County Probation Officers AWOL
In a move potentially dangerous to the public safety, hundreds of Los Angeles County Probation officers have walked off the job in a work action.Deputy probation officer Ivory Thomas told the Daily Breeze that the officers have been at work without a contract for over two years. At the heart of the dispute is the desire of the officers to be classified as public safety officers, as Sheriff's Deputies are, which will provide them with better retirement and benefits.
Probation officers do a tough job and play a key role in fighting and preventing crime. I am sure there are some crappy ones out there, but there are likely lots of good ones. The County Supervisors need to recognize this and find a way to give the officers what they want. I am sure there is some other pork-barrell nonsense out there that can be cut to make this important investment in public safety.

County Probation is one department that needs a Laura Chick-like investigation. Too bad there is nobody in the County to do that. It is the most corrupt department in the County.
agree that it needs to be looked into but not sure that it is the most corrupt county department. That title belongs to either the Board of Supervisors or the Health Department.
