What's in your wallet?
Probably a pretty good chunk of change, if you're reading along from the lovely Ferarro Building or any of its klunky satellites this morning. According to the DN's Beth Barrett:
That's just the kind of Monday morning story that should get your friendly EAA member's blood boiling for the week.
Los Angeles Department of Water and Power workers racked up more than $51 million in overtime in the last six months of 2005, accounting for more than 30 percent of some divisions' payroll, the Daily News has learned.
Records show more than half of the public utility's 8,100 workers took home a chunk of the lucrative pay, with nine out of 10 working overtime in some divisions.
For some electrical and mechanical engineers, overtime added 50 percent or more to their base salaries of $74,000 to $100,000, according to records.
That's just the kind of Monday morning story that should get your friendly EAA member's blood boiling for the week.

That is a ridiculous article. My overtime here at DWP is defintely justified. We are understaffed on some of our design projects. That is why I HATE the daily news.

maybe we can have rocky investigate
isn't he going to be president someday

stop slandering rocky - he's running against a guy who ran for president - that makes him sort of presidential, kinda, i think

Are you fu**ing kidding me 12:07? The whole city is understaffed not just DWP. Contractors are racking up the $$$$ with all the work they get that city employees are supposed to do. Blame Hahn and now Little Tony for this shit!

Hey, 12:07, how do you have time on the job to read and post comments on blogs? Get to work 'cuz I'm paying you lots of money for what you do (supposedly).

Does anyone know if Firebaugh is in the hospital and in grave condition?

Why doesn't one of the LA reporters "TROLLS" following Antonio to NY and the other cities he's visiting research how much of our tax dollars this is costing?????? First of all Antonio is NOT in control of the schools yet and he's spending CITY TIME and MONEY (our tax dollars) on this issue. There has to be an ethics clause violation here someplace.

On Ludlow and Humphries:
"It's important because the funds they took belonged to members of that union," Missakian said. "Those members work very hard for that money, and Mr. Ludlow and Ms. Humphries have no right to use that money as if it was their own."
Remember: Martin and Janet are liars and thieves. These two should never ever be allowed to particpate in public life again.

The Mayor isn't "fact-finding," he's campaigning to become Hillary's V.P. candidate. Meanwhile, he's not doing the job for which he was elected.
Even assuming he were sincere about school reform, he could have and should have sent a deputy or assistant mayor to investigate New York schools. (Doesn't Hertzberg work for him?) But the point of the journey isn't to gather information, it's to get his face on the news nation-wide.

I'm suprised Chick-n-shit hasn't done her audits on DWP. This would have been helpful to say, hire more workers so that the current ones can't charge as much overtime or compromised the proposed pay increase for an increase of more employees.
Anonymous said:
Yeah, how can Chick-N-Shit be crying about all this overtime when the fact of the matter is its HER responsibility to know where the city money is being spent. DWP should have been the first dept. audited. WHY DOESN'T SHE DO IT NOW???

What the Daily News fails to report is the HUGE downsizing that occured during the 90s. During that time, there was barely any overtime if not none. However, because of the poor representation of the EAA during the downsizing period at DWP. More than 2000 engineers and management staff employees were cut. SO because of that downsize, overtime was needed to pick up the slack and now the Daily News attacks DWP for that? If they really want to get to the source, they need to investigate why the DWP engineers all voted unanimously to leave EAA and join IBEW and how EAA did a shitty job "protecting" their members during that time period. So in retrospect, the source of the OT lies at the hands of the crappy EAA.

To 11:06 - Blaming the EAA again Royce Menkus? You're just pissed off because DWP FIRED YOU! Now, quit wasting the tax payers money and get back to work (assuming you ever did anything worth your bloated salary!)
