. The guy from the post above should be mad at the police out there. The Police are not doing thier job if it is this easy to gain access. You can secure an airport. The problem is that its not taken serious here in Los Angeles. More ammo for LAPD in a couple of years for them to take control and secure the airports. I bet if Channel 2 did another report there about lazy ass cops youll see the same things. Not going to calls, 4 hour breaks, and incompitance! Nothing new at LAX.
You people drive me crazy when you say satpuid things like, "Airports accross the country are not "secured" to NBC's standards". I dont think they shuold be secured to NBCs standard. I think that they should be secured to "Terrorist" standard. If these people are able to gain access, how safe does that make you? Chuck needs to keep doing what he is doing and expose these issues. I would like to see how far he can push it. I would like everybody to know hiw unsecure we are. That would scare the idiots in charge of this airport into action. So far there has been nothing but inaction. I bet today they have people standing gaurd at the fuel tanks. Now all they need is to rent a car and see how easy it is to get on the runway. To bad they cant do that. I know chuck doesnt want to go to jail in the minor event he gets seen after the hours he is driving around there.

On this night, 3 Frank 12 never responded to an emergency despite calling the officer by name.
“3 Frank 12 come in, 3 Frank 12 Officer Cotton come it.”
Another night – it was Canine 4.
“Canine 4 unattended bag at gate 60.” “Canine 4 Canine 4 did you receive?” “Canine 4 Canine 4 come in”
For two months we went undercover at LAX. Watching some airport police officers abandon their posts – and listening while others never responded or just ignored emergency calls.
“2 Lincoln 207, 207”
“207, 207 Officer Brown come in”
Officer Brown never answered. And as far as we can tell – no one bothered to find out why. That’s disturbing to LAPD Chief William Bratton – whose Officers work side-by-side with the LAX Airport Police.
“No police officer can ignore a radio call – if they are discovered doing that they will be disciplined as I’m sure Chief Wilson will discipline his officers in terms of anything he’s able to prove they did not do that they’re supposed to do.
LAX Police Chief Bernard Wilson has promised to get to the bottom of it.
He’s already has put two officers on administrative leave. Mayor Jim Hahn has ordered an investigation. So has L.A. City Council.
But while some of the LAX police officers are ignoring their responsibilities at California’s number one terrorist target – our investigation also found some of their supervisors doing the same thing.
Special Assignment obtained internal documents from the LAX police department.
In many cases sergeants never signed off on daily reports. Meaning the officers claims of patrolling the airport weren’t checked by a supervisor. Our investigation prompted a call by some city councilmembers to question the leadership of the police department.
“I question where is the supervision. Where is the management, where is the administration of LAWA – are they just asleep at the wheel?”
Bratton's question is answered I guess.

Yup, asleep at the wheel! What a bunch of ass-clowns!
"Security, Security" Replace these idiots with janitors, youll at least get more presence out of them.
Scary that they continued the LAX Security on NBC 4 with Chuck Henry with an anti-terrorist expert. He got onto the premises so easy. They spoke with guys in huge delivery trucks who said they line along side one area at LAX and after a couple of hours just let them in never checking to see what's inside. They also showed how easy it is to gain access by jumping a fence and getting really close to the gas tankers. Weiss had a motion passed and asked LAWA to go to council to explain. The new LAX police chief is the arrogant, snooty Chief Butts who use to be with Santa Monica.
The answer is not a good one but it is because LAWA is broken. There is no way solutions are looked at but instead if someone comes up with an idea or suggestion that requires some effort on the part of LAWA Administration that person is labeled as a trouble maker. My bet is there have been a few trouble makers who have noticed these and other security problems and I pity them.
This isnt just another news report. Chuck brought up some amazing points. And all LAWA could say is that they meet FAA standards. I hope that Weiss and council get to the bottom of this. LAWA should want to be secured. Lydia Cunard has made LAWA so much money that they need to spend it on making the place locked down. I cant believe this. I wish I could have heard the excuses the Airport Police Officer gave Chuck, but it was cut out. Stupid people! Just STUPID!
Yeah and Janice Hahn and that idiot Rosendahl want to pass a motion in support of Dario Frommer's bill to give primary jurisidiction to LAX police officers not LAPD. I question why Hahn and Rosendahl would want this? Other council members don't support them.
Why doesn't somebody ask Lydia the Savior to explain? She was there before Hahn and there after Hahn. As Villaraigosa's girl, where is her accountability?
I guess Chuck Henry will wait longer in line at LAX security before going on trips for "Travel Cafe."
Where's Antonio on this? How come he hasn't come out with a statement like he did and slammed Chief Bratton for stating the obvious? Antonio is nothing more then a paid for mayor who does what he's told by the people who donated to his campaign. You can bet if LAPD officers did something like this his little, aging, wrinkled face would be in front of the cameras.
