As an activist and campaign employee, I've had to deal with people who truly thought that the way to win elections was to sit and discuss the issues with me. Nice and all, but that is better left for your time off because while you're in the office, you need to target the "groups", perfect your message and push it out.

Over and over and quickly. That and campaign contributions is how you win elections.

For the Blog Phil:

Dear Supervisor Yaroslavsky:

In the off-chance you check your e-mail, I'd like to bring to your attention a 4-page flyer I received this week that shows a picture of you with candidate for CD2 Chris Essel. This picture appears at the bottom of a page. It looks like an older picture of you because I know you have lost a lot of weight in recent years (you need to tell us how). Below the picture appears a caption that reads "For 20 years, Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky and Christine Essel have worked together to create new jobs and protect our quality of life."

The picture appears in the lower right hand corner of the back page of the flyer along side a picture of Chris with Controller Wendy Greuel and a picture of Chris with Mayor Richard Riordan. A list of endorsers appears above showing endorsements by a number of people including Wendy and Richard Riordan. However, your name does not appear. Supervisor Knabe's name appears as an endorser.

I am a little confused. Are you endorsing anyone in this Special Election? The flyer is quite confusing.

Please clarify your involvement in this Special Election.

Thank you

I'm not fully understanding. The letter is to Permanent Absentee voters, like soldiers. But he speaks of "my effective advocacy for our community" which implies the Armenian community. Playing the Armenian persuction card is over the top. But then when your opponent is Shallman from the Sewer, sadly you have to counter punch for punch.

Since Shallman entered the scene L A politics is in the sewer.

Some of his clients are down there with him - like the Nooch - and they are meant for each other.

Some like Essel just get the crap rubbed all over them anyway, you can't play with that stuff and not have it get on you.

Wendy only won because she outspent her opponent 10:1 but even so, a nobody with no money like Suzy Evans came second over Nick, who'd gotten Wendy in such a panic she ran to D'Arcy and begged for $300,000 so he owns her and Essel. Sold out to the devil cheap and easy since Nick only had $30,000 total and Evans almost zero.
Wendy's only support in CD2 was from Sunland-Tujunga over HD but she's lost that since all their endorsements went to Tamar and Benson, now Krekorian. Wendy is as empty a vessel as Essel now.

Wendy Greuel is proving to be a massive disappointment as Controller. She cannot get 'control' over the ugly mess left behind by Rocky and Chick, and now wants to be fiscally irresponsible by making the City of LA pay $500k to Chick's lawyer for losing the case.
Wendy has hired Shallman to be her campaign advisor for her 2013 run for the Mayor's Office but her weakness and stupidity over trying to justify paying legal fees to the lawyer who lost the law suit is not going to help her credibility one bit.
The original dispute was whether Chick as Controller, could audit the City Attorney. That dispute ended when Judge Mooney said the Controller does not have that power. One of the new City Attorney's campaign promises was to allow an audit, and when Trutanich took office, he asked the new Controller (Wendy) to start the audit, and indeed that audit has started.
So why is Wendy showing us how stupid she is? Doesn't she realize the case is over, the audit has started and nobody understands why we need to pay a half a million dollars for nothing.

2:47 = as stupid and as much of a liar as all of FALSETanich's brain-dead corp of liars and idiots. FALSETanich swore up and down on all that's holy to uphold Chick and Woocher no matter how the ruling came down to get her support - Weiss had supported her right to audit but was trying to get her and Rocky to agree to mediation before they went to court, Trutanich gave her his blessing.

2:47, you hacks LOVED Chick and Doug McItyre until they pointed out that people, especially officials entrusted with stewardship of all those lawyers, shouldn't be liars and frauds, and shouldn't use the lawyers for their egomania.

What a low-down lie to claim that Woocher would be insane enough to take the case on for free, pro bono - he took it on with no money upfront on promise of being paid a fair amount when case was settled. Because Laura made one slip of the tongue somewhere, FALSETanooch and his flunky Bill Carter are using that to claim that a pro like Woocher would have ever agreed to work for FREE.

But that egotistical idiot Nooch won't pay him because of he's so ignorant of the law and arrogant, that he insists it would turn Chick and Woocher from "losers" into "winners," since the Nooch has some 3rd grade playground idea of the world. Woocher had offered to settle for as little as $100,000, possibly $80,000, but NutNooch is intent on driving up the costs knowing it hurts the city. But he has his primitive idea of what it means to "win" or "lose."

FALSETanooch won't let Greuel be represented in court, unless she agrees to a lawyer who reports to him, which the Judge says is nuts, or of his choosing outside the city, which the City Chief Financial Officer said was irresponsible -- it would cost a lot mroe than paying off Woocher.

Hey 2:47, what about the LATimes' latest editorial TODAY, telling the cowardly City Council to MAKE the Nooch settle, to act like his bosses which they are.

The Daily News wrote an editorial over a month ago chastisting the Nooch for putting his ego over the good of the city, in so many words.

Greuel may have her faults over issues, but fighting the imbecilic egomaniac we got as Shitty Attorney because of Shallman's lies isn't one of them.

Clearly READ from an LATimes piece where Chick is quoted using the word "pro bono," at that council meeting they'd hoped to keep secret from us. But Woocher said then AND Chick did many, many times elsewhere that Chick's not a laywer and didn't understand the difference between "pro bono" and deferred compensation. Carter KNOWs that, and that a lawyer like Woocher would never work for FREE -
Anyone who's not a lying scumbag admits it - how DESPICABLE for not only the Nooch who'll "say and do anything" to get what he wants but also for Carter to keep repeating this despicably sneaky lie.

If a pissant two-bit lawyer from Long Beach does it to get a rapist off the hook, it's one thing, though detestable - but for a City Attorney AND his chief Deputy, who was 2nd in Command for Decades to the DA who behaves like he has unlimited power and no checks on him? Makes you realize how much they got away with "in secret."

On top of scads of lawyers and even presiding judges IN WRITING expressing shock at their behavior of circling the wagons to hide lies and mistakes, often which ruin people's lives, depriving victims of justice and worse, keeping innocents in jail.

Now of course that idiot Kevin James repeats it nightly as gospel as do the uneducated, nasty fools like you Mr. 12:07 a.m. FOR SHAME.

How SAD for Carter that after a long career doing Cooley's dirty work AND some probably decent stuff in relative obscurity, he's now been forced to take on trying to do the same for this amateur who can't understand the law or get past his primitive instincts.

Just shows that Carter and Cooley got away with this in darkness for decades - they gambled their puppet could do same but there's so much more attention on him than was on Cooley, even though the DA has so much more power. Shallman is Cooley's campaign manager too - they ALL played the same way.

By helping the Nooch with his dirty tricks and thuggery, Cooley and Carter (and Livesay) have unwittingly exposed their ow decades-long appalling behavior to the air above the dungeons in which they operate with impunity.

Anonymous at 2:47PM asks: "So why is Wendy showing us how stupid she is? Doesn't she realize the case is over, the audit has started and nobody understands why we need to pay a half a million dollars for nothing."

The answer is obvious. Wendy is scared that Nuch might run against her for mayor in 2013. She's playing the "innocent bystander", in the hopes that some of the manure piles on Trutanich. It wouldn't surprise me if the one and only Anti-Nuch spinhole were actually a Greuel operative.

3:59 thinks that idiot LieTanuch is going to run for mayor? How out to lunch are his few diehard fans about how much of a buffoon he is to all? Besides everyone knows that his puppetmaster Cooley recruited him and groomed him to run for this job to learn the ropes about public office so he can run to replace HIM as DA.

The idea of this opportunistic IQ-challenged bully rising to an even higher level of incompetence is utterly impossible. He'll likely be recalled soon and he's up for an ever bigger long over-due slap on the head from the Council real soon.

Actually, we have already started collecting signatures. Trutanich for President. In addition to locations around the city we can be contacted by supporters and signers at funone@hotmail.com

The Republican community is a big problem and a big crime ring. I guess you are not allowed to mention anything like this. But it is a disgusting culture of greed and illegal activity. If this surprises you then you need to do your homework and follow the money. I know it sounds bad to say this. The Republican party is one centered around being a crime ring for developers and environmental rapists.

Trutanich for mayor. Oh that is hilarious. Unless Jack Weiss is the only candidate who runs against him, there isn't a chance in hell that Carmen is capable of winning that election, much less being capable of the job duties.

And Wendy is no better. Laura Chick is the obvious candidate!

Laura Chick for Mayor 2013!!

12:43, Weiss was right in everything he said about Nuch and on the issues so he's looking pretty darned good about now, not one thing against him held up. He was railroaded by the Times and other media which regretted having gone so easy on Antonio when it turned out he barely won against a field of nobodies - so like Joe Mailander keeps saying, took it out on Weiss. When it comes to how he handled development, the quality of projects that emerged, the wisdom of Pico-Olympic vs. continued gridlock now, someone who'd have really worked FOR the social and economic issues people stand for instead of driving off businesses like AEG, messing with LAPD in ignorant ways like Nooch, giving the city sound consistent legal advice - all down the line. The SLAPPERs who united against him aren't looking so sharp now.
Those who think the mayor isn't that sharp on his own, more of a salesman than a thinker or detail man, should want someone he trusts to guide his administration. With Robin Kramer gone, even the Times realized too late, the mayor needs "a grownup in charge" he can trust. Carr is a nice guy and has few enemies, but little depth.

Chick for mayor, after she fell for Trutanich and supported him just because she wouldn't take the advice of the Council which Weiss agreed with, to let them find a way to mediate before she and Rocky got bogged down in court?

Of course Nuch lied to her to use her, like he did the medical pot people - but she should have known better. She also grandstanded on issues like the rape kits instead of giving others their earned due.

Ask Charlie Beck, who worked on the issues for years, worked out a solution pending full funding, when she suddenly "discovered" the problem.

Chick was beloved by the Nuch-Kevin James crowd ONLY because she was WRONG on Weiss and the DNA rape kit issue. As soon as she outed Nuch, they turned on her. She has no fan base left.

Anyway Wendy wouldn't let her come back to kick her out of that slot. Wendy's got her eye on the job, as do Eric and Perry, and Perry is a very dark horse. Eric's got big negatives as the density hawk and his smooth talk cuts both ways. Wendy would get slammed if she didn't stick out Controller for 2 terms, for job-hopping again, while Eric will be termed out, so he's got to run for something. Would he go to Sacramento before circling back?

No, he won't. So if your theory is right and it is the most plausible one I've read yet, I would look toward Eric Garcetti as the next Mayor.

Perhaps, but the Democrats are no better. Theirs is a crime ring for unions and increased taxes (they call them rate hikes and penalties). Both parties protect their financial backers, whether or not laws are broken.

Both parties are just different sides of the same tarnished coin.

To the fool that is 11:35 A.M. and attacked Bill Carter, perhaps you need to do a little homework.

Yes, Bill was a DDA for a while, from 1985 to 1992, only. Steve Cooley was first elected DA in 2000.

Bill had a distinguished career as an Assistant U.S. Attorney and later as counsel for the California EPA. He never worked for Cooley as the DA.

What's the matter with you guys?

Are like the mainstream media that Sarah Palin has to say "Quit making things up"?

Bill Carter is a stand up guy and a professional prosecutor.

Don't tell me you meant Curt Livesay, either, because Curt is also a professional and yes, he did work for Cooley, but he also worked for Van de Kamp, Reiner, Philibosian and Garcetti. He is a long time professional prosecutor who has come out of retirement and is instituting appropriate procedures in the City Attorney's office to bring them into the 21st century.

Grow up and stop whining; Nuch is doing the right thing and when he's done, we will have a functioning City Attorney's office, not the crap that Jimmy and Rocky ran.

The Police Political Union's ads are running on 790kabc and all over, but even they tout the endorsement of Wendy, themselves and all the b.s. of how she's an agent for good change but even they aren't dumb enough to push Nuch's endorsement.
While they spent almost a $MILLION Bucks on the Nooch just a few months ago. And we're supposed to listen to them this time? The cops are mad at their idiot leaders who throw good money after bad and want the Teamsters or someone who's in the tradition of Tim Sands. Weber and Repovich have managed to ruin their rep in mere months at a waste of millions.

What Curt Livesay has done as second banana to Steve Cooley IS very much a matter they'd rather have left in the dark. Ask Paul Lisker or Deborah Peagler just recently. On Lisker, the Times felt strongly enough to editorialize on how nasty Cooley and Livesay were to him, that after being exonerated for a crime he served many years for, they "kicked him to the curb on his way out' of jail. Because his turning out to be innocent made them look bad for having convicted him anyway and then hiding the evidence so no one would know.

Deborah Peagler is even worse of - a private law firm spent countless pro bono hours to free her, but too late. Peagler's dying and has only weeks to live after they took her healthy years from her, letting her rot in jail so as not to expose the knowing prosecutorial misconduct that left her there when they had evidence that would reduce her First to Involuntary manslaughter for abuse victims.

Just ask the judge who handled her case, who accused Curt and Cooley of prosecutorial misconduct and covering up in so many words. That's just two.

As for Carter, his continuing to insist that Nuch can renege on his sworn promise to Chick because she didn't understand the difference between "pro bono" and deferred compensation - he kept waving the Times interview, where her words were selected by someone else, as 'proof' - he showed for all to see that he will use a semantic trick to knowingly deceive the courts and public, do ANYTHING to shore up the Nooch and real boss Cooley.

You want more?

Notice how Zine is no longer sticking like glue to Nuch? It was him and Nuch joined at the hip from a year before the election, to the Jackson events when they joined against AEG over that and billboards, Zine demanded the city get rid of Rocky's people and raid a consumer defense fund to do it, Zine insisted he has the right to hire the many private investigators so Nuch can loose then on his own colleagues and controller and above all, their ultimate wet dream, against the Mayor. Zine was in every photo op and followed him more slavishly than the Mayor does Beck.

Last time Zine was publicly against someone for Nuch was when Woocher presented his side against Carter, who was lying that Woocher had agreed to work for free. While other councilmembers advised settling so the fee wouldn't rise as nooch kept letigating, Zine glared at Woocher, "so your clock is still running!?!" like he was the scoundrel they're trying to paint him as - after urging him to fight for CHick with Nooch's full support.

WHERE IS ZINE NOW? Looking out for his own fat bald bod, I guess.
